  7.     Installing the Boot Manager, OS/2 2.1 and One Additional
  8.                       Operating System
  9.

  11. In this example, an existing primary partition of 60MB (which
  12. takes up the entire hard disk space) is deleted and replaced by:
  13. o A 1MB Boot Manager partition o A 4 MB primary partition, in
  14. which DOS 4.0, 5.0 or 6.1 will be installed.  o A 55MB logical
  15. drive, in which OS/2 2.1 will be installed.

  18. 1. Back up any data you want to save from the existing partition.
  19.    (Use the BACKUP command from your existing operating system.)
  20.  
  21. 2. Insert the Installation Diskette, restart your system, and
  22.    follow the instructions on the screen until the Installation
  23.    Drive Selection screen is displayed.
  24.  
  25. 3. From the Installation Drive Selection screen, start the FDISK
  26.    program by selecting option 2, "Specify a different drive or
  27.    partition".
  28.  
  29. 4. Delete the existing partition (which you have Backed Up):
  30.    a. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  31.    b. Select DELETE Partition and press Enter.
  32.  
  33. 5. Create the Boot Manager partition and install the Boot
  34.    Manager:
  35.    a. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  36.    b. Select INSTALL BOOT MANAGER and press Enter.
  37.    c. Select Create at Start of Free Space and press Enter.

  39. 6. Create the DOS 4.0, 5.0 or 6.1 partition:
  40.    a. Highlight the FREE SPACE line.
  41.    b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  42.    c. Select CREATE Partition and press Enter.
  43.    d. Type the size of the primary partition (in this example,4)
  44.       and press Enter.
  45.    e. Select PRIMARY Partition and press Enter.
  46.    f. Select Create at Start of Free Space and press Enter.
  47.    g. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  48.    h. Select ADD to Boot Manager menu and press Enter.
  49.    i. Type DOS and press Enter.

  51. 7. Create the OS/2 Version 2.1 logical drive:
  52.    a. Highlight the Free Space line.
  53.    b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  54.    c. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  55.    d. Accept the size of the extended logical drive (55 in this
  56.       example) by pressing Enter.
  57.    e. Select Extended Logical Drive and press Enter.
  58. NOTE:  If you have entered a number smaller than 55 for the size
  59.    of the logical drive, you would also have to select from
  60.    Create at Start of Free Space or Create at End Free Space.
  61.    f. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  62.    g. Select Add to Boot Manager menu and press Enter.
  63.    h. Type OS/2 2.1 and press Enter.

  65. 8. Set up OS/2 Version 2.1 as the default:
  66.    a. Highlight the OS/2 2.1 line.
  67.    b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  68.    c. Select Set Startup Values and press Enter.
  69.    d. Select Default and press Enter.
  70.    e. Press F3.

  72. 9. Indicate which partition should be used for the OS/2 2.1
  73.    installation:
  74.    a. Highlight the OS/2 2.1 line.
  75.    b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  76.    c. Select Set Installable and press Enter.

  78. 10.  Exit FDISK:
  79.    a. Press F3 to exit FDISK.
  80.    b. Select Save and Exit and press Enter.

  82. 11.  Finish the installation of OS/2 2.1.
  83.  
  84. 12.  When OS/2 installation is completed, begin the installation
  85.      of DOS by inserting the DOS installation diskette.  Then,
  86.      press and hold Ctrl+Alt, and press Del to restart the
  87.      system.
