ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Introduction ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
PMSANE
PMSANE is a Graphical User Interface for the OS/2 port of SANE (Scanner Access
Now Easy) from LINUX.
PMSANE supports the subset of SANE functions which apply to the use of scanner
devices. This version contains support for HP, Microtek and Mustek scanners.
SANE supports a wide range of SCSI scanners. Check the SANE Web site for the
full list of supported devices. If you can make SANE work with your scanner,
then PMSANE may be able to support it.
If SANE works with your scanner but PMSANE does not, please contact the author
for support.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Installation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Installation
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Prerequisite software ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Prerequisite software
(PMSANxxx.ZIP contains all of these except OS/2 SCSI support).
OS/2 SCSI Support - use Selective Install to install the driver for your
adapter
EMX Runtime DLLs
ASPI Router
SANE for OS/2
NETPBMA (PNM to TIFF and PPM to BMP conversion files only)
VisproREXX Runtime DLLs
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2. Installation steps ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Installation steps
Step 1 - Install your SCSI adapter and scanner according to the
manufacturer's instructions.
Step 2 - Install OS/2 SCSI Support if not already installed (using
Selective Install) and re-apply fixpacks if necessary.
Step 3 - UNZIP PMSANxxx.ZIP into a temporary directory.
Step 4 - Start INSTALL.EXE, enter the required information and click on
the Install button.
- The INSTALL program will then do the following:
-- Install EMX Runtime if not already installed.
-- Install ASPI Router if not already installed.
-- Unpack all required files into the target directory.
-- Install the online documentation for your chosen language.
-- If a reboot is not required, the Install program will:
- Run 'find-scanner.exe' to identify the SCSI address of
your scanner.
- Update the relevant ".conf" file with the SCSI details
('b0t?l0').
-- If a reboot IS required, the ".conf" file will be automatically
updated the first time you start PMSANE.
-- Create desktop objects for PMSANE.
-- If required, you will be prompted to REBOOT to activate SCSI,
ASPI and the ASPI Router.
Step 5 - REBOOT if prompted by the INSTALL program (ensure the scanner is
switched on)
Step 6 - Start PMSANE (If a reboot was not needed, the Installation
program will automatically start PMSANE for you.
- Each time PMSANE starts, it runs 'scanimage -L' to verify that SANE
can talk to the scanner. If the scanner is not found by scanimage,
PMSANE will
-- Run 'find-scanner.exe' to identify the SCSI address of your
scanner.
-- Update the relevant ".conf" file with the SCSI details
('b0t?l0').
-- Run 'scanimage -L' again to verify that SANE can now talk to
the scanner.
Step 8 - Customize PMSANE OPTIONS.
- Select OPTIONS from the menu and enter the required information.
Step 9 - PMSANE is now ready to use.
