  7.        Manager/2, and Database Manager--OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 2.11

  13. DESCRIPTION
  14.  
  15. This document contains various recovery procedures:
  16.  
  17. * Lost Extended Services and LAN Icons: This procedure can be used to
  18.   recover lost Extended Services or LAN Services and User Profile
  19.   Manager (UPM) icons if it is necessary to rename or make new system
  20.   INI files.
  21.  
  22. * IBM LAN and Extended Services: Download a REXX program to re-create
  23.   folders and objects automatically. The program is MKESLAN.CMD and can
  24.   be obtained from the IBM PCC BBS (919-517-0001).
  25.  
  26. * Communications Manager/2: Run CMSETUP from an OS/2 window. Select
  27.   Options and then Recreate Folders.
  28.  
  29. * Database Manager Icons: Procedure to recover Database Manager icons
  30.   after running MAKEINI.
  31.  
  32. RESOLUTION
  33.  
  34. Recovering LAN Services and User Profile Manager (UPM) Icons
  35. ------------------------------------------------------------
  36.  1. Type \IBMLAN\INSTALL\LANINST and press Enter.
  37.  2. Select OK.
  38.  3. Select Advanced.
  39.  4. Select Install or Configure this WS; then select OK.
  40.  5. Select Fixed Disk where the requester is installed; then select OK.
  41.  6. Select Configure a Component and OK.
  42.  7. Select LAN Adapter and Protocol Support; then select Configure.
  43.  8. Select Configure WS and OK.
  44.  9. Select OK on the Configure WS screen; do not make any changes.
  45. 10. Select Configuration Complete and OK.
  46. 11. Select OK on the LAN Adapters screen.
  47. 12. Select OK on the Configure Screen.
  48. 13. Select OK to apply changes; none were made. 
  49.  
  50. If the requester is running:
  51.  
  52. 14. Select OK to stop the requester.
  53. 15. Select OK on the File Backup screen (note the directory and the name
  54.     of the backed-up CONFIG.SYS file for recovery).
  55.  
  56. When the operation is complete, LAN Services and UPM icons are on the 
  57. Desktop. Perform a shutdown and restart the system.
  58.  
  59. Recovering the Communications Manager Icon
  60. ------------------------------------------
  61.  1. Back up the CONFIG.SYS file.
  62.  2. Type REINST and press Enter.
  63.  3. Select Option 1 - Install Communications Manager.
  64.  4. Select Option 1 - Configuration Files.
  65.  5. Select Esc+Cancel on the CM Configuration File menu.
  66.  6. Select F3 on the CM Install menu.
  67.  7. Select F3 on the ES Install/Remove menu.
  68.  
  69. When the operation is complete, the Communications Manager icon is on
  70. the Desktop. Perform a shutdown and restart the system.

  72. Recovering Database Manager Icons after Running MAKEINI
  73. -------------------------------------------------------
  74.  1. Open OS2 System and then System Setup.
  75.  
  76.  2. Select Migrate Applications.
  77.  
  78.  3. Make sure OS/2 programs is the only choice checked in the Find
  79.     Programs window.
  80.  
  81.  4. Make sure the Database Manager drive letter is the only one
  82.     highlighted.
  83.  
  84.  5. Select Find to open the Migrate Programs window.
  85.  
  86.  6. Select OK; there were no programs found to migrate.
  87.  
  88.  7. Select the Add Programs button to open the Add Programs window.
  89.  
  90.  8. Add the following files to the Selected Programs window: (Highlight
  91.     one file at a time in the Available Programs window; then select
  92.     Add. The file moves from the Available Programs window to the
  93.     Selected Programs window.)
  94.    
  95.       CONFIG.EXE
  96.       DIRECT.EXE
  97.       RECOVERY.EXE
  98.       DBM.CMD
  99.       QUERYMGR.EXE
  100.  
  101.     Notes: 
  102.  
  103.     * The files are in the \SQLLIB directory in the partition where
  104.       Database Manager was initially installed. If you don't know where
  105.       Database Manager was installed, type ATTRIB DBM.CMD /S and press
  106.       Enter at the root of each partition. If the DBM.CMD file is in the
  107.       partition, it appears after the command is executed.
  108.  
  109.     * Use the cursor-control keys to find the files in the Available
  110.       Programs window. File names are on the left followed by their
  111.       drive letter and directory. Scrolling to the right displays
  112.       directories, making it easier to find the \SQLLIB directory with
  113.       files you need to add.
  114.  
  115.  9. Make sure OS/2 is selected as the program type; then select OK after
  116.     adding the files.
  117.  
  118. 10. Select Migrate in the Migrate Programs window.
  119.  
  120. 11. Exit the migration utility and return to the Desktop. The Database
  121.     icons should be on the Desktop.
  122.  
  123. An additional icon can be created using the Program icon from the 
  124. Templates folder:
  125.  
  126. 1. Open the Templates folder.
  127.  
  128. 2. Point at the Program icon; then press and hold mouse button 2 and
  129.    drag the Program icon to an empty area of the Desktop. Release the
  130.    mouse button. The Settings notebook opens.
  131.  
  132. 3. Type x:\OS2\VIEW.EXE in the Required Path and file name field (x is
  133.    the drive where OS/2 is installed).
  134.  
  135. 4. Type DBMSG.INF in the Optional Parameters field.
  136.  
  137. 5. Type x:\SQLLIB\BOOK in the Working Directory field (x is the drive
  138.    where Database Manager is installed).
  139.  
  140. 6. Select Close to exit the Settings folder.
  141.  
  142. 7. Perform a shutdown and restart the system.
