  11. DESCRIPTION
  12.  
  13. This document describes how to install Boot Manager with one or two 
  14. additional operating systems.

  16. RESOLUTION
  17.  
  18. Installing Boot Manager, OS/2 2.1, and One Additional Operating System
  19. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  20. In this example, an existing primary partition of 60 MB (which takes up 
  21. the entire hard disk space) is deleted and replaced by:
  22.  
  23. * A 1 MB Boot Manager partition
  24. * A 4 MB primary partition, in which DOS will be installed
  25. * A 55 MB logical drive, in which OS/2 2.1 will be installed.
  26.  
  27.  1. Back up any data you want to save from the existing partition. Use
  28.     the BACKUP command from your existing operating system.
  29.  
  30.  2. Insert the Installation Diskette and restart your system. Follow
  31.     the instructions on the screen until the Installation Drive
  32.     Selection screen appears.
  33.  
  34.  3. Select option 2, Specify a Different Drive or Partition, to start
  35.     the FDISK program.
  36.  
  37.  4. Delete the existing partition (which you have backed up):
  38.  
  39.     a. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  40.     b. Select Delete Partition and press Enter.
  41.  
  42.  5. Create the Boot Manager partition and install Boot Manager:
  43.  
  44.     a. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  45.     b. Select Install Boot Manager and press Enter.
  46.     c. Select Create at Start of Free Space and press Enter.

  48.  6. Create the DOS (4.0 or later) partition:
  49.  
  50.     a. Highlight the Free Space line.
  51.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  52.     c. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  53.     d. Type the size of the primary partition (here, 4) and press Enter.
  54.     e. Select Primary Partition and press Enter.
  55.     f. Select Create at Start of Free Space and press Enter.
  56.     g. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  57.     h. Select Add to Boot Manager Menu and press Enter.
  58.     i. Type DOS and press Enter.

  60.  7. Create the OS/2 Version 2.1 logical drive:
  61.  
  62.     a. Highlight the Free Space line.
  63.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  64.     c. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  65.     d. Accept the size of the extended logical drive (here, 55) by
  66.        pressing Enter.
  67.     e. Select Extended Logical Drive and press Enter.

  69.        Note: If you enter a number less than 55 for the size of the
  70.              logical drive, you also have to select from Create at
  71.              Start of Free Space or Create at End of Free Space.

  73.     f. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  74.     g. Select Add to Boot Manager Menu and press Enter.
  75.     h. Type OS/2 2.1 and press Enter.

  77.  8. Set up OS/2 Version 2.1 as the default:

  79.     a. Highlight the OS/2 2.1 line.
  80.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  81.     c. Select Set Startup Values and press Enter.
  82.     d. Select Default and press Enter.
  83.     e. Press F3.

  85.  9. Indicate which partition should be used for the OS/2 2.1
  86.     installation:
  87.  
  88.     a. Highlight the OS/2 2.1 line.
  89.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  90.     c. Select Set Installable and press Enter.

  92. 10. Exit FDISK:
  93.  
  94.     a. Press F3 to exit FDISK.
  95.     b. Select Save and Exit; then press Enter.

  97. 11. Complete the installation of OS/2 2.1.

  99. 12. Install DOS:
  100.  
  101.     a. Insert the DOS Installation Diskette.
  102.     b. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
  103.     c. Follow the prompts on the screen.

  105. 13. Restart the system by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del.

  107. Installing Boot Manager, OS/2 2.1, and Two Additional Operating Systems
  108. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  109. In this example, an existing primary partition of 80 MB (which takes up 
  110. the entire hard disk space) is deleted and replaced by:
  111.  
  112. * A 1 MB Boot Manager partition
  113. * A 4 MB primary partition, in which DOS will be installed
  114. * A 20 MB primary partition, in which OS/2 Version 1.3 will be installed
  115. * A 55 MB logical drive, in which OS/2 2.1 will be installed
  116.  
  117. Note: Only one of the primary partitions can be active at a time. The
  118.       primary partition cannot share data.
  119.  
  120.  1. Back up any data you want to save from the existing partition. (Use
  121.     the BACKUP command from your existing operating system.)
  122.  
  123.  2. Insert the Installation Diskette; then restart your system and
  124.     follow the instructions on the screen until the Installation
  125.     Drive Selection screen appears.
  126.  
  127.  3. Select option 2, Specify a Different Drive or Partition, to start
  128.     the FDISK program.

  130.  4. Delete the existing partition (which you have backed up):

  132.     a. Press Enter to display the Options menu.

  144.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  145.     c. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  146.     d. Type the size of the primary partition (here, 4) and press
  147.        Enter.
  148.     e. Select Primary Partition and press Enter.
  149.     f. Select Create At Start of Free Space and press Enter.
  150.     g. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  151.     h. Select Add to Boot Manager Menu and press Enter.
  152.     i. Type DOS and press Enter.

  154.  7. Create the OS/2 Version 1.3 partition:
  155.  
  156.     a. Highlight the Free Space line.
  157.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  158.     c. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  159.     d. Type the size of the primary partition (here, 20) and press
  160.        Enter.
  161.     e. Select Primary Partition and press Enter.
  162.     f. Select Create At Start of Free Space and press Enter.
  163.     g. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  164.     h. Select Add to Boot Manager Menu and press Enter.
  165.     i. Type OS/2 1.3 and press Enter.

  167.  8. Create the OS/2 2.1 logical drive:

  169.     a. Highlight the Free Space line.
  170.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  171.     c. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  172.     d. Accept the size of the extended logical drive (55) by pressing
  173.        Enter.
  174.     e. Select Extended Logical Drive and press Enter.

  184.  9. Set up OS/2 Version 2.1 as the default:

  186.     a. Highlight the OS/2 2.1 line.
  187.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  188.     c. Select Set Startup Values and press Enter.
  189.     d. Select Default and press Enter.
  190.     e. Press F3.

  192. 10. Indicate which partition should be used for the OS/2 2.1 
  193.     installation:
  194.  
  195.     a. Highlight the OS/2 2.1 line.
  196.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  197.     c. Select Set Installable and press Enter.

  199. 11. Exit FDISK:
  200.  
  201.     a. Press F3 to exit FDISK.
  202.     b. Select Save and Exit and press Enter.

  204. 12. Complete the installation of OS/2 2.1.

  206. 13. With OS/2 2.1 running, make the DOS partition installable:
  207.  
  208.     a. Open OS/2 System.
  209.     b. Open Command Prompts.
  210.     c. Select OS/2 Full Screen.
  211.     d. Type FDISK and press Enter.
  212.     e. Highlight the DOS line.
  213.     f. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  214.     g. Select Set Installable and press Enter.
  215.     h. Press F3 to exit FDISK.
  216.     i. Select Save and Exit and press Enter.
  217.     j. Shut down the system.

  219. 14. Install DOS:
  220.  
  221.     a. Insert the DOS Installation Diskette.
  222.     b. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
  223.     c. Follow the prompts on the screen to complete the DOS
  224.        installation.

  226. 15. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
  227.  
  228. 16. Select OS/2 2.1 from the Boot Manager startup menu.
  229.  
  230. 17. Make the OS/2 1.3 partition installable:
  231.  
  232.     a. Open OS/2 System.
  233.     b. Open Command Prompts.
  234.     c. Select OS/2 Full Screen.
  235.     d. Type FDISK and press Enter.
  236.     e. Highlight the OS/2 1.3 line.
  237.     f. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  238.     g. Select Set Installable and press Enter.
  239.     h. Press F3 to exit FDISK.
  240.     i. Select Save and Exit and press Enter.
  241.     j. Shut down the system.

  243. 18. Install OS/2 Version 1.3:
  244.  
  245.     a. Insert the OS/2 Version 1.3 Installation Diskette.
  246.     b. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
  247.     c. Follow the prompts on the screen to complete the
  248.        installation.

  250. 19. Make the Boot Manager startable:
  251.  
  252.     a. With OS/2 1.3 running, select Manage Partitions from the
  253.        Utilities group.
  254.  
  255.     b. Highlight the line that represents the Boot Manager. (The Boot
  256.        Manager entry is not identified as such, but you can recognize
  257.        it by its size of 1 MB.)
  258.  
  259.     c. Select Options.
  260.  
  261.     d. Select Startable.
  262.  
  263. 20. Restart the system to see the Boot Manager Startup menu.
