  6.         During the installation of OS/2 2.1 the process hangs after the
  7.         first reboot, (DISK #5).
  8. ==================================================================

  10.         SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
  11.         Workaround is to reinstall OS/2 2.1 using a Response file.
  12.  
  13.         DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
  14.  
  15.         WARNING:  All installation selections must be made in the Response
  16.                   file BEFORE the installation begins.
  17.  
  18.         1.  Copying the Response file to Diskette #1.
  19.                 a.  To copy the response file onto a diskette,
  20.                     you must make some modifications to Diskette 1.
  21.                     These modifications make room on the diskette
  22.                     for the response file.
  23.                 b.  Make a copy of Diskette #1.  You will modify
  24.                     the copy.(Ex. DISKCOPY A: B:)
  25.                 c.  Make extra room on the copy of Diskette #1
  26.                     by deleting files that will not be needed
  27.                     in a response file installation:
  28.             1)  Delete the MOUSE.SYS file from the copy of Diskette 1.
  29.             2)  Delete the SYSINST2.EXE file from the copy of
  30.                  Diskette #1.
  31.             3)  Delete the BUNDLE file from the copy of Diskette #1.
  32.             4)  If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a Micro Channel(*)
  33.                 computer, delete the following file from your copy of
  34.                 Diskette #1:
  35.                 DEL IBM1*.ADD
  36.             5)  If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a non-Micro Channel
  37.                 computer, delete the following files from your copy of
  38.                 Diskette #1:
  39.                 DEL IBM2*.ADD
  40.                 DEL *02.SYS
  41.  
  42.                 d.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file that exists on
  43.                     the copy of Diskette #1.
  44.             1)  Change the SET OS2_SHELL statement
  45.                 from: SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE
  46.                 to: SET OS2_SHELL=RSPINST.EXE A:\OS2SE21.RSP
  47.             2)  Delete the following statement:
  48.                 DEVICE=\MOUSE.SYS
  49.             3)  If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a Micro Channel
  50.                 computer, delete the following statements from the
  51.                 CONFIG.SYS file on your copy of Diskette #1:
  52.                 BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD
  53.                 BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD
  54.             4)  If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a non-Micro Channel
  55.                 computer, delete the following statements from the
  56.                 CONFIG.SYS file on your copy of Diskette #1:
  57.                 BASEDEV=IBM2FLPY.ADD
  58.                 BASEDEV=IBM2ADSK.ADD
  59.                 BASEDEV=IBM2SCSI.ADD
  60.                 e.  Unpack the SAMPLE.RSP from disk#13, This file is in
  61.                     directory REQUIRED.

  68.            UNPACK A:REQUIRED /N:SAMPLE.RSP) to the copy of diskette #1.

  70.                 f.  Use an editor (such as the System Editor) to modify and
  71.                     save the file.  The file contains comments that explain
  72.                     each of the installation options.(Default setting has
  73.                     worked fine in all cases)
  74.                 g.  Copy the modified response file to the copy you made of
  75.                     Diskette #1.  Use the name OS2SE21.RSP when you copy
  76.                     the file.
  77.              EX. COPY SAMPLE.RSP A:OS2SE21.RSP
  78.                 h.  Copy the RSPINST.EXE file (located in DISK#7 under
  79.                     directory REQUIRED
  80.                 UNPACK A:REQUIRED /N:RSPINST.EXE)
  81.                     to the copy of Diskette #1.
  82.         2.  Begin the installation of the workstation by inserting the
  83.             Installation Diskette and restarting the system.
  84.         3.  When prompted for Diskette #1, insert the
  85.             modified copy of Diskette #1, and press Enter.
  86.         4.  From this point, the installation program will
  87.             prompt only for the insertion of diskettes.  No
  88.             other installation screens will appear.
  89.         5.  When prompted to insert Diskette #1
  90.             again, insert the original copy of Diskette #1.

  92.         NOTE:  This procedure can be used to install the same
  93.                set of options on multiple workstations.  Using
  94.                a response file, you can make sure that a group
  95.                of workstations is set up with the same set of
  96.                options and HARDWARE
