  11. DESCRIPTION
  12.  
  13. This document describes how to set up graphics cards that have the ATI 
  14. Mach 32 chip set to run in OS/2.
  15.  
  16. RESOLUTION
  17.  
  18. Video Cards with the Mach 32 Chip Set
  19. -------------------------------------
  20. * ATI VGA Wonder GT
  21. * ATI Graphics Ultra Plus
  22. * ATI Graphics Ultra Pro
  23. * ATI Ultra Professional
  24.  
  25. Set Up the Monitor
  26. ------------------
  27.   OS/2 2.x
  28.   --------
  29.   1. Select the monitor type as Custom.
  30.  
  31.   2. Select the resolution you want and press Enter:
  32.  
  33.      * 640x480:   Set to 60 Hz or IBM Default
  34.      * 800x600:   Incompatible
  35.      * 1024x768:  Set to 60 Hz or IBM Default
  36.      * 1280x1024: Incompatible
  37.  
  38.   3. Select the refresh rate and press Enter. (See the monitor's
  39.      specifications for the vertical refresh rates.
  40.  
  41.   4. Adjust the screen using installation commands; then press Enter.
  42.  
  43.      Note: If the screen is unreadable press Esc to return to the
  44.            Adjust xxxxxx Mode menu; then select a different refresh
  45.            rate.
  46.  
  47.   OS/2 Warp
  48.   ---------
  49.   1. Select the system's monitor or a compatible one. If there is no
  50.      compatible monitor, select Custom.
  51.  
  52.   2. Select the resolution you want and press Enter:
  53.  
  54.      * 640x480: Set to 60 Hz or IBM Default
  55.      * 800x600
  56.      * 1024x768
  57.      * 1280x1024
  58.  
  59.   3. Select the refresh rate and press Enter. (See the monitor's
  60.      specifications for the vertical refresh rates.
  61.  
  62.   4. Adjust the screen using installation commands; then press Enter.
  63.  
  64.      Note: If the screen is unreadable, press Esc to return to the
  65.            Adjust xxxxxx Mode menu; then select a different refresh
  66.            rate.

  68. Set Up the Memory Aperture
  69. --------------------------
  70.   ISA-Bus Systems
  71.   ---------------
  72.   1. Disable, if the system has more than 12 MB of RAM.
  73.   2. Enable and set to 96 MB; aperture should show as 100 MB.

  75.   EISA-Bus Systems
  76.   ----------------
  77.   Enable and set to 96 MB; aperture should show as 100 MB.

  79. Set Up the VGA Memory
  80. ---------------------
  81. With 1 MB of Video RAM, set VGA memory to Shared.
  82. With 2 MB of Video RAM, set VGA memory to 512KB or 1MB.

  84. Installing OS/2
  85. ---------------
  86.   OS/2 2.x
  87.   --------
  88.   Install as an 8514 system, or install as a VGA system and then do a
  89.   Selective Install as an 8514 system.

  91.   OS/2 Warp
  92.   ---------
  93.   Install as ATI Mach 32, or install as a VGA system and then do a
  94.    Selective Install as ATI Mach 32.
  95.  
  96. Notes:  
  97.  
  98. 1. On OS/2 2.x, do NOT run with SVGA ON; it does not apply to this
  99.    adapter. If the SVGADATA.PMI file exists, delete it.
  100.  
  101. 2. The monitor must be capable of the higher refresh rates. Check the
  102.    monitor's specifications.
  103.  
  104. Set Up the ATI Mach 32 Card to Emulate the 8514 Video Adapter
  105. -------------------------------------------------------------
  106.  1. Start the system from a DOS diskette that has no memory management
  107.     programs.
  108.  
  109.  2. Insert the ATI Installation Diskette in drive A.
  110.  
  111.  3. Type A: and press Enter.
  112.  
  113.  4. Type Install and press Enter.
  114.  
  115.  5. Select Power up Configuration and press Enter.
  116.  
  117.  6. Select Monitor Type and press Enter.
  118.  
  119.     OS/2 2.x
  120.    --------
  121.     a. Select the monitor type as Custom.
  122.  
  123.        READ THE WARNING. Be sure not to set up the monitor beyond its
  124.        capability. Check the monitor documentation for more information.
  125.  
  126.        The ATI manual describes Custom Setup in the "Hardware
  127.        Installation/Quick Setup/Custom..." section. If you are not sure
  128.        what needs to be done, refer to the documentation.
  129.  
  130.     b. Select the resolution, as follows:
  131.  
  132.        Note: All resolutions, except Other... are supported with the
  133.              Mach 64 drivers that come with OS/2 Warp.
  134.  
  135.        * 640x480: Select either IBM Default or 60 Hz (whichever is
  136.          present).
  137.      
  138.        * 800x600: Select NON-SUPPORTED.
  139.  
  140.        * 1024x768: Select the highest refresh rate the monitor can
  141.          handle.
  142.  
  143.          Check the monitor's specifications for refresh rates. If there
  144.          are no monitor specifications, select 72 Hz.
  145.  
  146.          Adjust the screen presentation using the instructions on the
  147.          screen.
  148.  
  149.          Note: If the screen is unreadable, press Esc to return to the
  150.                Adjust xxxxxx Mode menu and select a different refresh
  151.                rate. The choices are 72 Hz, 70 Hz, and 60 Hz
  152.                noninterlaced, and 87.5 Hz interlaced.
  153.  
  154.        * 1280x1024: Select NON-SUPPORTED.
  155.  
  156.     c. Press Esc; then select Y.
  157.  
  158.     d. Press F10 to save the changes.
  159.  
  160.     OS/2 Warp
  161.     ---------
  162.     a. Select the system's monitor or a compatible one. If there is no

  213.     a. Return to the Power Up Configuration menu.
  214.     b. Press F10; the monitor flickers while programming EPROM.
  215.     c. Perform a shutdown and turn off the system; then restart it.

  217. 10. Install OS/2:
  218.  
  219.     OS/2 2.x
  220.     --------
  221.     Install as an 8514 system, or install as a VGA system and then do a
  222.     Selective Install as an 8514 system.
  223.  
  224.     OS/2 Warp
  225.     ---------
  226.     Install as ATI Mach 32, or install as a VGA system and then do a
  227.     Selective Install as ATI Mach 32.
  228.  
  229. Note: Do NOT run with SVGA ON; it does not apply to this adapter. If
