Correcting Crosslink files 7/15/94

TITLE: Chkdsk is Reporting Crosslinked Files.
DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
Running chkdsk from the floppies or when booting reports crosslinked files.
SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
The EA DATA. SF file records the location of files on the hard drive by their
extended attributes. Crosslinked files occur when two files are trying
to claim the same extended attribute.
DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
1. Insert the OS/2 Installation Diskette in Drive A and press
Ctrl+Alt+Del.
2. When prompted insert Install Disk 1 in Drive A and press Enter.
3. At the "Welcome to OS/2" screen press ESC to cancel.
4. At the A prompt type X: and press Enter.
Where X is the partition you will create a temporary directory on.
5. Type MD TEMP and press Enter.
6. Type CD TEMP and press Enter.
7. Copy all the crosslinked files into the new TEMP directory by typing
COPY X:\DIR\FILENAME.EXT and press Enter. X is the drive letter that
contains the crosslinked files.
8. Delete the original files (not the copies you just made).
9. Insert Install Disk 2 in Drive A. Type CHKDSK X: /F and press Enter.
10. Copy the files back to their original location.
11. Delete all the files in the X:\TEMP directory.
12. Type CD.. and press Enter.
13. Type RD TEMP and press Enter.
