Music Frame for Java
Version 0.01 beta
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to Music Frame for Java!
What the hell is MusicFrame?
If you're really interested in music and/or you've a big collection of CD, MC, LP,
Video etc. then this software is for YOU!
MusicFrame for Java v 0.01 ist the first public beta of my OS/2 application
MusicFrame/2 remastered to the Java plattform. It's a xBase type database to store
data with musical relation. In fact it's a programm that can manage your cd, mc,
lp or whatsever collection. It can show crossreferences between bands as the main goal.
If you once have your database up to date you can pre calculate a planed recording to
cd or mc etc. Printing layouts isn't available yet, but I hope I can implement it soon.
The song titles and times on your cd's can be read direct from your cd-rom drive by
pressing a button. MusicFrame gives you some information 'bout your collection and
database. MusicFrame are able to create a database for Albatros CD-Player on OS/2.
This version includes a little demo database. If you want the full database, you'll have
to register your copy.
What requirements are there?
You must have installed a Java JRE 1.1.7 or higher and Swing 1.0.3. Your Operating
System of choice must be capable to run Java applications. The first beta
(this version) will be only released to the OS/2 community.
The execution on other plattforms is supported, but MusicFrame for Java can't access
the CD-rom drive on plattforms other than OS/2 this time. This is because the lack of
an multimedia-dll. I hope I can supply the linux support in the next version.
How can I install or uninstall Music Frame for Java?
Installation is simple, just unzip all files in the archive to a directory.
OS/2:
OS/2 users are supported with a file that creates Objects on your WPS. To do this, simply execute
"wps.cmd" from your MusicFrame directory.
If you want create a program object for MusicFrame on OS/2 without using any cmd file, create
a program object manually and supply it by this information:
Path and filename: <Your Java Path>\javapm.exe
Parameters : -classpath <Path to classes.zip>;<Path to swing.jar>;<Path to mframe.jar> MusicFrame
Working directory: <Musicframe directory>
Example
Path and filename: D:\JAVA11\bin\javapm.exe
Parameters : -classpath D:\JAVA11\lib\classes.zip;D:\JAVA11\SWING\swing.jar;E:\MFRAMEJ\mframe.jar MusicFrame
Working drectory : E:\MFRAMEJ
Windows:
Create links manually on your Desktop with mframe.bat and jview.bat.
MusicFrame makes no changes to your configuration. So you have to delete all files in
your MusicFrame directory if you wish to discontinue using.

What should I do with the windows in the program itself?
Here is an examples to give in a complete CD. This example shows the most required windows. I
recomend that you open the MusicFrame program now, to see what I make.
After MusicFrame has finished the loading process klick File/Open Database. This loads the record
database. The record list is shown in the main window.
Klick on File/List of Labels. The Window opened shows the current available Record labels. The
numbers are the labels label numbers. We'll use this numbers later. After you've take a look on
the list, close the list via the system menu (doubleclick the icon in the left upper corner).
Klick on File/List of Labels again. The same list is showing. Then Klick on File/List of instruments
The list shown will show you the current available instruments played by musicians. Now if the
list of instruments isn't selected, select it by klick on its titlebar. Press the End key on your
keyboard. The end of the list is selected. Press Home on your keyboard will select the first item.
Now press letter 'h' on your keyboard. The first item beginning with the letter 'h' is selected.
In this way all lists in the whole program are working.
Close both windows by doubbleclicking on their system menu.
MusicFrame for Java work with 2 different main lists. The first we see is the record list. The
other is the musician list. Klick on File/Change list to view it now. You can toggle between the
two lists by clicking File/Change list.
Now we want to give in some data.
Our example cd is: Going for the one - Yes, from 1977.
In the record list we' ve seen that this record isn't available in the database. In the musician
list we see that some of the musicians are in the database, while other don't. Klick Edit/New to
see the musician input dialog. The most left tab in the notebook should read Musicians.
If this is not the case close the dialog with the system menu and toggle the main list. Then reopen
the Edit dialog with Edit/New.
Now we wish to enter a new musician. Fill out the fields.
I type: first name: Jon last name: Anderson
I leave the pseudonym field blank, because we have a real name.
I select those instruments: vocals, percussion
If you want to select more than one instrument in the list you've to press the ctrl key on your
keyboard while selecting in the list.
After selection verify the string labeled Instruments.
If you're sure the information is right, klick the button in the lower right corner to save the data
to disk.
In this way proceed for all musicians, you wish to give in.
I proceed this way to give in all musician on the CD not available in the database.
Now we want to give in the cd itself. Toggle the main list to the record list, then klick on
Edit/New. In the dialog the most left tab in the notebook should read Record.
If this is not the case close the dialog, toggle the main list and klick on Edit/New again.
Select the tab Record, if it's not selected.
Fill out the fields and/or select the right data.
I type: Interpret: Yes
Title: Going For The One

Rec.Proc AAD If the media is a CD, I recomend AAD, ADD, or DDD
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't know what AAD,ADD,DDD is, please read this:
These shortcuts are wide accepted in Europe and printed on most
available europian CD's. It classifies the record procedure as follows
AAD analog recording, analog mixing/editing, digital mastering
ADD analog recording, digital mixing/editing, digital mastering
DDD digital recording, digital mixing/editing, digital mastering
If there are no such shortcuts on the inlay or the CD itself, look for
a text like CDD mastering by <name>. If such a text is available then
the record procedure is ADD.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
If all information is right, then klick the save button, to save this page to disk.
Go to the Identity page.
Every CD has a hidden cdhex number on disk. Insert the CD in question in your cd-rom drive then
klick on the CD button to read it direct from the media. If reading was successful the number is
shown in the box labeled CD Hex.
Look for the barcode on the CDs inlay or on the CD itself. The barcode should look like
0 111111 111111 6 12-Numbers (counting only the 2 groups in the middle)
'-' are a valid character here
or
0 11111 11111 6 10-Numbers
Select the type of barcode and type it in the fields.
The first number is the country code. If your barcode don't have it, then type
0 (international). The last number is a check number. If your barcode don't have it type 0.
If you can't find a barcode on a CD leave all fields blank.
Select the Label field. If you've typed a valid barcode MusicFrame fill out this field with
the right label for you. Some labels are family labels including sub labels. Please edit the
label that it contains only one label in this case.
Select the Order-No. field. If you've typed a valid barcode MusicFrame fill out this field with
the right Order-No for you.
If you typed label and Order-No but leave the barcode fields blank, then select one of the barcode
fields again. In this case MusicFrame generates a valid barcode for you.
I type this informatiom:
Type : 12-Numbers
Barcode : 0 7567-8 1510-2 6
Label : Atlantic
Order-Nr: 81510-2
When ready klick on save to save this page.
Go to the Tracks page.
The information here are related to Songs on a media.
If you've read the CD successfully on the previous page, then the track times are already inserted
in the times list. Otherwise you must type it in here. Write a song title in the title field then
write the time in the time field and klick on the plus button.
Proceed in this way for all songs included on your media.
In the Program field you can store a program for a cd player. Just type the track numbers seperated
by spaces like this '7 4 2 11 17'.
When ready klick on save to save this page.
Go to the Links page.
On this page you can link musicians with the media. First klick one of the buttons A-H I-P Q-Z.
If you do so, all available musicians will be loaded into the Musician list, shown on this page.
Moving the selected musician from the list to the list on the right will create the link.
You can separate main musicians from studio musicians by setting a Separator with the separator
button.
If you want change the order, select a musician and remove him to the Musicians list. An
alternative way is to cut him from the list using the del key on your keyboard and re-insert him
on another location by pressing the insert key.
I link here the previous created Jon Anderson, and the rest from Yes.
When you're ready please klick the save button to save this page on disk.
Close the New Dialog by double clicking the system menue.
Now we have createted the first record.
Now we want to see a crossreference.
Toggle the main list to the record list. Our new CD now should be in this list.
Doubble Click this CD in the list. The dialog opened shows the crossreference of the CD.
Please double click one of the musicians in the new dialog.
Please double click one of the records in the new dialog.
Please double click one of the musicians in the new dialog.
Please double click one of the records in the new dialog.
Please double click one of the musicians in the new dialog.
What is J-View?
JView is not part of MusicFrame, but it's a plus Freeware GIF/JPG Viewer. For help on this
program please load a GIF file and take a look what it does. The menu is available in german only,
but there are only 4 choices.
'Verlassen' means Quit, 'Oeffnen' means Open, 'Vollbild' means Fullscreen, 'Fenster anpassen' means
Resize Window.
Is there a way to get a free copy of MusicFrame?
Yes, you can get a free copy by giving me a solution on some OS/2 related questions.
1. The MMOS/2 CD-Player stores CDHex numbers in its cdplayer.ini file in bootdrive:\mmos2.
A CD with CD-Hex: 01 98 1C 0D 48 C8 76 00
is stored as : 43123937.47
If you know how to create and interpret this numbers you'll get a free copy.
Please verify that with an ini editor on cdp.ini!
2. The Creative Labs CDPlayer on OS/2 CTCD.EXE stores it's CDHex numbers in the file ctcd.ini.
A CD with CD-Hex: 01 98 1C 0D 48 C8 76 00
is stored as : 00 00 1c 98 00 6c f3 68
If you know how to create and interpret this numbers you'll get a free copy.
Please verify that with an ini editor on ctcd.ini!
3. I'm searching for a way to read label volumes of an audio-cd on OS/2.
If you know how to read the labels you'll get a free copy.
