  82. 3.      Installation
  83.  
  84.         These drivers can only be used under OS/2 WARP Version 3 and 4.
  85.  
  86.         To guarantee a successful installation, be sure to have the
  87.         original VGA driver installed and active.
  88.  
  89. 3.1     Restoring the original VGA driver
  90.  
  91.         Use the restore option at system boot time (Alt+F1) and reset
  92.         the primary display to VGA. Consult your OS/2 manual
  93.         for further information.
  94.  
  95.         You have to reboot the system for the change to take effect.
  96.  
  97. 3.2     Installation of the ELSA drivers version 01.20:
  98.  
  99.         Insert your ELSA CD into your drive, open the CD-ROM
  100.         drive object on your desktop, change to the OS/2
  101.         directory appropriate for your graphics card
  102.         (i.e., \WINNER\2000AVI\OS2) and start SETUP.EXE.
  103.         The contents of this file should appear on the
  104.         "Introduction" page.
  105.  
  106. 3.3     Using the setup program
  107.  
  108.         On the "Adapter Info" page you may view information about your
  109.         graphics adapter. Use the "Help" function for detailed
  110.         explanations of the displayed items.
  111.  
  112.         You will have to specify your monitor and the desired graphics
  113.         resolution on the "Resolution" page.
  114.         Please be sure that the information concerning your monitor is
  115.         correct and complete (particularly the scan rates) in order to
  116.         avoid damaging your monitor.
  117.         After you have selected resolution and monitor you have to
  118.         set these parameters by pressing the "Set" button.
  119.  
  120.         If the standard resolutions are not sufficient for your
  121.         purposes or if your monitor is not listed in the monitor
  122.         database, press the "Add" button.
  123.         You will then be able to define custom resolutions and
  124.         monitor-parameters.
  125.  
  126.         Use the "Installation" page to select the files to transfer to
  127.         your hard disk and to start the installation process. Use the
  128.         "Help" button in order to get further information. After
  129.         completion of the installation you have to shut down and reboot
  130.         your system. OS/2 WARP will start with the selected resolution.
  131.         If you have specified the "ELSA Resolution Manager" in the
  132.         installation procedure, you can use it for changing the
  133.         selected resolution.

  139. 4.1     This driver supports the following graphics boards:

  177. 4.3     WIN-OS/2 Configuration:

  179.         To change the standard configuration, use the Windows program
  180.         WINman which is automatically started after first calling
  181.         WINOS2.  An online help is available.
  182.  
  183.         By default, the ELSA Windows Driver WINNER08.DRV is installed
  184.         with a resolution of 640x480x256.
  185.  
  186.         The WINNERxx.drv files (in WINDOWS) are copied to the WINOS/2
  187.         directory during the installation. You don't have to copy and
  188.         expand this driver from the GUI-disk.

  295. 6.      Caveats / Known Problems
  296.  
  297. 6.1     WINOS2
  298.  
  299.         With some monitors, you can't use a refresh rate different
  300.         from that of the WPS. In this case you will see a black screen
  301.         (or something else) in the WINOS2 Session.
  302.  
  303.         ELSA graphics WINOS2 and Seamless Driver:
  304.         Use only the WINNERxx.DRV OS/2-Driver Disk. These files are
  305.         copied by the installation utility.
  306.  
  307. 6.2     Lotus 1-2-3 f. OS/2 Vers. 2.0
  308.         Lotus 1-2-3 only runs in 8 BPP modes.
  309.  
  310. 6.3     Software and Color Cursor
  311.  
  312.         For the following configuration no software cursor is
  313.         available:
  314.  
  315.         2 MB Video RAM:
  316.            1600 x 1280 x 8 BPP
  317.         Work around:
  318.            Use the resolution 1600 x 1200 x 8 BPP
  319.  
  320.         4 MB Video RAM:
  321.            1600 x 1280 x 16 BPP
  322.         Work around:
  323.            Use the resolution 1600 x 1200 x 16 BPP
  324.  
  325.         8 MB Video RAM:
  326.            1600 x 1280 x 32 BPP
  327.         Work around:
  328.            Use the resolution 1600 x 1200 x 32 BPP
  329.  
  330. 6.4     DIPLomat
  331.  
  332.         The gray-scaling acceleration and filter functionality
  333.         are only supported under the following color depths:
  334.           - 8 BPP
  335.           - 16 BPP
  336.  
  337.         When switching to any other color depth, a warning message
  338.         is displayed telling you that these functions are not
  339.         supported.
  340.         Other aspects of the driver functionality are not affected.
  341.  
  342.         IBM VisualInfo Viewer for OS/2:
  343.         The viewer uses its own drawing routines if none of the above
  344.         color depths are active. In this case however, you cannot use
  345.         the benefits of the DIPLomat software.
  346.  
  347.         The DIPLomat software's filter and acceleration functionality
  348.         is only used when displaying monochrome images (1 bit/pixel),
  349.         also called bilevel images. Color and grayscale images are
  350.         displayed by the viewer itself.
  351.         The bilevel file formats supported by the viewer are e.g.:
  352.            - TIFF G4                (.TIF)
  353.            - TIFF G3                   "
  354.            - TIFF uncompressed         "
  355.            - PCX bilevel            (.PCX)
  356.            - OS/2 bitmap bilevel    (.BMP)
  357.  
  358.         Functionality and operation of the DIPman program are
  359.         explained in the online help.
  360.  
  361. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  362.  
  363. 7.      EnDIVE
  364.  
  365.         You can use the "ELSA EnDIVE Filter" tool for setting and
  366.         viewing various parameters of EnDIVE.
  367.  
  368.  
  369.         The "Video Memory" display informs you about your usage of the
  370.         free offscreen memory.
  371.  
  372.         For testing purposes or when using programs with faulty EnDIVE
  373.         support you can switch off EnDIVE entirely (this has to be
  374.         done before starting such programs) and control the use of X
  375.         and Y filters.
  376.  
  377.         The settings will be stored so that they are activ atfer program
  378.         termination even after a system reboot.
  379.  
  380. 7.1     X and Y filtering
  381.  
  382.         These filters improve image quality for scaled AVI movies.
  383.         The X filter interpolates the pixels in the horizontal
  384.         dimension and the Y filter does so in the vertical dimension.
  385.  
  386.         Y filtering works only if sufficient off screen memory is
  387.         available. Otherwise it is ignored.
  388.  
  389.         The settings for the filters are done via the "ELSA EnDIVE
  390.         Set" tool. X filtering is set by default.
  391.  
  392. 7.1.1  Prerequisites for Y filtering
  393.  
  394.         The video vertical size must be stretched by 2.8 or more
  395.  
  396. 7.2     Common restrictions of the EnDIVE support
  397.  
  398.         Hardware video acceleration is only possible for one video
  399.         at a time.
  400.         Additional videos will be replayed using software motion video.
  401.  
  402.         fix: for best performance, finish one video before starting
  403.              the next.
  404.  
  405.         In addition, the selected screen resolution should leave
  406.         enough free video memory for storing a frame of the required
  407.         resolution. Again, if the driver cannot use the hardware
  408.         acceleration, it will revert to software motion video.
  409.  
  410.         fix: choose a graphics resolution smaller than the available
  411.              maximum.
  412.  
  413.         When using these boards, hardware video shrinking will
  414.         not function properly in all cases. Therefor software motion
  415.         video will be used.
  416.  
  417.         The hardware video can be driven with max. 135MHz pixel
  418.         frequency. If the chosen video mode uses a higher pixel
  419.         frequency
  420.         software motion video will be used.
  421.         We recommend video playback at a resolution of 1024x768. With
  422.         this resolution the hardware video acceleration can be used in
  423.         any colormode with high refresh rates.
  424.  
  425.         In some cases/graphic-modes (ELSA WINNER 3000-S/-M/-L and
  426.         ELSA VICTORY 3D) the hardware needs a minimum stretch factor
  427.         (size of source image / size of video window) to work. In case
  428.         of the actual stretch factor being less than the minimum factor
  429.         software motion video will be used.
  430.  
  431. 7.3     To use the hardware support of the DIVE interface, you must
  432.         have 64MB of address space available in your system. This is
  433.         determined and configured by the driver.  A failure will occur
  434.         if any of the following conditions holds:
  435.  
  436.            a) PCI BUS computer:
  437.                 - more than 4031MB of address space used already
  438.                   unlikely.
  439.                   fix: none available
  440.                 - older system BIOS (non PCI-conforming)
  441.                   fix: place the following line into your CONFIG.SYS:
  442.                        SET VIDEO_APERTURE=A00
  443.                   This allocates the 64MB Video aperture at 2,5GB in
  444.                   your address space. Be sure this does not conflict
  445.                   with address space requirements of other cards you
  446.                   use.
  447.            b) V L Bus computer:
  448.                 - more than 64MB of main memory
  449.                   fix: none available
  450.                 - BIOS assigned an invalid address
  451.                   fix: add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS:
  452.                         SET VIDEO_APERTURE=40
  453.                   This assigns addresses following the first 64MB to
  454.                   your video board.
  455.

  458. 8.      Adjustments (CONFIG.SYS)
  459.  
  460.         By use of the SET command in the CONFIG.SYS you can adjust
  461.         some behaviour of the driver.
  462.  
  463. 8.1     SET VIDEO_APERTURE=xxx
  464.  
  465.         see 7.3
  466.  
  467. 8.2     SET ELSA_RESET=[H|L]
  468.  
  469.         Use this to reset the selected resolution to one of these:
  470.  
  471.         H = 1024x768x8@75Hz
  472.         L =  640x480x8@60Hz
  473.  
  474.         This setting is valid as long as it appears in the CONFIG.SYS.
  475.  
  476.  
  477. 8.3     SET USE_SMALL_FONTS=[0|1]
  478.  
  479.         To use the small icons in a high resolution mode.
  480.  
  481.         1 = small icons should be used in a high res mode
  482.         0 = default icon size should be used.
  483.  
  484.  
  485.         Hint: The usage of this flag causes an incorrect display of
  486.         the maximize window botton.
  487.  
  488.  
  489. 8.4     SET USE_FIXPAK17=[0|1] (only to use in conjunction with Warp 3.x)
  490.  
  491.         Use this setting to avoid defective icons on a system with a
  492.         fixpak 17 and in a true colour mode.
  493.  
  494.         1 = fixpak 17 installed
  495.         0 = no fixpak 17
  496.  
  497. 8.5     SET TIM=........
  498.         This makes the video timing produced by WINMAN applicable to the
  499.         WPS. The driver takes the TIM line prior to the mode setting done
  500.         by the "ELSA Resolution Manager". However, it is lower in priority
  501.         than the ELSA_RESET line.
  502.  
  503. 8.6     SET XREFRESH=H
  504.         This forces OS/2 and DOS Full Screen Sessions into VGA high-refresh
  505.         text mode. It has the same effect as the DOS-Tool XFREFRESH.EXE.
  506.  
  507.         This setting is only valid with the following graphics boards:
  508.          - ELSA WINNER 2000AVI/3D
  509.          - ELSA WINNER 3000-M/-L
