INTRODUCTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~
PM Postnotes is a suite of utilities and applications designed to reduce
desk clutter, to free the mind for more imaginative pursuits rather than
force it to remember to pay bills, to arrange for that dental appointment,
and to run applications at a specific time every day.
In its Deluxe Edition, PM Postnotes contains:
Configurable "sticky" notes which can be attached to any file type,
or extension (such as *.TXT), and to which an alarm can be attached
so that the note will open automatically on a specified date and
time. Notes can be configured individually to word wrap, appear in
the system switch, or task, list, to name just two of the configuration
options.
A clock that can be configured to display the date and/or time in
either order, to chime on the hour, half hour, and/or quarter hours,
and to toll the hour.
A popup, perpetual calendar that can be used for quick reference or
by various PM Postnotes utilities to date an entry.
A calculator with a running calculation tape that can be saved and
recalled at a later date and/or printed.
An Address Book to track addresses and telephone numbers for family
members, friends, or business associates. Different addresses can
be contained in separate directories for maximum organization.
An envelope printer that you design so that the three available
printable fields are positioned exactly where they should be.
A telephone dialer that works in conjunction with the Address Book and
which will time the duration of calls and log these calls to a file.
A To Do application to list and monitor tasks that require completion.
Because it is recognized that some tasks occur repeatedly, these can
be configured to repeat perpetually by date, calendar days, or weekdays.
A Planner to alot time throughout the day for meetings or events, and to
schedule applications. These can also be set to repeat themselves
perpetually, particularly handy for daily system backups, weekly
meetings, or monthly appointments.
A notification utility that works hand-in-hand with the other PM
Postnotes applications and utilities.
A Clipboard storage / extension utility.
WPS integration, such as drag-and-drop and object launching.
A flexible registration scheme intended to provide users with the option
of registering what they intend to use.
PM Postnotes is released as shareware and sells for $20.00, $25.00, or
$30.00 US, depending upon the registration option selected. There are
INSTALLATION
~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is important that 'install.exe' be used to install PM Postnotes.
Not only will the utility copy the necessary files to a desired
location, BUT IT WILL ALSO ENSURE THAT DATE FILES ARE ASSOCIATED
WITH IT SO THAT THESE CAN BE OPENED AS POSTNOTES AND NOT AS REGULAR
TEXT FILES.
Unzip the files in the archive to a separate directory and run the
install.exe utility. You will be asked to supply a destination
directory. No restrictions are placed upon the destination of the
installation, but note that the files in version 2.70+ are incompatible
with versions equal to, or earlier than, 2.60a.
The installation utility will copy the necessary files to the desired
destination and, if this destination does not contain either pmpnall.ini
(from v.2.60a) or pnote.ini (2.70+), will ask if an old version exists.
Answer YES to have the installation utility copy your registration
information to new location.
If PM Postnotes' Desktop folder or the program object used to open
notes are accidentally deleted, use the Install utility to recreate
them. Simply change to your installation directory, run 'install',
click 'Install', set the installation directory to your current
installation directory, and answer YES when asked to skip the
programs and to continue with the installation.
MIGRATING FROM EARLIER VERSIONS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Because 2.70 is a complete rebuild of 2.60a, and because the source
code of 2.60a was lost, migration from a version earlier than 2.70
is not possible. Scheduled items will have to be recreated, either
in the To Do or Planner applications. Notes, also, will have to be
saved as standard ascii or text files (2.70 no longer uses
proprietary files for notes).
If you have installed a version later than 2.70 in a separate directory
and wish use the files associated with the earlier version (but not
earlier than 2.70), simply copy the following files from the old
installation directory to the new one (before starting PM Postnotes):
*.DTA
*.IDX
*.AI*
*.INI
Unless specifically mentioned below, migration from one version to
the latest is not necessary.
Applications in need of migration: <none>
All bug reports are to be directed to my e-mail address:
Please use the supplied 'problem.txt' template when reporting bugs.
KNOWN PROBLEMS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was found that Styler/2 and my other program, Electronic Teller, could
not get along amicably, and the same sort of behaviour was detected with
PM Postnotes, although not nearly as severely. I worked long and hard to
try to resolve the conflicts between Styler/2 and Electronic Teller, but
gained only marginal success. As a result, I feel that I have done all
that I'm prepared to do to support a third-party WPS enhancer.
WHERE TO TURN FOR HELP
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Should have difficulty working with PM Postnotes, extensive on-line
help is available. Most, if not all, windows and dialogs come equipped
with context-sensitive help, and this can be accessed by pressing the
F1 key. A 'Help' button will generally display help for the task being
performed or for the concept/usage behind the window for which help was
invoked.
Should a satisfactory answer not exist in the help file, I can be reached
via e-mail. Full contact information is available below.
