User Documentation
Overview
--------
PostToYou/2 is real-time note taker, event reminder and application
launching system. The user can easily stick a note onto their desktop,
and immediately enter text onto it. The text can be scrolled, high-
lighted and cut/paste to/from the clipboard. Each note supports features which
include: alarm; a repeating alarm to occur at intervals of minutes, hours or
days; size attributes; floating window ability; drag and drop color support;
font selection; save/print to file/printer; border style selection; application
launching; expiration date; vertical scroll bars.
The application supports configuration to specify: date formats; updating time
and date on title bars; sound; blinking; tile border widths; auto minimize;
default font; default border style, and more.
Installation
------------
No special procedures are required for installation. You
may execute the INSTALL program and follow the prompts to
a full installation, or simple copy the files to a directory
of your choice and create a program object icon; your choice.
All files need to be in the same directory.
User Instructions
-----------------
PostToYou/2 is designed to be a very easy to use program. When the program
starts, your are presented with the main panel. From the main panel, there
several objects/options, including: tiling styles, a listbox of existing notes,
the drawn note pad to create new notes and a list of buttons. They are
described as follows:
* Tiling Styles - You can choose if you like to have the notes tiled onto
your desktop by one of these methods; after selecting
which style you like, then press the Tile Notes push-
button at the bottom of the panel. On the Configuration
screen, there are 2 entry fields labeled Tile X Border
and Tile Y Border in which you can enter border widths
to leave clear around the edge of the screen.
When tiling notes with multiple different sizes, notes
are placed against each other based on the smallest sized
note on previous row.
* Notes in Use - This shows a list of the existing notes. To activate,
or givefocus to a existing note, whether its hidden or
not, just double click on the note title in the list
box and the note will come forward onto the screen. Once
a note is highlighted in the listbox, the DELETE
pushbutton will become active to allow deleting of the
note.
* Note Pad - This is used to create new notes by double clicking
on it. There is a maximum of 20 notes existing at the
same time.
MENU ITEMS
----------
* FILE
- Save: Save the current data in the notes. PostToYou/2 will
always save any data whenever the program or the
computer is shutdown. This feature can be used to force
a immediate file save.
- Exit: Exit application. Note: a save is preformed at this time.
* INFORMATION
- Register: Leads to the Registration screen. Here the user enters
their name, city state and the registration key sent to
them by Ecee Software.
Please note: text entered here is case sensitive.
- Product Leads to the credit screen which also has options to
Information: view: author contact information, shareware ordering
information.
* OPTIONS
- New Creates a new note and adds it to the 'Notes In Use'
list. There is a maximum of 20 notes existing at the
same time.
- Configure: Displays the configuration screen on which you can
select various customization aspects. (see below)
- Tile Notes: Causes the displayed notes to be aligned evenly together
using whichever tile style chosen. Configuration screen
allows entry of values to be used as border widths.
- Hide/Show: Hides or displays all notes; if notes are hidden,
individual notes can be displayed by double clicking on
a note in the 'Notes In Use' list.
- Delete: Deletes the note currently highlighted in the 'Notes In
Use' list.
- Delete All: Will delete all existing notes. A 'Are you Sure?' prompt
is given first.
- Note Details: Will jump to the currently highlighted notes 'Details'
screen. This feature has a ALT-D hotkey.
BUTTONS
-------
- NEW: Same as double clicking on the pad. Creates a new note
and adds it to the list. There is a maximum of 20 notes
existing at the same time.
- CONFIGURE: Displays the configuration screen on which you can
select various customizing aspects. (see below)
- TILE: Causes the displayed notes to be aligned evenly together
using whichever tile style chosen. Configuration screen
allows entry of values to be used as border widths.
- HIDE ALL: Hides all notes from view; use listbox to see individual
notes, or press same button which now has title of SHOW
NOTES to display all notes.
- DELETE: Deletes the current note that is highlighted in the list
of 'Notes In Use'. Enabled only when a note is
highlighted.
- EXIT: Exits the PostToYou/2 application.
Performance Tips
----------------
It is not necessary to exit PostToYou/2 before shutting down your
system, as the program will automatically saves any changes prior
to a shutdown or exiting the program.
Also, it would be a good idea to place this program into your
startup folder.
PostToYou/2 CONFIGURATION SCREEN
--------------------------------
This screen presents various options for customizing your display and
operation of PostToYou/2. There is the ability to turn on/off date and
time display on main panel title bar as well as note configuration screen
title bar. Also, wherever the date is shown on screen, you have to
option of selecting the display format; choices are:
FULL (ex. Monday, December 25, 1996)
Month Day Year (ex. 12/25/1996)
EUROPEAN. (ex. 25 December 1996)
Option for setting the time display from standard 12 hour to 24 hour
display is a global setting used whereever the time is displayed.
As well, this screen also lets you customize the way the alarms are to
occur and other features. They are described below:
* Minimize main panel on note creation
- this option will cause the main panel to be minimized when
ever a note is created; if you find yourself always minimizing
the main panel after you create a note, then this option
is handy
* Start with main panel minimized
- whenever PostToYou/2 is started, if this option is checked
then the main panel will immediately be minimized
* Display help tip in new notes
- this option is really for new users and would be turned
off as soon as the user is familiar with the program
* Default sound ON for note alarms
- sound will be audible when note alarms unless overridden with
individual note option to disable.
* Flahing note on alarm
- visible note blinking when alarms occurs
* Note remains hidden after alarming
- if note is hidden when note alarm goes off, the note will
pop up and display while alarming and then become hidden
again
* Suppress startup logo
- while PostToYou/2 is loading note data at startup time,
a Ecee Software logo is displayed; for registered users only,
this feature can be disabled
* Suppress note delete warning
- this is used to toggle a delete warning whenever a note is
being deleted via a double click of the notes system button.
* Tile X Border
- enter a numeric value which represent a pixel width to leave
vacant on the left and right sides of the screen when tiling
notes
* Tile Y Border
- enter a numeric value which represent a pixel width to leave
vacant on the top and bottom sides of the screen when tiling
notes
* Default Border Style
- allows selection of the border style which will be the default
for new notes;
Note: borders can be changes on individual notes using the
note configuration screen (see below).
Update: a new feature now allows border toggleing by double
clicking the right mouse button on the note.
* Default vertical scroll bar on note
- when this item is checked, any notes created thereafter will
contain a vertical scroll bar; the scroll bar can be turned
on/off on a individual note basis.
NOTE CONFIGURATION
------------------
To set a alarm or other features of a note, double click on the notes title
bar or selection Note Details from the pull down menu on the note or use the
ALT-D hotkey from the main panel once a note is hightlighted in this listbox.
This will bring up the note configuration screen.
You can enter a more appropriate title in the Note Title entry field.
To activate a alarm, check the ALARM ON checkbox and then set the alarm
date and time via the drop down lists.
If you desire to have the notes alarm repeat on a regular interval, then
enter the interval value and specify the minute, hour or day radio button.
The RESET button is used to initiate the display of the repeating alarm or
to reset it if the alarm date and or time is changed.
Repeating alarms will commence repeating after the alarms date and time have
expired.
To set the duration for the alarm to sound, enter a value representing
seconds in the entry field in the 'Alarm Setting' group.
NOTE: The ALARM ON check box must be checked in order for the repeating
alarm to function.
To have a note automatically expire and be deleted, enter a value for the
expiry date field.
To have a note associated to another application, enter that applications
title, full or partial match, as it would appear in the Task List. If you
have the application running, then use the 'Selection Associate File'
button to chose a item from the current task list entries. If 'Exact
Match' is check ON, then the task list title must match exactly. In some
cases, a task list will contain the name of the application as well as extra
information. IE the name of a file currently open. Now when that application
is started and PostToYou/2 is running, the note will alarm.
To have a alarming note start another application, enter path and filename
into the Launch File entry field. Use the 'Select Launch File' button to
browse for the application and to define parmeters as well as session
characteristics.
The notes size can also be selected from this screen. It is set by choosing
the appropriate radio button.
The floating feature as well can be specified from this screen. Click the
Floating Note checkbox for this feature. Floating notes are brought to the
surface every 3 seconds.
Border styles can be individually set for each note using the Border Styles
radio button group or can be changed directly on the note by double clicking
the right mouse button the text area of the note.
The buttons on this screen are equally simple. The DONE button will save the
changes to the note and exit the note details screen. The DELETE button
will delete the note and remove it from the listbox on the main panel. The
CANCEL will abort any changes to the note and exit the screen. The HIDE
button will save the changes, hide the note and exit the screen. A hidden
note can be displayed by double clicking on it in the listbox of the main
panel.
Sound On, Visual Flash and VScroll Bar are toggles to turn on/off these
features for the current note only.
ENTERING YOUR REGISTRATION KEY
------------------------------
The registration screen is accessed from the Information pull down menu
on the main panel, or from the pushbutton on the configuration screen. The
entry fields are case sensitive so be sure to use the same capitalization as
received in your registration receipt. Typically the first letter of each
field is capitalized. Enter the registration key that you received from Ecee
Software and click the REGISTER button. If everything is entered properly,
you will receive a ThankYou screen with a animated icon on it. From that
point on, the ABOUT screen will show your name as the registered user.
