SYS3175 -INSTALLATION of OS/2
This error will occur while installing OS/2 either after the
first reboot or while doing a SELECTIVE INSTALL.
WORKAROUND: IF you are NOT using a Future Domain SCSI driver:
RENAME: FD16-700.EXE to FD16-700.BAK or FD16-700.OLD
Driver is found in the OS2/DRIVERS subdirectory.
If you have a Future Domain driver and receive the SYS3175, you
will need to obtain an updated driver.

SYS3175 - VIDEO (Workaround is same for both video
SYS3175 - PRINT and print; both are corrupted INI's)
SYMPTON: If you have installed a video driver or in process of
installing one and you have received the error message
SYS3175, please follow the VIDEO section of this fax.
WORKAROUND: Procedures are listed IN ORDER to follow:
Reset video back to VGA (Valuepoint, ATI, S-3)
Run CHKDSK
MAKEINI
~~~~IMPORTANT~~~~ If you have one of the following video cards
or chipset, you MUST go back to VGA mode first
before you continue.
IBM Valuepoint
ATI
S-3 chipset
If NOT, then run CHKDSK and MAKEINI as instructed.
Follow the instructions listed below to reset to VGA:

New SETVGA Procedure ----------------------------------------
Use this procedure instead of the SETVGA command if you need to
return to VGA mode. Follow procedure after starting OS/2 from
Installation Diskette and escaping to command prompt.
**NOTE: X: is startup drive (where OS/2 2.1 resides)
Case 1: You installed OS/2 from diskette
1. Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in \OS2\INSTALL\ directory. If it
is, go to step 2. If it is not, insert Installation Disk 8
and unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with following command:
X:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID X: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
where: A: is drive containing Diskette 8
2. Enter following commands:
X:
CD X:\OS2\INSTALL RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:X:
where: A: is diskette drive you used to install OS/2
Case 2: You installed OS/2 from CD-ROM or a LAN
1. Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in \OS2\INSTALL\ directory. If it
is, go to step 2. If it is not, unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with the
following command:
X:\OS2\UNPACK E:\DISK_8\INSTAID X:/N:RSPDSPI.EXE
where E: is the CD-ROM or LAN drive
2. Enter the following commands:
X:
CD X:\OS2\INSTALL
RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:E:\OS2SE21\ /T:X:
where: E: is CD-ROM or LAN drive

To run CHKDSK:
1) Do a shutdown, or if unable to shutdown, turn off system for
30 seconds, put the Installation Diskette in drive A:
2) Turn on computer, or if system is on press CTRL+ALT+DEL to
restart system.
3) When prompted, remove Installation Disk and insert Disk 1.
4) Press ENTER.
5) When the WELCOME SCREEN is displayed, press ESC, to display
command prompt ( A: )
6) Remove Disk #1 and insert Disk #2 (contains CHKDSK command)
7) To correct errors on hard drive, type appropriate CHKDSK
command followed by the drive on which OS/2 resides.

NOTE:(X: denotes drive where OS/2 resides...C:, D:, etc.)
~~~~If your drive is formatted for FAT file system, type:
CHKDSK X: /F
~~~~If your drive is formatted for HPFS file system, type:
CHKDSK X: /F:2
If you installed from CD, you will be dropped off at CD
drive in DISK_1 subdirectory, change to DISK_2 subdir.
X:\OS2SE21\DISK_2
(X: is the CD ROM drive)
8) Press ENTER and the CHKDSK command will start.
~~~~If you have any error/s, you need to run CHKDSK command
repeatedly until ALL errors are cleared up.
~~~~NOTE: After you have run CHKDSK repeatedly, and IF you are
getting same error/s, and they are not being fixed or
corrected, remove diskette, press, and hold
CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart system. Otherwise, do NOT
restart but continue to step #9.

To MAKEINI:
9) Change to drive containing OS/2. Switch to OS2 subdir.
Ex. X:
X:\OS2
X: is drive where OS/2 resides (C:, D:, etc)
10) At command line type:
MAKEINI OS2.INI INI.RC (Press 'ENTER')
MAKEINI OS2SYS.INI INISYS.RC (Press 'ENTER')
(If you are unable to access INI files, type following command:)
ATTRIB OS2*.INI -R
Then go back back and retry to MAKEINI as per above.
11) At command line use the attrib command to delete hidden file
WP ROOT. SF in the OS2 startable partition. At the command
line type:
ATTRIB C:\WP?ROOT.?SF -s -r -h
DEL C:\WP?ROOT.?SF
12) Re-boot computer by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL. This should
re-build desktop to current desktop by replacing corrupt
.INI's with new .INI's created with MAKEINI commands.
13) It is highly recommended to do an IMMEDIATE shutdown after
system is installed to make sure all programs and files have
been associated correctly. Use system shutdown by clicking
with right mouse button on the desktop (*not on any icon*)
with shutdown option in the middle.
