Wordperfect 5.2 Grammatik problems 3/13/93
From CompuServe
FILE: GMPROB.TXT 01/26/93 08:20
DATE: December 15, 1992
PRODUCT: WordPerfect 5.2 for Windows
SUBJECT: Troubleshooting Guide for Grammatik
1. After Grammatik has been installed, look for the following:
a. In the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, PATH should include the Grammatik
directory. For example C:\;C:\DOS;C:\WPWIN;C:\GMKW;... etc.
b. In the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, there should be a SET statement equating
GMKW5 to the full path of the Grammatik directory
For example: SET GMKW5=C:\GMKW
c. In the WPC.INI file, there should be a [WPWP-3rd] section. If this
section does not exist, create one. This section should include a
line giving the full path of the WPWPGM5.DLL file.
For example: GM5=C:\WPWIN\WPWPGM5.DLL
d. In the WIN.INI file, the [Extensions] section should include a line
referring to the Grammatik executable program file.
For example: PRF=GMKW.EXE ^.PRF (this line allows .PRF files to
associate with the Grammatik executable).
e. The Grammatik files should be in the directory referred to in steps
a and b above. For example: C:\WPWIN
f. The WPWPGM5.DLL file should be in the directory referred to in step
c above. For example: C:\WPWIN
2. Make sure that you have rebooted your computer after modifying the
AUTOEXEC.BAT file, and that you've re-entered Windows after modifying the
.INI files. There should be some text on the editing screen before
invoking Grammatik.
3. If the above steps do not work, try typing in the SET and PATH statements
at a DOS prompt outside Windows. PATH should only contain the root, DOS,
Windows, WPWin, and Grammatik directories -- e.g.
PATH C:\;C:\DOS;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WPWIN;C:\GMKW;
4. If typing the commands from the DOS prompt work, you might want to check
the PATH statement to make sure it's not too long (<126 bytes, a DOS
limitation). You can also try increasing the environment space. Insert
the command SHELL=C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM /P /E:512 (or 1024) into CONFIG.SYS
5. Also, check to see if all these files were installed in the Grammatik
directory:
COMMDLG.DLL GMKW.WPS GMK.DIC
GMK.PRF MORPROOF.DIC GMKHIST.OFY
GMKW.EXE RISHOOK.DLL GMKW.HLP
GMKWDUTL.EXE README.TXT TOUR.DOC
NOTE: Grammatik may not add all the correct changes if the following
conditions exist:
1. Installation was aborted by an error or by the customer
2. The environment is too small
3. Grammatik is not recognized in the path statement
4. The .SET file is not being recognized
6. Try re-installing Grammatik. Try booting vanilla before re-installing
Grammatik to make sure there are no TSRs conflicting with the
installation.
7. Try running Grammatik from the Grammatik icon.
8. Check the date of WPWin 5.2.
9. Check the version of Windows.
If, after all these have been tried, you still have difficulties, call WPCorp
Support. Before calling, have your license number ready, and a summary of all
the things (including the above) you've tried, as well as running a MSD report
run from DOS to a file so you can give the operator a full hardware/software
rundown.
