  28. listed with error message.  Record ALL register information.

  30. SYS3175 -INSTALLATION of OS/2
  31.  
  32. This error will occur while installing OS/2 either after the
  33. first reboot or while doing a SELECTIVE INSTALL.
  34.  
  35. WORKAROUND:  IF you are NOT using a Future Domain SCSI driver:
  36.     RENAME:  FD16-700.EXE to FD16-700.BAK or FD16-700.OLD
  37.              Driver is found in the OS2/DRIVERS subdirectory.
  38.  
  39. If you have a Future Domain driver and receive the SYS3175, you
  40. will need to obtain an updated driver.
  41. ****************************************************************
  42. SYS3175 - VIDEO            (Workaround is same for both video
  43. SYS3175 - PRINT             and print; both are corrupted INI's)
  44.  
  45. SYMPTON:  If you have installed a video driver or in process of
  46.           installing one and you have received the error message
  47.           SYS3175, please follow the VIDEO section of this fax.
  48.  
  49. WORKAROUND: Procedures are listed IN ORDER to follow:
  50.                Reset video back to VGA (Valuepoint, ATI, S-3)
  51.                Run CHKDSK
  52.                MAKEINI
  53.  
  54. ~~~~IMPORTANT~~~~ If you have one of the following video cards
  55.                   or chipset, you MUST go back to VGA mode first
  56.                   before you continue.
  57.                          IBM Valuepoint
  58.                          ATI
  59.                          S-3 chipset
  60.               If NOT, then run CHKDSK and MAKEINI as instructed.

  62. Follow the instructions listed below to reset to VGA:

  69. New SETVGA Procedure ----------------------------------------
  70. Use this procedure instead of the SETVGA command if you need to
  71. return to VGA mode. Follow procedure after starting OS/2 from
  72. Installation Diskette and escaping to command prompt.
  73.  
  74. **NOTE:   X: is startup drive (where OS/2 2.1 resides)
  75.  
  76. Case 1:  You installed OS/2 from diskette
  77.  
  78.   1. Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in \OS2\INSTALL\ directory.  If it
  79.      is, go to step 2. If it is not, insert Installation Disk 8
  80.      and unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with following command:
  81.  
  82.        X:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID X: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  83.        where:  A:  is drive containing Diskette 8
  84.  
  85.   2. Enter following commands:
  86.  
  87.        X:
  88.        CD X:\OS2\INSTALL RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:X:
  89.        where:  A:  is diskette drive you used to install OS/2
  90.  
  91. Case 2:  You installed OS/2 from CD-ROM or a LAN
  92.  
  93.   1. Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in \OS2\INSTALL\ directory.  If it
  94.      is, go to step 2. If it is not, unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with the
  95.      following command:
  96.  
  97.        X:\OS2\UNPACK E:\DISK_8\INSTAID X:/N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  98.        where E:  is the CD-ROM or LAN drive
  99.  
  100.   2. Enter the following commands:
  101.  
  102.        X:
  103.        CD X:\OS2\INSTALL
  104.        RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:E:\OS2SE21\ /T:X:
  105.        where:  E:  is CD-ROM or LAN drive
  106.  
  107. ****************************************************************
  108. To run CHKDSK:
  109.  
  110. 1) Do a shutdown, or if unable to shutdown, turn off system for
  111.    30 seconds, put the Installation Diskette in drive A:
  112. 2) Turn on computer, or if system is on press CTRL+ALT+DEL to
  113.    restart system.
  114. 3) When prompted, remove Installation Disk and insert Disk 1.
  115. 4) Press ENTER.
  116. 5) When the WELCOME SCREEN is displayed, press ESC, to display
  117.    command prompt ( A:  )
  118. 6) Remove Disk #1 and insert Disk #2 (contains CHKDSK command)
  119. 7) To correct errors on hard drive, type appropriate CHKDSK
  120.    command followed by the drive on which OS/2 resides.

  127.     NOTE:(X:  denotes drive where OS/2 resides...C:, D:, etc.)

  129. ~~~~If your drive is formatted for FAT file system, type:
  130.          CHKDSK X:  /F
  131.  
  132. ~~~~If your drive is formatted for HPFS file system, type:
  133.          CHKDSK X:  /F:2
  134.  
  135.     If you installed from CD, you will be dropped off at CD
  136.     drive in DISK_1 subdirectory, change to DISK_2 subdir.
  137.  
  138.                   X:\OS2SE21\DISK_2
  139.                (X: is the CD ROM drive)
  140.  
  141. 8) Press ENTER and the CHKDSK command will start.
  142.  
  143. ~~~~If you have any error/s, you need to run CHKDSK command
  144.     repeatedly until ALL errors are cleared up.
  145.  
  146. ~~~~NOTE:  After you have run CHKDSK repeatedly, and IF you are
  147.            getting same error/s, and they are not being fixed or
  148.            corrected, remove diskette, press, and hold
  149.            CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart system.  Otherwise, do NOT
  150.            restart but continue to step #9.

  152. To MAKEINI:
  153.  
  154. 9) Change to drive containing OS/2.  Switch to OS2 subdir.
  155.          Ex.  X:
  156.               X:\OS2
  157.               X:  is drive where OS/2 resides (C:, D:, etc)
  158. 10) At command line type:
  159.          MAKEINI OS2.INI INI.RC (Press 'ENTER')
  160.          MAKEINI OS2SYS.INI INISYS.RC (Press 'ENTER')
  161. (If you are unable to access INI files, type following command:)
  162.          ATTRIB OS2*.INI -R
  163.     Then go back back and retry to MAKEINI as per above.
  164. 11) At command line use the attrib command to delete hidden file
  165.     WP ROOT.  SF in the OS2 startable partition.  At the command
  166.     line type:
  167.          ATTRIB C:\WP?ROOT.?SF -s -r -h
  168.          DEL C:\WP?ROOT.?SF
  169. 12) Re-boot computer by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL. This should
  170.     re-build desktop to current desktop by replacing corrupt
  171.     .INI's with new .INI's created with MAKEINI commands.
  172. 13) It is highly recommended to do an IMMEDIATE shutdown after
  173.     system is installed to make sure all programs and files have
  174.     been associated correctly.  Use system shutdown by clicking
  175.     with right mouse button on the desktop (*not on any icon*)
  176.     with shutdown option in the middle.
