  1. ATI Mach8 setup, for emul. of IBM 8514           8/24/93
  2.  
  3. Setting up adapters with the MACH8 chipset to emulate the 8514, using
  4. the IBM 8514 drivers
  5.  
  6. Video Cards with the MACH8 Chipset
  7.  
  8.         ATI Ultra
  9.         ATI Graphics Vantage
  10.         ATI 8514 Ultra
  11.  
  12. Summary for setting up the Adapter
  13.  
  14.     1.  Setup the ATI Mach8 Card to emulate the 8514 video adapter
  15.         Select the monitor type as Custom and set the resolutions as
  16.         follows
  17.         a.   640x480  - Setup
  18.         b.   800x600  - NON-SUPORTED (This is not supported!!!)
  19.         c.  1024x768  - Setup
  20.         d.  1280x1024 - NON-SUPORTED (This is not supported!!!)
  21.     2.  Test video card
  22.     3.  Check system information, for 1MB of VRAM
  23.     4.  Installation of OS/2
  24.         Install as a VGA system, then Selective install 8514.
  25.     * Note: DO NOT run SVGA ON, it does not apply to this adapter!!!
  26.             If the SVGADATA.PMI file exists delete it!!!!
  27.     * Note: Monitor must be capable of the higher refresh rates.
  28.             Check monitor specifications, to be sure
  29.  
  30. Details for setting up the Adapter
  31.  
  32.     1.  Setup the ATI Mach8 Card to emulate the 8514 video adapter
  33.         a.  Boot off of a DOS diskette, with no memory management
  34.             programs
  35.         c.  Place the ATI installation diskette in the computer
  36.         d.  Change to the Drive
  37.             Type A: then press Enter (where 'A' is the drive the disk
  38.             is in)
  39.         e.  Type INSTALL then press Enter
  40.         f.  Select POWER UP CONFIGURATION
  41.         g.  Select MONITOR TYPE
  42.         h.  Select CUSTOM
  43.             * Take note of the Warning
  44.             1)  Select 640X480
  45.                 a.  IBM Default / 60 Hz (whichever is present)
  46.             2)  Select 800x600
  47.                 a.  Select "NON-SUPPORTED"
  48.             3)  Select 1024x768
  49.                 a.  Select Highest refresh rate the monitor can handle
  50.                 *   For refresh rates, check the monitor
  51.                     specifications
  52.                 b.  If, there are no monitor specifications.
  53.                     1)  A good starting point is 72Hz
  54.                     2)  Select the desired refresh rate (72Hz)
  55.                     3)  Adjust the screen via the instructions on
  56.                         the screen
  57.                     * If you can not see the screen press ESC. to
  58.                       return, and select different refreash rate.
  59.                     * The possible refresh rates are 72Hz, 70Hz, 60Hz
  60.                       NonInterlaced, 87.5Hz Interlaced)
  61.                     4)  Continue until the screen is, as desired
  62.             4)  Select 1280x1024
  63.                 a.  Select "NON-SUPPORTED"
  64.         i.  Press ESC,  Hit "Y" to save changes
  65.         j.  Press F10 to save the changes, monitor will flicker while
  66.             programming the EPROM.
  67.         k.  Shutdown system then turn system off.  Restart system.
  68.     2.  ESC until the main menu, Select UTILITIES
  69.         a.  Select system information
  70.             1)  Check for 1MB or 1.5MB of video memory.
  71.             2)  Press ESC
  72.         b.  Select TEST
  73.             1)  Select RUN ALL TESTS
  74.             2)  Select JUST ONCE, for number of times to run tests
  75.     3.  Shutdown system then turn system off.  Restart system.
  76.     4.  Installation of OS/2
  77.         Install as a VGA system, then Selective Install 8514
  78.     * Note: DO NOT run SVGA ON, it does not apply to this adapter!!!
  79.             If the SVGADATA.PMI file exists delete it!!!!
  80.     8.  If the system is setup improperly. Or is not in the 8514 mode
  81.         a.  Do a selective installation of VGA support, then
  82.         b.  Do a selective installation of 8514 if the higher
  83.             resolution is desired, and supported (at least 1MB of VRAM
  84.             and a monitor which will support the higher resolution).
  85.     * Note: Monitor must be capable of the higher refresh rates.
