DOS file spools but doesn't print. No EOF 1/12/94
DOS APPLICATION FILE WITHOUT END-OF-FILE CHARACTER
WILL NOT PRINT
DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
A file sent to print from a DOS application and shown as
spooling on the print server does not print.
Some applications do not send an end-of-file character, so
the print spooler can interpret the end of the print stream.
SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
If a file sent to print does not have an end-of-file character,
the user must provide an end-of-file workaround or change the
application.
DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
To print a file which does not have an end-of-file character, do
one of the following:
1. Ctrl/Alt/*: This key sequence forces an end of
data stream to the spooler and the file should print.
2. Shell to DOS: If the application has this function, then
shell to DOS forces an end of data stream to the spooler.
3. COPY NUL:>LPTx: The .BAT file from the domain controller
which runs the application may be modified with this COPY
command. The file which is not closed at the end of the
application will print. Add the following statement after
the CALL to run the application:
COPY NUL:>LPTx
