  7.               AMI BIOS ON DISKETTE #1

  10.         DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
  11.         During installation of OS/2 2.x on OEM (Other Equipment
  12.         Manufacturers) machines with AMI BIOS, the system will
  13.         display two SYS error messages 02025 and 02027 after
  14.         inserting Disk 1.
  15.  
  16.         SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
  17.         1.  Make sure disk 1 is not bad.
  18.         2.  Check the AMI BIOS date and Keyboard Controller Chip
  19.             version. The date should be 5/9/91 and Controller Chip
  20.             version should be F.
  21.         3.  Ensure that there is not a hardware problem with the
  22.             Floppy Controller or Floppy Drive.
  23.  
  24.         DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
  25.         1.  Try booting with the Disks on another machine that is
  26.             already running OS/2 2.x.
  27.         2.  Machine must have BIOS dated 5/9/91 and keyboard
  28.             controller chip version KF.  The following information
  29.             will be seen by the user at (cold)boot time:

  31.         AMI BIOS and AMI BIOS Plus:
  32.         aaaa-bbbb-mmddyy-Kc
  33.  
  34.         AMI Hi-Flex BIOS:
  35.         ee-ffff-bbbbbb-gggggggg-mmddyy-hhhhhhhh-c
  36.  
  37.         If an IDE hard drive is in the system, "mmddyy" should
  38.         be 040990 or later.  For other drives including MFM,
  39.         RLL, ESDI, or SCSI, "mmddyy" should be 092588 or
  40.         later.  Controller chip version can be located on the
  41.         bottom of that same screen.  Check the last digit in
  42.         the long stream of digits (the "c" above).  The last
  43.         digit will probably be either be 8, B, D, or F.  The
  44.         required level should be F for OS/2 v2.x.
  45.         Pressing the INS key during bootup should cause this
  46.         information to stay on the screen.
  47.         If they are not up to date call Washburn & Co. to order a
  48.         new version.
  49.         3.  If the above two steps do not solve the problem have some
  50.             hardware diagnostics performed on the Floppy Controller
  51.             and Floppy Drive.

  59.         If floppy drives were switched, make sure the CMOS was updated to
  60.         reflect the change.  Setting CMOS correctly allows the install
  61.         without getting the sys02025 and sys02027.

  68.         This is different from OS/2 2.0 where it allowed you to install and
  69.         then asked for a nonexistent diskette 16 at the end.

  77.          1) Make backup copy of OS/2 2.1 Install diskette.

  83.             Copy OS2BOOT /* from original to backup */

  85.         Note that there is a tool available on the NSC BBS and Compuserve
  86.         that allows you to install OS/2 2.X from the B drive, when the B
  87.         drive is 3.5 and and A drive is 5.25 and the diskettes are 3.5.
  88.         This utility is called INST21L (if you have blue labels on your
  89.         disks) or INST21M (if you have salmon label on your disks).
