ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.1. Event Reminder ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Event Reminder
The event reminder component of Remora is a very useful personal tool, if used
properly. You can enter anniversaries, important events, and even enter all
your diary events.
Events can be set with various period types and event types. Event's can have a
time and duration associated with them (depending on the type of event), and
you can set how many days before hand you want to be notified o the event.
Events can be shown once a day (including up and coming events) at bootup, and
also through the main program. The calendar view is probably the most useful
part of the program, with the events actually being shown (colour coded) on it,
and events can be added also.
To add events just choose "Add Event" from the event menu or click the button
on the toolbar.
Note: The date format is set using the Country Setup found in the OS/2 System
Folder.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2. Program Scheduler ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Program Scheduler
The program scheduler operates by actually running programs after a defined
number of bootup days in order to keep your system correctly checked and
configured.
Different types of programs such as Virus Scans, Defrags, Check Disks, etc. are
logical choices for the program scheduler since they need to be regularly run.
The program scheduler database is accessed from the "View Scheduled Programs"
option of the "Scheduler" menu.

o Program Insert/Edit Dialog
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Event Edit/Insert ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Event Edit/Add
This dialog is used to insert and edit events.
The date field is where you enter when the event occurs.
The warning days field is where you define how many days before hand you want
notification of the event. The event will be shown every day from the warning
day to the actual event day.
Two groups of radio buttons let you choose the period type and also the event
type. These both help to narrow down the period and type of the event so that
the event is setup and displayed correctly.
The time fields can be used to define the start and end time of the day the
event is happening. It can be either in either 12hr or 24hr format. These are
both optional.
The duration field is for events that could run over many days, such as
holidays. Just enter how many days the event will go for.
Note: Special Monthly, Recurring, Birthday, Wedding, and Death Memorial Events
cannot have a duration.
The event description field is where you put the description, or person
name(s), of what is happening. It can be up to 68 chars long.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Date Field Format ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Date Field Format
The Date field has many different formats depending on the type of event you
are entering.
Once Off Type Event
The date field is used as normal, with a DD-MM-YYYY(or MM-DD-YYYY depending
on your country setup) format. The year, if not entered, will set as the
next time the date comes around.
Weekly Event
The day and year fields are not needed. The month field is where you enter
the day the weekly event falls on. For example: 1=Sunday...7=Saturday.
Monthly Event
Only the day field is needed. The day field is where you enter the day of
the month the event falls on. For Example, 23 in the day field will make an
event that falls on the 23rd of each month.
Special Monthly Event
Only the day and month fields are needed. However, the day field is for the
week of the month the event falls on, and the month field corresponds to the
day of the month the event falls on, (1=Sunday...7=Saturday) . For example:
if the day is 2 and the month is 1, the event will occur on the first monday
of each month.
Yearly Event
The date field is used as a normal date, but the year field is not required.
The year field, however, can be used for Birthday, Wedding, and Death type
events to calculate the age, length of marriage, etc. For instance, if the
type is birthday and 1975 is entered in the year field the program will be
able to calculate the age of the person each time the event comes around.
Recurring Event
The day/month/year is set as the start date for the recurring event to begin
from.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2. Period Types ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

event of 14 days would be a Bi-weekly event.
Special ways of entering the date apply to Weekly and Special
monthly events. See Date Field Format for more details.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3. Event Types ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Event Types
The event period defines the event types that will be available, for instance
you cannot have a Once Off Birthday. By selecting a event type you are choosing
a more defined way of displaying the event.

the age, etc. and display it.

of each month.

(1=1st...5=5th Week).

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.12. Program Editor ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Program Insert/Editor
The "Program Edit" dialog provides a interface for adding programs that you
wish to be scheduled on your system.
Note: All fields except the "Parameters" field need input.
The "Description" field is where you can describe the action that you are
scheduling.
The "Filename" field needs the name of a valid program. The "parameters" field
is used for entering any arguements or parameters you want to be passed on to
the program.
The "Run Mode" options specifies what type of program it is and how it should
be run. Auto Config will automatically decide what type of program it is and
run it accordingly in the background, PM-Asynchronously and background will
require a Presentation Manager program and will run it either asynchronously or
in the background. The other two options are for OS/2 VIO type programs so you
can choose to run them either Full-Screen or Windowed. The best option is
Auto-Config but if the program is known to be a PM program then PM-Background
is the fastest option. However, DOS applications need Auto-Config and can only
be run full screen and in the background.
Note: Auto-Config will require the exact path and file name! (whereas PM-type
will search the path for the program)
The "cycle period" is after how many bootup days do you wish this program to be
run. Eg. a entry of "7" here will cause Remora to run the program once every 7
bootup days.
The "Enable Option to Postpone the Running of this Program" will cause Remora
to display a dialog before the program is run to ask the user if they wish to
run the program then. The user can then decide if the run can be run then, or
else the program will be postponed to the next bootup day (after which the user
can again decide if they wish to run it).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.13. Save Window Position ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
To save the main window position choose the 'Save Window Position' option from
the 'Options' menu.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.14. View Saved Events File Option ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This option will call the defined external text viewer/editor and display the
file that has been choosen to save deleted events to.
See Options for more details.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.15. Register Product ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
To register the product choose the "Register Product" menu item from the
"Options" menu.
You will need a registration name, and a registration code that is generated by
Inspire Software after you register.
If the information is entered correctly you will get notification that the
product is now registered.
Please enter all information exactly how it is printed on your registration
letter.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Installation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Installation
Automatic Installation
Automatic Installation of Workplace Objects is done through the INSTALL.CMD
script. Just run it from the command line and all objects will be created
correctly.
Manual Installation
Manual Installation of Inspire Remora is relatively easy. Just copy the .EXE
and .HLP files a directory, and create an icon by dragging the "Program Object"
template from the "Templates" window to a folder (or the desktop) and fill in
where to find the .EXE file in the filename field, and it should work fine. If
you get an error saying "help not found" or something to that effect, make sure
you have the working directory filled out with the proper path that Remora
resides in.
To enable event reminders at bootup, just drag a "Program Object" from the
Templates folder to the startup folder. (This folder is found in the OS/2
System folder) and fill in the filename details, and enter "/B" in the
parameters field.
For example:
Note: To disable the bootup feature just delete the Remora Icon from the
startup folder by dragging it to the shredder.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. Errors and Notes ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
*** Help panel Errors_Notes ***
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11.1. Problem Running External ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This file either couldn't be found, or there are not the system resources to
run this program.
Check the path of the program, or make sure the system has enough resources
(eg. Threads, etc.)
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11.2. Switch to DOS Format Mode ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Switch to DOS Format Mode
By changing to DOS format mode, you are asking Remora to save and read the data
files in a format that is compatible with EAZY for DOS v3.4x. This is good if
you use Dual Boot or Bootmanager since you will be informed of all events no
mater what OS you are in (OS/2, DOS, even Windows '95).
The down side of this is that the format that EAZY 3.4x is old and not as
advanced as the OS/2 format, which includes the program scheduler data in the
same file (plus other enhancments).
Therefore, you will loose the program scheduler functions plus other data that
the DOS version doesn't use. EAZY v3.50 will be able (when released) to read
the new format flawlessly, but there will still be data loss(non-critical) when
using the DOS version.
Note: You can export to EAZY 3.4x by using the Export Option on the file menu
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 12. Command Line Options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Command Line Options
The following command line options are valid:
Γûá /B -- Bootup (show events once a day)
Γûá /BF -- Emulate first boot of day
Γûá {filename} -- Load Remora Database.
