TITLE
Installation and setup of the National Semi Conductor Tyin 2000
modem, fax, message card.
DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS
1. Cannot access data modem in OS2 but can under real DOS.
2. Cannot access fax modem in OS2 but can under real DOS.
3. Cannot access messaging portion of card in OS2 but can under
real DOS.
4. Fax works, but pages are lost.
5. When using phone message portion a General Protection Error
occurs..

1. Verify and check the hardware setup and make all necessary
changes.
2. Software Installation.

DETAILS OF RESOLUTION
1. Analyze the hardware in the computer and determine an unused
com port; i.e., com1, com2, etc.
2. Determine an unused IRQ level; i.e., IRQ3, IRQ4, IRQ5, etc.
3. Set the appropriate switch settings on the TYIN2000 circuit
card.
4. *** DO NOT INSTALL THE CARD AT THIS TIME.
5. Use the Migrate utility (that comes with OS/2 2.1) to migrate
the Program Manager to the OS/2 desktop.
6. With the mouse button 2 click on the icon and select DOS
settings from the dialog box. A DOS Settings Notebook will be
displayed.
7. Select the session tab on the Notebook.
8. Activate the Win-OS/2 button and then select the following
settings.
WIN_RUN_MODE = 3.1 ENHANCED
****IF GENERAL PROTECTION errors occur, use standard mode*****
WIN_CLIPBOARD = ON
COM_DIRECT_ACCESS = OFF
COM_SELECT = ALL
DOS_FILES = ON
DOS_HIGH = ON
DOS_UMB = ON
DOS_AUTOEXEC = C:\TYIN.BAT
HW_ROM_TO_RAM = ON
HW_TIMER = ON
9. Save then select the General tab, in the name field enter
TYIN.BAT. Exit Notebook.
10. Open an OS/2 prompt and type EPM c:\config.sys at the c:\
prompt.
11. Scroll down to "DEVICE = C:\OS2\COM.SYS.
12. Refer to page 378 of " Using the Operating System Manual",
and enter the appropriate parameters for the hardware selections
made earlier.
13. Start the program manager Icon.
14. From the Program Manager File Menu, select Run. Insert the
TYIN2000 installation disk 1 of 2. and type "x:\install", where
x = the drive being used. Hit enter and follow the installation
prompts provided by the TYIN2000 software.
15. Allow the installation program to update the AUTOEXEC.BAT.
16. For FAX MGR options setup see the TYIN2000 "Getting Started"
booklet.
17. From the file manager rename the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to
TYIN.BAT.
18. Rename the AUTOEXEC.BAK to AUTOEXEC.BAT.
19. Using an editor, open the TYIN.BAT file and remark out all
statements except:
"TYINLD.BAT"
20. Change directory to x:\TYIN and open the file TYINLD.BAT
with an editor. Locate the line
" @C:\TYIN\LOADTYIN C:|TYIN\tyin.bin COMx IRQx 240"
21. Replace the COMx with the com port selected on the card,
i.e.; COM3.
22. Replace the IRQx with the IRQ level selected earlier; i.e.,
COM3.
23. Save file and exit the editor. Shut down OS/2.
24. Power off computer (remove plug from power) and observe safe
ESD procedures.
25. Carefully install the TYIN2000 card in an empty slot (use a
16 bit slot ).
26. Start computer. Start Tyin Icon. TYIN is now ready to use.
27. Use NSD's documentation for setting up the applications.
LIMITATIONS
The scanner is untested.
