S3 Common Problems
After installing SVGA support system boots to a black screen
with a blinking cursor.
DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
Systems will boot to a black screen with a blinking cursor if
there is a hardware conflict or if the the most recent S3 drivers
are not being used.
SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
1. Verify that there are no IRQ or I/O conflicts between the
video adapter and other devices.
2. Make sure that the most recent S3 drivers are in use.
DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
1. Verify that no device is using IRQ 2 or I/O address 02E8.
IRQ 2 is normally used by devices such as Token
Ring adapters, and network cards. I/O address 02E8 is
revered for com4.
2. Make sure that the most recent drivers are in use:
OS/2 for windows - S3-16M drivers
2.11 - drivers provided with the package
12/31/99
