  4. Welcome to the installation and deinstallation utility for Galleria and 
  5. Galleria/CM. 
  6.  
  7. This utility is used to install (or deinstall) these products on your OS/2 
  8. system. You will be prompted for installation options (such as destination 
  9. directory) prior to any changes being made to your system. All changes will be 
  10. logged so you can see what this utility has done or correct errors if the 
  11. installation fails. 
  12.  
  13. The deinstall option will reverse all changes to your system should you wish to 
  14. remove the software from your system. 
  15.  
  16. Press Install to prompt for installation options. 
  17.  
  18. Press Deinstall to prompt for deinstallation options. 
  19.  
  20. Press Exit to terminate. 
  21.  
  22. NOTE: The Galleria and Galleria/CM executables are packaged using Info-ZIP's 
  23. compression utility. The installation program uses UnZip to process compressed 
  24. files from the install directory or diskette. Info-ZIP's software (Zip, UnZip 
  25. and related utilities) is free and can be obtained as source code or 
  26. executables from various anonymous-ftp sites on Internet, including 
  27. ftp.uu.net:/pub/archiving/zip/*.

  30. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Install options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  32. The Install options dialog is displayed to enable you to change options for the 
  33. install. 
  34.  
  35. The Source directory must be set to the location of the packed files and 
  36. utilities. Normally this will be the same as that containing the install 
  37. utility. 
  38.  
  39. The destination Directories are the directories to be used to contain the 
  40. unpacked executables and libraries. You may choose a different directory for 
  41. the libraries (DLLs) if you wish. These directories will be created if they do 
  42. not already exist. 
  43.  
  44. If the software has already been installed on a file server you can elect not 
  45. to have the executables and libraries installed on your machine. The 
  46. Destination directories will therefore be the file server directories. 
  47.  
  48. The install utility can modify the LIBPATH statement in CONFIG.SYS on your boot 
  49. drive to point to the destination directory containing the libraries (above). 
  50. If an entry for this directory already exists in the LIBPATH statement, no 
  51. changes will be made.

  53. You can also have the install utility create a folder and icons for the 
  54. software on the OS/2 desktop. This will permit you to start the applications or 
  55. view documentation simply by double-clicking on the respective icons. 
  56. Subsequently, you may wish to copy or move the icons to the desktop or a folder 
  57. of your choice.

  59. It is recommended that you leave all options at their default values for the 
  60. first time you install the software or if you experience any problems with the 
  61. install.

  63. Press Proceed to start the install process with the above options. 
  64.  
  65. Press Defaults to reset all options to their default values.

  67. Press Cancel to return to the previous level.

  70. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Install activity ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  72. The Install activity window allows you to monitor the install process. A log of 
  73. every action taken is displayed together with an eventual return code. This 
  74. will be zero for a successful install. 
  75.  
  76. When the installation is complete (or if it fails for any reason) you should 
  77. review the log contents and return code. 
  78.  
  79. Press Save log to write the log to the source disk/directory as INSTALL.LOG.

  94. Galleria, as a graphics-intensive application, demands a high level of support 
  95. from display drivers. It is recommended that you ensure that you have the 
  96. latest version of display driver installed for your display adapter type prior 
  97. to installation. 
  98.  
  99. With most errors (including exceptions, incorrect colors or scrolling 
  100. problems), this is normally an indication that the display driver currently 
  101. installed does not fully support the default direct paint mode used by 
  102. Galleria. These problems may disappear if you change the driver settings to use 
  103. a different color depth. If not, you should be able to bypass the problem by 
  104. enabling the Use fallback display mode for screen writes option in the Galleria 
  105. Preferences dialog. For a permanent fix, contact the vendor of your display 
  106. adapter for an updated driver.

  109. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Deinstall options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  111. The Deinstall options dialog is displayed to enable you to change options for 
  112. the deinstall. 
  113.  
  114. The destination Directories are the directories used for a prior install to 
  115. contain the unpacked executables and libraries. All installed files will be 
  116. deleted from these directories (unless you disable this). These directories 
  117. will be removed if they are empty after the files are deleted. 
  118.  
  119. If you did not copy files during installation (i.e. you used a file server copy 
  120. of the software instead) you should disable the Delete files option.

  122. The deinstall utility can restore the LIBPATH statement in CONFIG.SYS on your 
  123. boot drive to remove the entry for the directory containing the libraries 
  124. (above). If an entry for this directory does not exist in the LIBPATH 
  125. statement, no changes will be made.

  127. The deinstall process can also remove the folder (and all contents) from the 
  128. OS/2 desktop created during the install.

  130. Press Proceed to start the deinstall process with the above options.

  137. The Deinstall activity window allows you to monitor the deinstall process. A

  151. When the install process is complete, a file called INSTALL.INI will be written 
  152. to the same directory as the INSTALL.EXE utility. This INI file contains the 
  153. settings used for the installation (but not for the Galleria or Galleria/CM 
  154. applications themselves).

  156. If you wish to replicate installation with the same options on a number of 
  157. machines, you can use a copy of this INI file to preset options for the 
  158. install. First run the installation once on a representative machine, then copy 
  159. the INSTALL.INI file produced to the distribution floppy or directory. Repeat 
  160. the install process for each machine using these preset options.

  162. If desired, you can edit INSTALL.INI using a third-party utility (such as 
  163. IniMaint) with the desired options. The key names and values should be obvious. 
  164. A setting of "1" indicates that an option is set, "0" indicates that it is not 
  165. set. Make sure you retain the trailing null for all values.
