ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Introduction ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
InfoBank Setup Version 2.0
InfoBank is a generic information retrieval system. It is
meant to be used to structure and organize all the data
files that is normally laying scattered around the hard
disk. By placing the datafiles into sections and
subsections, which can easily be defined, you can quickly
build a database that suits your particular personal needs.
It can handle textfiles, OS/2 .INF files and Windows .HLP
files. With InfoBank one gets ONE tool with which one can
organize and retrieve all these types of data files.
InfoBank Setup is used to define the structure of the
database, its sections and subsections.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Getting started ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The program optionally takes one parameter specifying the
name of the INI-file to work on. If the file doesn't exist
a new empty one will be created. This way, several
INI-files with differently defined structures can be
created (The same goes for 'InfoBank.EXE'; It loads the
INI-file specified or defaults to 'InfoBank.INI' if none is
specified.)
If no parameter is given the program by default looks for
'InfoBank.INI' in its own directory.
A sample 'InfoBank.INI'-file is included as an example of a
simple database definition.
You first define a structure that suits your particular
need. When finished you click on 'Build' to physically
create the directories defined in your structure. You then
copy your information files into the directories that have
been created and that represents the different sections.
REMEMBER to back up your INI files after you are finished
defining them as they hold all information about your
definitions.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. The InfoBank Setup Main Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This is the InfoBank Setup Main Dialog Box.
To get help on the various parts of the dialog box just double-click on them.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. How to register ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
To continue to use InfoBank beyond the evaluation period of one
month, you MUST register it.
If InfoBank is to be used within a commercial environment it must be
registered as a corporate version and registerered under the name of
the company.
You must also give the name of the person who will be administrating
the program.
Update service
Once registered you are entitled to free updates of InfoBank. When a new
version is available (you will have to look for yourself on the BBS's
etc.) just use the order form in the Online-help for InfoBank and mark it
'Upgrade' and I will send you a registered copy of the newest version of
InfoBank. The charge for shipping & handling is 5 DM which should be
changed into Danish currency and included in the letter.
I will check that you are registered so please remember to fill in your
correct name and address in the order form.
Paying by cheque
In Denmark there is a bank fee to cash foreign cheques, so if you pay by
cheque from a bank outside Denmark you will have to add the bank fee
(10DM) to the total amount.
If you use Eurocheque you MUST calculate the amount
into Danish currency. You will then save 10DM in bank fee.

Here the drive and base directory is specified. Several different data
collections can be kept under the same base directory by using unique names for
the main section. E.g. by using 'InfoBank' as the name of the base directory
and running InfoBank Setup from different directories different InfoBank.INI
files are created; E.g. let one InfoBank definition have 'Economics' and
another 'Programming' as their main section names. When InfoBank.EXE is started
it will only read the ini-file which is situated in its own directory and
thereby only 'see' the sections which are defined within that particular
INI-file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
These buttons are used to physically on the hard disk create or remove the
directory structure which has been defined.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
By checking this option a password will be asked for each time Setup is
started. It also activates password checking for certain functions within
InfoBank (right now actually only the delete function). The default password is
'InfoBank'. Surprise, surprise...!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
These entry fields shows the physical directory name, and the description which
is shown in the section dialog box when running InfoBank. If no description is
specified, the directory name for the section is used. N.B. Remember that the
FAT file system only allows 8 character long directory names whereas the
description field allows 18 characters to be used at present. Hint: By using
'.' (dot) as physical directory name for the main section all subsections will
be placed directly under the directory specified as base directory.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Here up to 15 subsections can be defined for each section. Double-clicking on a
name specified here makes that section current. The is used to navigate up and
down the structure.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The sections are shown, in the section dialog box when running InfoBank, in the
order in which they appear in the subsections box. With these buttons one can
move the names up and down.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
o To add a new subsection to the current section click on 'Add Section' and
type in name and optionally a description.
o To remove the selected subsection from the current section click on 'Remove
Section'.
- NB: Be aware that all subsections related to that particular section also
will be removed.
