  33. |Problem: - Communications Manager will not load
  34. |           Token-Ring driver
  35. |         - Message: ACS0111  (CM message: Main CM Menu)
  36. |                    LT00050  (Lan Transport: in LANTRAN.LOG)
  37. |         - Error: Type 0017 00000002 ALERT 3EF789B7
  38. |         - Duplicate address appears to be returned by the
  39. |           network, although there is not a duplicate address.
  40. |           this is caused by a device (S/W or H/W)
  41. |           probably echoing back the address.
  42. |         - A duplicate address is present on the ring.
  43. |
  44. |Solution: Resolve the duplicate address.
  45. |
  46. |Suggestions:
  47. |         1. Change the T/R address to insure it is unique.
  48. |         2. Find the duplicate address:
  49. |            -ask the IBM Account Team to use OS2PING from the
  50. |             IBM tools disks or
  51. |            -use a LAN manager program to query the adapter
  52. |             address or
  53. |            -use a sniffer trace
  54. |         3. Try adding "NETFLAGS = 0x0100" after the link
  55. |            statement in the PROTOCOL.INI file. The NETFLAGS
  56. |            parameter is a circumvention until the S/W or H/W
  57. |            that is incorrectly echoing or incorrectly
  58. |            sending a duplicate address can be identified
  59. |            and corrected.  After the S/W or H/W (bridge,
  60. |            router, etc.) is found and corrected, then
  61. |            the parameter should be removed to allow Lan
  62. |            Transport to continue checking for the error of
  63. |            a duplicate address.

  66. |Problem: - Communications Manager gets TRAP 000D Indicating
  67. |           the PROTMAN$ driver as originator
  68. |         - Message: TRAP 000D ORIGINATOR: PROTMAN$
  69. |
  70. |         - If the  TOKEN  entry found under the MAC SECTION
  71. |           DEFINITION of the PROTOCOL.INI file is BLANK or
  72. |           contains a NULL a TRAP 000D will occur.
  73. |           (EVEN IF THE  TOKEN ENTRY  IS NOT BEING USED)
  74. |SOLUTION:
  75. |         1. Add a value on the line below the  TOKEN  entry
  76. |            found under the MAC SECTION DEFINITION.

  90. | There are 3 XID frames sent out at initialization time
  91. | requesting a response by any adapter having the same
  92. | address as the local adapter.  If another adapter has this
  93. | address as well, it will respond by sending its own XID frame.
  94. |
  95. | This test for LANDD.OS2 (CM ES 1.0 LAPS) will cross
  96. | all bridges in the network, unlike LANDD.SYS (CM EE 1.3)
  97. | which tests only locally.
  98. |
  99. | There is a wait period of 1.5 seconds for the
  100. | responses to arrive.  After this time, if more than
  101. | the original 3 XID frames for this address have been
  102. | received, then the assumption is made that a
  103. | duplicate address has been detected.  In some cases,
  104. | a bridge in diagnostic mode, or one not functioning
  105. | properly will echo these XID frames back to the
  106. | network causing extra frames to arrive at the
  107. | initializing adapter, and a false indication of a duplicate
  108. | address will occur.

  110. | NETBIOS does not have a similar test, which can cause
  111. | failures later if a duplicate address exists on the network.
