H/W param changes on LANSteamer and Ethe 2/25/94..
Hardware Parameter Changes (Version 1.0)
The following instructions are to be used to change the customer's
hardware configuration parameters from the Hardware Reference Utility.
These instructions apply to the adapters listed here:
IBM LANStreamer (TM) MC 32
IBM LANStreamer (TM) MC 16
IBM EtherStreamer (TM) MC 32
---------------------------------------------------------------------
ALL PS/2 systems
----------------
Step 1) Shutdown the system according to your normal procedure.
(OS/2 reminder - use 'shutdown' function)
Place the reference diskette in the 'A' drive of the system.
Then, re-boot from the reference diskette.
(On some models the system can be re-booted from the
system partition on the hard drive. While the system is
booting, look for the cursor on the display to be in the
upper right corner of the screen. During that time, hold
the CTL and ALT keys while pressing the INSERT key.
this feature available on 8590, 8595, 9577, 9585, 9595)
Step 2) Hit the 'Enter' key when the logo screen appears
Step 3) Select "Set Configuration" from the initial menu.
You can move the highlighted selection bar with the up
and down arrow keys, and hit the 'enter' key when the
correct line is highlighted.
OR
You can select an entry by typing the number of the item.
Step 4) Select "Change Configuration" from this second menu.
Step 5) Use the 'up arrow' and 'down arrow' cursor keys to
scroll through all of the installed features and adapters.
For each adapter listed in the configuration,
Write down (in Step 10a on the Worksheet):
- The name of the adapter
- Arbitration level (if any)
- DMA Channel (if any)
- Fairness setting (if any)
- Streaming Data setting (if any)
- Token Ring Data rate (for LANStreamer only)
Step 6) First raise the Arbitration Level of the other adapters.
(DMA Channel and Arbitration level are the same in this context)
- Move the highlighted bar (using the up or down arrow keys)
until it highlights each Arbitration Level" or "DMA Channel"
selection that needs to be changed.
Use PF5/PF6 to scroll through the available settings for this
adapter. Select the high enough value to place this
adapter higher than all of the Streamer adapters Then press
'enter' to save this selection.
Do this for each feature or adapter that has either an
Arbitration Level, or a DMA Level.
(Some devices will not allow their arbitration level
to be changed, this is OK, leave them as they are.)
NOTE: Two devices cannot 'share' an arbitration/DMA level. If
two devices are set to the same level, this will be
indicated by an asterisk (*) and a message in the upper
right corner of the screen.
Conflicts will need to be eliminated to create a valid
configuration. In resolving conflicts always set the
Streamer adapters to the lowest possible value, while moving
other adapters to higher levels.
Step 7) For each EtherStreamer, or LANStreamer adapter, use the
same process to select and change the Arbitration Level.
But, this time set the Arbitration Level to the lowest
available number.
(ie., '1' = top priority, '15' = 'F' = bottom priority)
Step 8) For each EtherStreamer, or LANStreamer set the Fairness/Streaming
field. (two separate fields for Etherstreamer.)
- For model 9585 systems:
Fairness OFF/Streaming OFF
- For all other models:
Fairness OFF/Streaming ON
Step 9) Press 'PF10' to save the results of this session, and leave
this screen when these steps are completed.
Step 10) Press 'PF3' to exit the 'Change Configuration' menu
Step 11) Press 'PF3' to exit the 'Set Configuration' menu
Step 12) Remove the reference diskette from the 'A' drive.
(If the diskette was used)
Step 13) Press 'PF3' to exit the 'Main' menu
Step 14) Press the 'Enter' key to confirm that you want to exit these
utilities and re-boot the system with these new settings.
