RUNNING
12/18/96
=======================================================================
Cannot Logoff WatchDog Security System with ARTCHRON.EXE Running
=======================================================================
Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures
--------------------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION
When you attempt to logoff from a Fischer Watchdog PC Data Security
System, the following message is displayed:
The following running processes must be terminated before logoff can
complete:
This message is followed by a list of processes that have been started.
ARTCHRON.EXE is automatically started when the Workplace Shell is
launched; however, it does not display in this list of processes that
must be terminated. If it is the only process preventing logoff, no
processes are listed.
Note: For more information about Fischer Watchdog PC Data Security
System, see http://www.fisc.com/wdog.htm.
RESOLUTION
As a part of configuring a system to use SES (Security Enabling
Services) and an ISS (Installable Security Subsystem), erase or rename
the ARTCHRON.EXE file.
1. Shutdown and restart the system.
2. Press Alt+F1 when the small white rectangle appears in the upper
left corner of the screen.
3. Press F2 to go to a command prompt.
4. Change to the \OS2\ART subdirectory.
5. Rename the ARTCHRON.EXE file. For example, type:
RENAME ARTCHRON.EXE ARTCHRON.BAK, then press Enter.
6. Type EXIT to continue startup. ARTCHRON.EXE is not started. The
Workplace Shell continues to run normally if ARTCHRON.EXE is not
started and no errors or logs are produced if ARTCHRON.EXE is not
found during the attempt to start it.
