  13. DESCRIPTION
  14.  
  15. Security Enabling Services (SES) allows independent software vendors 
  16. (ISVs) to create security applications for OS/2 2.11. SES is provided 
  17. by IBM; however, all security applications are provided by ISVs.  
  18.  
  19. Note: SES alone does not secure a system. You need an additional
  20.       Security Application to do so.
  21.  
  22. Following are questions and answers that will assist you in  setting up 
  23. SES in OS/2 2.11.

  27. What happens if I...
  28.  
  29. ...install SES, but do not install a security product?
  30.  
  31.    Security is not enabled. You should see no difference in function or
  32.    performance. The initial SES files and directories will be
  33.    installed, but there will be no CONFIG.SYS file changes.
  34.  
  35. ...restart from SES Boot Diskette 1 and run A:SERVICE rather than 
  36.    A:SECURITY?
  37.  
  38.    No Security files will be installed. The README.SES file states that
  39.    A:SECURITY must be entered from the A: prompt.
  40.  
  41. ...apply FixPak 100 before OS2SES, or vice versa?
  42.  
  43.    You can apply OS2SES and FixPak 100 in any order.
  44.  
  45.    If you plan to establish a Security system and will also be
  46.    installing a FixPak later than 100, you must FIRST apply OS2SES.
  47.  
  48.    If your system is at a service level later than FixPak 100, you must
  49.    apply any security updates included in that FixPak level AFTER
  50.    installing OS2SES. (You should review the README.1ST file that comes
  51.    with the FixPaks to check for security updates. If updates are
  52.    included, reapply the FixPak, which will update only security.)

  54. ...use the SES Corrective Service Facility (CSF) Boot Diskettes to 
  55.    install FixPak 100?
  56.  
  57.    Service and FService are the same on the SES CSF and Fixtool2B CSF
  58.    Boot Diskettes, so they can be used to install FixPak 100.

  60.    Important: SES CSF Boot Diskettes must be used to install
  61.               Security, because they contain the files,
  62.               SECURITY.EXE and SESSERV.EXE.
