  11. DESCRIPTION
  12.  
  13. This document describes how to return your system to VGA mode in OS/2 
  14. Warp.
  15.  
  16. RESOLUTION
  17.  
  18. Method 1: SETVGA Using the Maintenance Desk
  19. -------------------------------------------
  20.  
  21. Note: If you have a video adapter that is using a utility program for
  22.       the video, use the utility first to return the video to VGA.
  23.  
  24. Primary
  25. -------
  26. 1. Turn on the computer, or press Ctrl+Alt+Del if it is already on.
  27.  
  28. 2. When the small white box appears in the upper-left corner, press
  29.    Alt+F1.
  30.  
  31. 3. When the Recovery Choices screen appears, type V. This resets video
  32.    to VGA.
  33.  
  34. 4. When the process is complete, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the
  35.    system.

  38. ---------
  39. 1. Turn on the computer, or press Ctrl+Alt+Del if it is already on.
  40.  
  41. 2. When the small white box appears in the upper-left corner, press
  42.    Alt+F1.
  43.  
  44. 3. When the Recovery Choices screen appears, type C to go to a command
  45.    prompt.
  46.  
  47. 4. Type SETVGA and press Enter.
  48.  
  49. 5. When the process is complete, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the
  50.    system.

  52. Review the procedures in the User's Guide to OS/2 Warp if you want to 
  53. install a new adapter or video device driver.
  54.  
  55. Note: If you plan to install SVGA support in the future, you can do a
  56.       Selective Install to rewrite the VGA drivers to the hard disk and
  57.       update the system configuration.

  60. Method 2: RSPDSPI
  61. -----------------
  62.  
  63. You can use this procedure instead of Method 1 to return to VGA mode.
  64.  
  65. 1. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A.
  66.  
  67. 2. Turn on the computer. If it is already on, perform a shutdown, and
  68.    then press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart it.
  69.  
  70. 3. When prompted, remove the Installation Diskette and insert Diskette
  71.    1; then press Enter.
  72.  
  73. 4. When the Welcome screen appears, press F3 to display the command
  74.    prompt.
  75.  
  76.    At the command prompt, perform the following steps that apply:
  77.  
  78.    Note: In the procedures, x is the drive where OS/2 is installed.
  79.  
  80.    Case 1: You Installed OS/2 from Diskettes
  81.    -----------------------------------------
  82.    a. If RSPDSPI.EXE is in the \OS2\INSTALL\ directory, type the
  83.       following, pressing Enter after each (A: is the diskette drive
  84.       used to install OS/2):
  85.  
  86.       x:
  87.       CD x:\OS2\INSTALL
  88.       RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:x:
  89.  
  90.    b. If RSPDSPI.EXE is not in the \OS2\INSTALL\ directory:
  91.  
  92.       1) Insert Installation Diskette 12 and unpack RSPDSPI.EXE by
  93.          typing the following and pressing Enter (A: is drive
  94.          containing Diskette 12):
  95.  
  96.          x:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID x: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  97.  
  98.       2) Type the following and press Enter after each (A: is the
  99.          diskette drive used to install OS/2):
  100.  
  101.          x:
  102.          CD x:\OS2\INSTALL 
  103.          RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:x:

  105.    Case 2: You Installed OS/2 from CD-ROM or a LAN
  106.    -----------------------------------------------
  107.    a. If RSPDSPI.EXE is in the \OS2\INSTALL\ directory, type the
  108.       following, pressing Enter after each:
  109.  
  110.       x:
  111.       CD x:\OS2\INSTALL
  112.       RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:E:\OS2IMAGE\ /T:C:
  113.  
  114.       (E: is the CD-ROM or LAN drive; C: is where OS/2 is installed.)
  115.  
  116.    b. If RSPDSPI.EXE is not in the \OS2\INSTALL\ directory:
  117.  
  118.       1) Unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with the following command and press Enter:
  119.  
  120.          x:\OS2\UNPACK E:\DISK_12\INSTAID x: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  121.  
  122.          (E: is the CD-ROM or LAN drive; C: is where OS/2
  123.          is installed.)
  124.  
  125.       2) Type the following and press Enter after each:
  126.  
  127.          x:
  128.          CD x:\OS2\INSTALL
  129.          RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:E:\OS2SE21\ /T:x:
  130.  
  131.          (E: is the CD-ROM or LAN drive.)
  132.  
  133. Note: If the above methods are unsuccessful, check your hard disk for
  134.       the following files. If these files are not on your hard disk,
  135.       unpack them from Display Driver Diskette 1. Items B and C are in
  136.       the bundled file, VGA.
  137.  
  138.          A. IBMVGA32.DLL      26164      10-04-94
  139.          B. IBMDEV32.DLL      82904       9-23-94
  140.          C. BVHVGA.DLL        31054      10-09-94
  141.          D. DISPLAY.DLL       38288       9-23-94

  143.       Place the diskette in drive A; then type the following and press
  144.       Enter after each:
  145.  
  146.          x:\>
  147.          \OS2\UNPACK A:\VGA
  148.  
  149.       With Display Diskette 1 in drive A, type the following and press
  150.       Enter.
  151.  
  152.          x:\OS2\UNPACK A:\VGA /N:IBMDEV32.DLL 
  153.  
  154.       This puts files on your hard disk in \OS2\DLL subdirectory.
  155.  
  156.       Type the same command for BVHVGA.DLL to put it in the \OS2\DLL
  157.       subdirectory.
  158.  
  159. Use a text editor to check the CONFIG.SYS file on your hard disk for 
  160. the following statements:
  161.  
  162.    DEVINFO=SCR,VGA,X:\OS2\VIOTBL.DCP
  163.    SET VIDEO_DEVICES=VIO_VGA
  164.    SET VIO_VGA=DEVICE(BVHVGA)
  165.    DEVICE=x:\OS2\MDOS\VVGA.SYS
  166.  
  167. You can set up for SVGA if the video adapter supports higher 
  168. resolutions. Contact the vendor of the adapter to ensure you have the 
  169. correct and latest drivers, and that the resolution is compatible in 
  170. OS/2. If you have a utility or setup program for your video, follow 
  171. those instructions first.

  173. The instructions to change the video to SVGA and to enable SVGA in 
  174. WIN-OS/2 are in the User's Guide to OS/2 Warp.
