OS2KRLDR ERROR MESSAGES SYS2026,SYS2028,SYS3146
PLEASE READ ENTIRE DOCUMENT FOR FULL EXPLANATION OF PROCEDURES

ERROR MESSAGES: SYS2026 OS2LDR CANNOT BE FOUND
SYS2028 OS2KRNL CANNOT BE FOUND
SYS3146 OS2LDR.MSG CANNOT BE FOUND
----------------------------------------------------------------
These are hidden system files and need to reside in the root
directory of the drive where OS/2 resides or is started.
The error messages may appear separately or with a SYS2027.
Error message SYS2027 is to restart your system.
1. If you are installing it is possible that one or more of the
files may not have copied to hard drive.
2. It is recommended to copy the file or files necessary up to
the hard drive as they may have become corrupted. If OS/2 has
been installed and you receive the error messages, it is
suggested to run CHKDSK before copying files up to hard drive.
INSTRUCTIONS TO RUN CHKDSK:
1. Perform shutdown, if you're unable to shutdown, turn off
system for 30 seconds, put Installation Disk in drive A:
2. Turn on computer, or press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart system.
3. When prompted, remove Installation Disk and insert Disk 1.
4. Press ENTER.
5. When the WELCOME SCREEN is displayed, press ESC, to display
command prompt, A:
6. Remove Disk 1 and insert Disk 2 (contains CHKDSK command)
7. To correct errors on hard drive, type appropriate CHKDSK
command followed by the drive on which OS/2 resides.
(X: denotes drive where OS/2 resides...C:, D:, etc.)
If your drive is formatted for FAT file system, type:
CHKDSK X: /F
If your drive is formatted for HPFS file system, type:
CHKDSK X: /F:2
If you installed from CD, you will be dropped off at CD
drive in DISK_1 subdirectory, change to DISK_2 subdir.
X:\OS2SE21\DISK_2
(X: is the CD ROM drive)
8. Press ENTER and the CHKDSK command will start.
NOTE: If you have any error/s, run the CHKDSK command
repeatedly until ALL errors are cleared up.
Then continue with steps listed below to copy up
files to the hard drive. You do not need to reboot
at this point.
Listed below are the procedures for copying files up to hard
drive.
If OS/2 is already installed and you receive any of the error
messages, it is recommended to run CHKDSK, first.
If you receive the error message while installing, copy
the files up (CHKDSK is not necessary).
Whenever you see X: (X: drive where OS/2 resides, C:, D:, etc)
ERROR MESSAGE SYS2026 OS2LDR CANNOT BE FOUND
Error message occurs while installing. It is not necessary to
run CHKDSK. However, follow steps 1 - 5 of CHKDSK procedure to
get to a command prompt.
1. Follow steps 1 - 5 to get to a command prompt from floppies.
2. Remove diskette #1 and insert Installation Diskette.
3. At the A:> Type,
COPY OS2LDR X:\ and press <ENTER>
4. If you get no other error message, remove diskette and reboot
NOTE: If you get error message SYS2028 or SYS3146, DO NOT
REBOOT; instead copy the files up as follows:
COPY OS2LDR.MSG X:\ and press <ENTER>
COPY OS2KRNL X:\ and press <ENTER>
Then remove diskette and reboot system.
ERROR MESSAGE SYS2028 OS2KRNL CANNOT BE FOUND
Error message occurs while installing. It is not necessary to
run CHKDSK. However, follow steps 1 - 5 of CHKDSK procedure to
get to a command prompt.
1. Follow steps 1 - 5 to get to a command prompt from floppies.
2. Remove diskette #1 and insert Installation Diskette.
3. At the A:> Type,
COPY OS2KRNL and press <ENTER>
4. If you get no other error message, remove diskette and reboot.
NOTE: If you get error message SYS2026 or SYS3146, DO NOT
REBOOT; instead copy the files up as follows:
COPY OS2LDR X:\ and press <ENTER>
COPY OS2LDR.MSG X:\ and press <ENTER>
Then remove diskette and reboot system.
ERROR MESSAGE SYS3146 CANNOT BE FOUND
Error message occurs while installing. It is not necessary to
run CHKDSK. However, follow steps 1 - 5 of CHKDSK procedure to
get to a command prompt.
1. Follow steps 1 - 5 to get to a command prompt from floppies.
2. Remove diskette #1 and insert Installation Diskette.
3. At the A:> Type,
COPY OS2LDR.MSG X:\ and press <ENTER>
4. If you get no other error message, remove diskette and reboot.
NOTE: If you get error message SYS2026 or SYS2028, DO NOT
reboot, instead copy the files up as follows:
COPY OS2LDR X:\ and press <ENTER>
COPY OS2KRNL X:\ and press <ENTER>
Then remove diskette and reboot system.
FOR ERROR MESSAGES IF OS/2 IS ALREADY INSTALLED
OS/2 is already installed and you receive one or more of the
following error messages:
SYS2026
SYS2028
SYS3146
Any of these error messages can be followed by SYS2027, which
means to restart your system.
1. Follow the CHKDSK procedure first.
2. Follow steps above for error message you receive.
EXAMPLES: If you receive SYS2026
A. Run CHKDSK as per above
B. Follow instructions for SYS2026 error message
