  25. Note:  These drivers can be found on diskette #8 in a file
  26. called DASDDRVS.  The above drivers can be unpacked with
  27. the following command:
  28.         UNPACK A: DASDDRVS  OS2 /N:xxxxxxxx.ADD
  29.  
  30. Add the following statement in the CONFIG.SYS:
  31.         BASEDEV=xxxxxxxx.ADD
  32.  
  33. Once these steps are taken, reboot the machine to initiate
  34. the appropriate support.

  39. Following are a number of notes about usage, and
  40. about potential compatibility problems with the
  41. microcode levels on various adapters and devices.
  42.  
  43.  Adapter:  All Adaptec adapters
  44.  Note:     SCSI hard disks must be configured as SCSI target
  45.            ID 0 or 1 to be able to start up from that hard
  46.            disk.
  47.  
  48.  Drive:    IBM 0661 - 320MB SCSI
  49.  Note:     Adapter BIOS will not recognize the drive as
  50.            Target 0 or 1 (Drives 80, 81).  For OS/2 2.0, the
  51.            drive can be used as a non-startup drive.
  52.  
  53.  Adapter:  Adaptec AHA-174x
  54.  Drive:    IBM WDS-3180 - 80MB SCSI, IBM WDS-3160
  55.            - 160MB SCSI
  56.  Note:     Adapter will not recognize these drives when
  57.            configured in 'STANDARD MODE' (AHA-154x
  58.            emulation).  Instead, the AHA-174x adapter should
  59.            be configured in 'ENHANCED MODE'. This mode is
  60.            supported by the OS/2 2.0 drivers, and the
  61.            problem does not occur when the adapter is
  62.            operating in enhanced mode.

  64.  Adapter:  Future Domain TMC-850/860/875/885 w/BIOS revision
  65.            level 7.0.
  66.            Future Domain TMC-1660/1670/1680 w/BIOS revision
  67.            level 2.0.
  68.  System:   IBM Models 35 and 40 when the Future Domain
  69.            adapter is controlling the startup diskette.
  70.  Note:     Will produce the message, "Disk read error has
  71.            occurred" when you attempt to start the
  72.            Installation diskette.
  73.            Contact Future Domain for a free BIOS upgrade.

  75. AMI SCSI Adapters
  76.  
  77.  Symptom:
  78.          AMI "Fast Disk" and AMI "Fast Disk II" SCSI
  79.          adapters are incorrectly recognized as Adaptec
  80.          adapters.
  81.  Problem:
  82.          At the final restart after the installation is
  83.          complete, delete from the CONFIG.SYS file, any
  84.          line with "BASEDEV=AHA1xxx.ADD" (where "x" can
  85.          be any character). Ensure the line,
  86.          "BASEDEV=IBMINT13.I13," appears in the CONFIG.SYS
  87.          file.

  90. Problems with Always IN2000 SCSI adapter
  91.  
  92.          Internal Processing Error.
  93.          Symptoms of the problem are varied, but the most
  94.          common is an FDISK error on the second diskette.
  95.  Problem:
  96.          Bios adapter with bad bios.  Bios level of 3.06A
  97.          or 3.20 should be upgraded.  The current BIOS level
  98.          is VCN:1-02 and works with OS/2 v2.0.
  99.  Resolution:
  100.          Upgrade to current BIOS level of VCN:1-02.  Also,
  101.          Always IN 2000 SCSI Host Adapters may require an
  102.          EPROM upgrade from Always for $20 to operate with
  103.        V2.0. The revision level should be 2.5-2.7.
  104.          Always suggests installing the EPROMS and
  105.          re-formatting the drive - seem to be some problems
  106.          installing over DOS partitions.  Always can be
  107.          reached at 818-597-9595.

  111.  Notes:
  112.         44 and 89MB drives will work if connected to any
  113.         other SCSI card other than Bernoulli's own card.
  114.         The drive will work as a large diskette and will be
  115.         non-bootable.
  116.  
  117.  PROCOMM+ SCSI MCA adapters do not work
  118.  
  119.  Resolution:
  120.          Contact PROCOMM for details on OS/2 support.
  121.  
  122.  Slow SCSI support or missing icons
  123.  
  124.  Symptom:
  125.          Slow hard drive speeds and possibly no icons
  126.          appearing.  Other data corruption possible.
  127.  Problem:
  128.          Hard drive and adapter card settings not
  129.          correctly matched.
  130.  Resolution:
  131.          Ensure that hard drive and card are matched in
  132.          their settings of SYNCH and ASYNCH mode.
  133.  
  134.  IBM 16-bit SCSI cards(early versions)
  135.  
  136.          Early versions of the IBM 16-bit SCSI adapters
  137.          may experience problems and report erroneously that
  138.          the device is not functioning.
  139.  Resolution:
  140.          Replace SCSI card with a card with updated microcode.
  141.  
  142.  Quantam Plus Hardcard
  143.  
  144.  Symptom:
  145.          Numerous failures under 1.3 and 2.0.
  146.  Problem:
  147.          Microcode lower than 2.6 will cause numerous
  148.          failures under 2.0.  Also, drive cannot be second
  149.          disk if installation will take place on the hard
  150.          card drive.
  151.  Resolution:
  152.          Call Quantum about EPROM upgrades.
  153.  
  154. Other SCSI hints
  155. ----------------
  156. Some SCSI card have jumper pins which can be set to either
  157. Synchronous or Asynchronous mode. There have been noted
  158. problems such as no icons appearing or slow hard disk
  159. performance. This can be attributed to the SCSI card and
  160. hard disk not being set to the same asynch or synch
  161. settings. Either way, they must match. Be sure these are set
  162. properly.

  164. The early versions of the IBM 16-bit SCSI adapters may
  165. experience problems and report erroneously that the device
  166. is not functioning.  This can be corrected by replacing the
  167. SCSI card with a card with updated microcode.
