  10. DESCRIPTION
  11.  
  12. When installing OS/2 Warp 4 from a Backpack CD-ROM, using the drivers 
  13. that ship with the Backpack CD-ROM, an error message occurs during 
  14. Diskette 2 of installation: "OS/2 is unable to operate hard drive or 
  15. diskette drive."
  16.  
  17. This error occurs on any system using Backpack CD-ROM models 163550, or 
  18. 164550.
  19.  
  20. RESOLUTION
  21.  
  22. Obtain the latest drivers for the Backpack CD-ROM from the following 
  23. location:
  24.  
  25. ftp://www.micro-solutions.com/software/backpack/cd_rom/os2_only
  26.  
  27. Download OS2CD204.EXE to a temporary directory. Change to this 
  28. temporary directory, then type OS2CD204 to extract the files. 
  29. BPCDOS2.ADD is the file needed for the installation.
  30.  
  31. Update the OS/2 installation diskettes as follows:
  32.  
  33. 1. Make a DISKCOPY of OS/2 Warp 4 Installation Diskette 1.
  34.  
  35. 2. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on the diskcopy of Diskette 1. 
  36.  
  37. 3. Add the following statement to the second group of BASEDEV 
  38.    statements:
  39.  
  40.    BASEDEV=PBCDOS2.ADD
  41.   
  42. 4. Add the statement SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1 to the end of the CONFIG.SYS 
  43.    file.
  44.  
  45. 5. REM the BASEDEV statements not needed for the particular system: 
  46.  
  47.    * For non-Micro-Channel systems remark-out all IBM2* drivers.
  48.  
  49.    * For Micro-Channel systems, remark-out all IBM1* drivers.
  50.  
  51. 6. Save and exit the CONFIG.SYS file. 
  52.  
  53. 7. Delete the driver off of Diskette 1 that was remmed out in Step 5
  54.    to make room for the backpack driver.
  55.  
  56. 8. Since the installation looks for all of the files on Diskette 1 
  57.    to copy to the hard disk even though they are not needed, the 
  58.    following steps must be done:
  59.  
  60.    * If you delete IBM2SCSI.ADD, for instance, use a text editor to 
  61.      save a file as IBM2SCSI.ADD.
  62.  
  63.    * Repeat this procedure for any file you delete from the diskcopy of 
  64.      Diskette 1.
  65.  
  66. 9. Restart the system with the OS/2 Warp 4 Installation Diskette,
  67.    inserting the modified Diskette 1 when prompted for Diskette 1.
  68.    Continue the installation.
