  1.                      EXCAL, THE WORKPLACE CALENDAR, VERSION 3.0m

  3.           If you are upgrading from ExCal 2.x, please read the section
  4.           below titled "UPGRADING TO NEW VERSIONS OF EXCAL".

  6. INSTALLING EXCAL ON YOUR SYSTEM FOR THE FIRST TIME:
  7.  
  8.   Start the installation program, EXCINST.EXE, then select "Install". 
  9.  
  10. INSTALLING EXCAL ON YOUR SYSTEM FOR THE FIRST TIME *WITHOUT PROMPTING*:
  11.  
  12.    EXCINST path helpPath          Where 'path' is where EXCAL.DLL
  13.                                   should be copied, 'helpPath' is where
  14.                                   EXCAL.HLP should be copied.
  15.  
  16.                                   If 'path' = /USELIBPATH, EXCAL.DLL is
  17.                                   copied to your \OS2\DLL directory and
  18.                                   registered without an explicit path (ie,
  19.                                   LIBPATH is used to find EXCAL.DLL).
  20.  
  21.    A progress dialog is displayed during installation.
  22.  
  23. ALSO INCLUDE IN THIS PACKAGE:
  24.  
  25.   EXCAL.CMD is the REXX equivalent of the installation utility 
  26.   EXCINST.EXE.  It shows how the REXX API can be used to create and 
  27.   modify ExCal objects.  
  28.  
  29.   Online help is available from any of the ExCal objects (calendar, event,
  30.   time, place).

  32. UPGRADING TO NEW VERSIONS OF EXCAL:
  33.  
  34.   Start the installation program, EXCINST.EXE, specify the directory
  35.   which contains the prior version of EXCAL.DLL, then select
  36.   "Reinstall".  The DLL will be replaced, but will not take effect until
  37.   the next reboot.

  39. After you have replaced EXCAL.DLL, some unneeded alarm files from the 
  40. prior version must be deleted.  You can:
  41.  
  42. -- Run the Uninstall of EXCINST to delete the unneeded files of prior 
  43.    versions and then re-run the Install of EXCINST to finish.
  44.  
  45. -- Or, replace the EXCAL.DLL as outlined above and follow the steps 
  46.    below to remove the unneeded files.
  47.  
  48.    1. Open an OS/2 Command window.
  49.    2. Change to your desktop directory, e.g.: 
  50.           CD C:\DESKTOP
  51.    3. Unhide the EXCAL*.ALM file(s):
  52.           ATTRIB EXCAL*.ALM -h
  53.    4. Delete the EXCAL*.ALM file(s):
  54.           DEL EXCAL*.ALM
  55.    5. Go to the Desktop and select "Refresh now".
  56.    6. Go to the Calendar Glance view and select "Refresh now" from the
  57.       View menubar pulldown.
  58.  
  59.    You may want to shutdown and reboot after completing these steps to 
  60.    be certain the updates made by the Calendar during "Refresh now" are
  61.    saved to disk.
  62.  
  63. NOTE 1: If you are upgrading from ExCal 2.x and do not run the Uninstall
  64.         of EXCINST or don't follow the cleanup steps above, you're
  65.         alarms will not work.  The hidden EXCAL*.ALM files(s) of the
  66.         prior versions must be deleted for ExCal 3.0 alarms to work
  67.         properly.  If you choose to run Uninstall, please verify the
  68.         EXCAL*.ALM files were deleted by EXCINST before continuing.

  70. NOTE 2: If you are upgrading from a version before 2.1d, you should run
  71.         EXCINST to create new objects (address book, templates).  You
  72.         can run EXCINST's Reinstall choice multiple times without
  73.         any loss of data.

  75. OS/2 WARP 3.0 USERS:

  77. The Details view of the Calendar shows the columns below:

  79.   Icon   Title   Object Class   Summary   Time and Place    Priority
  80.  
  81. The "Time and Place" column is a short version of the "Summary" column.
  82. You can hide the former using the third "View" page of the Calendar's
  83. Settings (this is done for you on 2.x versions of OS/2 by EXCINST.EXE).

  85. Note: The "Object Class" column cannot be removed; this may be a Warp
  86.       bug.
