  11. Disable your Cache, Shadow Ram and Turbo.

  13. Video must be VGA Mode (640 x 480); Disable Autosensing and if
  14. possible, put your Video Card in an 8 bit slot or mode.

  16. Using a RESPONSE FILE to install OS/2 OS/2 2.1, 3.5 blue
  17. diskettes/CD
  18.  
  19. WARNING:  Make ALL install selections in response file BEFORE the
  20. installation.

  23. COPYING THE RESPONSE FILE TO DISK #1
  24. ____________________________________
  25.  
  26. The following is a list of the steps you would perform to modify
  27. a response file and then place that response file on a copy of
  28. disk #1.
  29.  
  30. This procedure requires UNPACK-ing compressed files.  To do this,
  31. copy UNPACK.EXE from Diskette #2 of the OS/2 package to your hard
  32. drive.  Any reference to UNPACK should be performed from the hard
  33. drive.
  34.  
  35. To copy the response file onto a diskette, you must make some
  36. modifications to disk #1.  These modifications make room on the
  37. diskette for the response file.
  38.  
  39.  
  40. 1. Make a copy of disk #1.  You will modify the copy only.
  41.  
  42.    DISKCOPY A:  A:  (to use the same drive as source and
  43.    destination) DISKCOPY A:  B:  (to use different drives as
  44.    source and destination)
  45.  
  46. 2. Make extra room on the copy of disk #1 by deleting files that
  47.    will not be needed in a response file installation.
  48.  
  49.    a. Delete the MOUSE.SYS file from the copy of disk #1
  50.  
  51.    b. Delete the BUNDLE file from the copy of disk #1 NOTE:  This
  52.       step is not necessary for CD-ROM installations.
  53.  
  54.    c. Delete the SYSINST2.EXE file from the copy of disk #1
  55.    d. If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a Micro Channel(*)
  56.       computer, delete the following file from your copy of disk
  57.       #1:
  58.                      DEL IBM1*.ADD
  59.  
  60.    e. If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a non-Micro Channel
  61.       computer, delete the following files from your copy of disk
  62.       #1:
  63.                      DEL IBM2*.ADD
  64.  
  65.    f. Edit the CONFIG.SYS that exists on the copy of diskette #1.
  66.       * Change the SET OS2_SHELL statement from:
  67.                SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE
  68.           to:
  69.                SET OS2_SHELL=RSPINST.EXE A:\OS2SE20.RSP
  70.  
  71.       * Delete the following statement:
  72.                DEVICE=\MOUSE.SYS
  73.  
  74.       * If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a Micro Channel
  75.         computer, delete the following statements in the
  76.         CONFIG.SYS file on the copy of disk #1.

  78.                BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD
  79.                BASEDEV=IBM1ADSK.ADD
  80.                BASEDEV=IBM1SCSI.ADD
  81.  
  82. 3. Make a copy of the SAMPLE.RSP file, located in a compressed
  83.    file named REQUIRED on disk #13 that has to be unpacked and
  84.    then copied to the copy of disk #1:
  85.                UNPACK A:\REQUIRED C:\ /N:SAMPLE.RSP
  86.    This will place the file in the root directory of the C:
  87.    drive.

  89. 4. Use an editor (such as the system editor) to modify and save
  90.    the file. The file contains comments that explain each of the
  91.    installation options.
  92.  
  93. 5. Copy the modified response file to the copy you made of disk
  94.    #1.  Use the name OS2SE20.RSP when you copy the file:
  95.  
  96.           example:  COPY C:\SAMPLE.RSP A:\OS2SE20.RSP
  97.  
  98. 6. Copy the RSPINST.EXE File, located in a compressed file named
  99.    REQUIRED on disk #7 that has to be unpacked and then copied to
  100.    your copy of disk #1:
  101.  
  102.                UNPACK A:\REQUIRED C:\ /N:RSPINST.EXE
  103.  
  104.    This will place the file in the root directory of your
  105.    C:drive.
  106.  
  107. 7. Begin the installation of the workstation by inserting the
  108.    installation diskette and restarting the system.
  109.  
  110. 8. When prompted for disk #1, insert the modified copy of disk #1
  111.    and press enter.  From this point, the installation program
  112.    will ask only for the insertion of diskettes.  No other
  113.    installation actions will be necessary.

  115.    NOTE:  When prompted to insert disk #1 again, insert the
  116.           original disk #1 into drive a:
  117.  
  118. Response files can be used to install the same set of options on
  119. multiple workstations.  Ensure that the workstations are set up
  120. with the same set of options and hardware.
