OS2CNTRY.FAX COUNTRY.SYS ERROR MESSAGE
Refer to Installation Guide, page 122, for COUNTRY.SYS error.
Refer to Installation Guide, pages 134/135 to Recover CONFIG.SYS
****************************************************************
Error message COUNTRY.SYS cannot be found:
- message on diskette #1 when redirecting drives
- after installing OS/2 and specific line/s are ignored
- during the installation of OS/2
- incorrect path statement or device not recognized by OS/2
- message when you boot up after OS/2 has been running
****************************************************************
Customer has redirected his drives for installing OS/2 and
receives the COUNTRY.SYS on diskette #1.
To redirect drives from B: to A: customer may change his CMOS
or BIOS setup and switch cables on the floppy drives.
For COUNTRY.SYS error message on diskette #1 while redirecting:
Check cables to verify if there are correctly switched
Check the CMOS for necessary changes for switching drives
If problems or questions occur while doing this, CONTACT THE
VENDOR of the system.
****************************************************************
For specific lines being ignored after the installation:
1) Check the line and it will usually relate to device driver
that is not being recognized. Be sure if you have added the
driver yourself that it is the latest driver available.
Check to ensure that it is in the config.sys and OS2
subdirectory or proper subdirectory.
2) If you have a statement with a driver that is NOT needed,
you can REM it out in the CONFIG.SYS.
****************************************************************
COUNTRY.SYS cannot be found while installing OS/2:
1) If you have a device hooked up such as a tape backup,
modem, scanner, network card (Ethernet, etc..) or any
additional device it is recommended DURING INSTALLATION
to disconnect them.
2) Diskette drive or hard disk drive controller might not
reside at its own IRQ level. OS/2 does NOT share IRQ
levels. If you have any IRQ conflict it is possible to
receive COUNTRY.SYS error message. If you have a sound
card, check the IRQ as it will usually be in conflict
with your printer. Refer to Using the Operating System,
page 375 for IRQ levels.
3) If you have DOS with compressed files or double spaced, you
will receive the COUNTRY.SYS error message. It is
recommended to install OS/2 on another partition.
4) If you have an OEM system (non-IBM or IBM compatible)
disable the following features:
Turbo, Cache, Shadow RAM (Packard Bell need not disable)
Be sure your video is in VGA mode, 640 X 480 resolutions,
8 bit slot, and autosensing disabled (if capable)
If you are NOT using an ADAPTEC driver, check to see that
it is deleted in the CONFIG.SYS on diskette #1.
Disconnect all devices such as tape drives, network cards,
scanners, modems, etc....
If you still cannot install and are hanging anytime before
disk 5 or restart, make a DISKCOPY of Disk 1 and edit
the CONFIG.SYS on Disk 1, and REM IBM1S506.ADD. (This
will use IBMINT13.I13 driver. (DOS editor can be used)
After installation completes, go into CONFIG.SYS on
Disk 1 and root dir, un-REM IBM1S506.ADD. Statement
should read, BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD to CONFIG.SYS and
driver is present in the OS2\ subdirectory. Once, OS/2
is installed, you can use E editor, from an OS/2 window
or boot down to command prompt using Installation Disk,
Disk 1, press ESC at WELCOME SCREEN, and you will get
command prompt, (X: is where OS/2 resides, C:,D:, etc)
Type: X:\ <enter>
E CONFIG.SYS <enter> (make appropriate change)
Save and Exit
Enable ALL feature and devices after installation completes.
****************************************************************
For COUNTRY.SYS error upon the final reboot:
1) Check your config.sys to be sure that you have a drive
letter so that the paths statements are recognized.
Examples to check are listed:
EX: where X:\ is drive where OS/2 resides
SET USER_INI=X:\OS2\OS2.INI
SET SYSTEM_INI=X:\OS2\OS2SYS.INI
(No duplicate statements should exist.
Delete or REM out the extra set or statement.)
LIBPATH=X\.......... will have a long statement
PATH=X:\............ will have a long statement
DPATH=X:\........... will have a long statement
All DEVICE and RUN statement begin with drive letter:
DEVICE=X:\OS2\.......statement will continue
RUN=X:\..............statement will continue
If above statements appear will drive letter where OS/2
resides then your config.sys will most likely have correct
drive letters assignments.
2) Check the config.sys for ALL your device statements that
devices are listed for each device.
****************************************************************
For COUNTRY.SYS cannot be found when booting up to OS/2, which
has been previously running fine:
1) Refer to Installation Guide, page 134 & 135 for the
instructions on Recovering the CONFIG.SYS file.
2) If you have recently installed a new or different device,
recover the CONFIG.SYS as per above. Check the device for
the correct and latest driver for OS/2, if necessary call
the vendor a for possible update or necessary parameters.
