  11. Problems printing from OS/2 ? Check the Basics
  12.  
  13.   If you are having problems printing to your network printer,
  14.   first check the way the printer was set up on your OS/2 desktop.
  15.   You should set up a printer on your desktop for the printer you
  16.   regularly use.  A local printer icon is recommended.
  17.  
  18.   The procedure for setting up workstation printing in OS/2
  19.   is performed from NetWare Tools for OS/2 and assumes that
  20.   you are already logged in to your file server.  See the
  21.   Workstation Basics and Installation Document, Chapter 7.

  23.     o Choose the Novell icon from the desktop.
  24.     o Choose the NetWare Tools icon from the Novell Icon view
  25.       window on your desk top.
  26.     o Choose the Tools menu in the upper menu bar.
  27.     o Choose Printer Ports
  28.  
  29.   The Printers window appears and a Printers option appears
  30.   in the menu bar.
  31.  
  32.     o Choose a port by double clicking on it.
  33.  
  34.   A capture window appears.
  35.  
  36.     o Highlight a print queue name in the Printers/Queue list.
  37.     o Press the Capture button.
  38.  
  39.   If the print queue you want to capture does not appear in the
  40.   Printers/Queue list, check to see if you are first attached to
  41.   the server containing this resource.  Choose Server from the
  42.   Tools option to see the connected servers.
  43.  
  44.   For more information about this tool, choose Help.

  46.   If you print from OS/2 and get garbage, the problem may be
  47.   that you are using the wrong printer driver.

  50.   format to Capture a printer port from the command line.

  54. Problems printing from a DOS session? Check the Basics
  55.  
  56.   If you have problems printing from a DOS session, first
  57.   verify that printing through OS/2 is working.
  58.  
  59.     o Always load LPTDD.SYS.  This can be done from each individual
  60.       DOS session by putting
  61.  
  62.        <drive>&colon.\OS2\MDOS\LPTDD.SYS
  63.  
  64.       in the DOS_DEVICE section of the DOS SETTINGS Notebook.
  65.       This can also be done for all sessions by putting
  66.  
  67.        DEVICE=<drive>&colon.\OS2\MDOS\LPTDD.SYS
  68.  
  69.       in the CONFIG.SYS.
  70.  
  71.     o Make sure the OS/2 spooler is enabled.  This is done by default
  72.       when you install a printer on the Workplace Shell.  It can also
  73.       be enabled and disabled from the settings for Spooler in the
  74.       System Setup menu.
  75.  
  76.   If you have a global session, capture from OS/2.  If you have a
  77.   private session, use capture within this DOS session.
  78.  
  79.   For example:
  80.     o Map to the public directory
  81.     o Enter CAPTURE? on the command line and you are given the
  82.       options for using CAPTURE.
  83.     o Enter the CAPTURE command with options to capture the
  84.       printer port you want.
  85.

  87.   page 49, of the Novell Print Server manual.

  94. Unable to print from WIN-OS/2 applications
  95.  
  96.   If you have problems printing from a WIN-OS/2 session,
  97.   first verify that printing through OS/2 is working.
  98.  
  99.   If you are having problems printing from WIN-OS/2, check
  100.   the way the printer is set up in WIN-OS/2 by following the
  101.   steps below.

  103.   If you print from WIN-OS/2 and get garbage but can print
  104.   from OS/2, it is likely the printer is not set up right
  105.   in WIN-OS/2.
  106.  
  107.   If you have a global session, set up the capture from
  108.   OS/2; if you have a private session, set up the capture
  109.   from your private session
  110.  
  111.   Before you start the set up for a WIN-OS/2 session make sure
  112.   that you have loaded LPTDD.SYS by checking the
  113.   following procedures:
  114.  
  115.     o Load LPTDD.SYS.  This can be done from each individual
  116.       DOS session by putting
  117.  
  118.        <drive>&colon.\OS2\MDOS\LPTDD.SYS
  119.  
  120.     in the DOS_DEVICE section of the DOS SETTINGS Notebook.
  121.     This can also be done for all sessions by putting
  122.  
  123.        DEVICE=<drive>&colon.\OS2\MDOS\LPTDD.SYS
  124.  
  125.     in the CONFIG.SYS.
  126.  
  127.   Set up printing for WIN-OS/2 by performing the functions below:
  128.  
  129.   If the setup for WIN-OS/2 is seamless, that is, if it is
  130.   executed by double clicking on an object from the desktop
  131.   or in a folder, then migrate Program Manager by:
  132.  
  133.     o Opening the System Folder, then
  134.     o Open the System Setup window
  135.     o Select Migrate Applications
  136.     o Click on Windows Programs and pick the drive letter
  137.       with WIN-OS/2 installed
  138.     o De-select the applications you do not want on your desktop
  139.  
  140.   When you press the Migrate button the program will add a folder
  141.   for WIN-OS/2 Groups and WIN-OS/2 Programs.
  142.  
  143.     o Open a WIN-OS/2 session
  144.     o Open a WIN-OS/2 main
  145.     o Open the Control Panel
  146.     o Click on the Printers object
  147.  
  148.   From the Installed Printers list pick
  149.     o LPT1.OS2, LPT2.OS2, or LPT3.OS2
  150.  
  151.   If the printers do not show up on the list:
  152.     o Edit the WIN.INI file and look in the portsU section.
  153.       In the portsU section, you should have three printer
  154.       port entries that look like the following:
  155.        LPT1.OS2=
  156.        LPT2.OS2=
  157.        LPT3.OS2=
  158.       Type the printer ports in and save the file.
  159.  
  160.     o Go back into the WIN-OS/2 Control Panel
  161.     o Add them to the port section
  162.     o Select a port to print to
  163.  
  164.   Before you exit:
  165.     o Disable the print manager by clicking on the small box
  166.       and removing the "X"
  167.  
  168.     o Go to the application you are trying to print from
  169.       and make sure that printing there is properly set up.
