  1. How to correct corrupt SETUP.INI     (CP 3/25/94

  3. OS2SETUP.FAX                        CORRUPTED SETUP.INF FILE
  4.  
  5. SYMPTON: Customer is installing OS/2 for Windows and will get a
  6.          RED SCREEN or RED BOX with error message "OPEN FILE
  7.          ERROR" in the install.log.
  8.  
  9.  
  10. RESOLUTION: Customer has corrupted file, SETUP.INF, and will
  11.             need to copy it into the Windows 3.1
  12.                WINDOWS\SYSTEM     subdirectory
  13.  
  14.  
  15. WORKAROUND:
  16.  
  17. 1.   Go to Windows 3.1 subdirectory:
  18.  
  19. 2.   At the prompt:  CD\WINDOWS\SYSTEM   <enter>
  20.  
  21.      (You should be in the WINDOWS\SYSTEMS subdirectory)
  22.  
  23. 3.   Type: REN SETUP.INF SETUP.OLD  <enter>
  24.  
  25. 4.   Put in Windows 3.1 Diskette #1
  26.  
  27. 5.   Type A:  <enter>
  28.  
  29. 6.   At the A:>  copy SETUP.INF X:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  30.  
  31.        (X:  the drive where Windows 3.1 resides)
  32.  
  33. 7.   Remove the diskette.
  34.  
  35. 8.   Try Installation again.
