SPEEDSTAR PRO W/ CIRRUS LOGIC 5428 6/06/94
TITLE: DIAMOND SPEEDSTAR PRO W/ CIRRUS LOGIC 5428 CHIPSET HAS
PROBLEM LOADING OUR OS/2 2.1 GENERIC SVGA DRIVERS.
DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
Selective install or dspinstl for svga fails. OS2 will not
properly identify the chipset.
SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
1. Download the latest s3-16m.dsk file from the BBS. It is on
the IBM BBS, CompuServe, and the internet.
2. Follow the README and run s3inst.exe.
3. Shutdown the system and reboot.
4. Refer to page 114 of the install guide to run DSPINSTL.
5. OS2 should now properly identify the chipset as a cirrus logic
5428.
NOTE: Do not change the chipset selection to s3. You are not
using the s3 drivers only the KRNL patch provided by the
package. THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO XR06200 CODE AND ABOVE.
6. If you are downloading from the BBS, get LDF.COM as well and
do the following:
a. In an OS/2 session type "LDF.COM S3-16M.DSK"(his will extract
loaddskf.exe).
b. Then type "LOADDSKF S3-16M.DSK A:" and insert a formatted high
density diskette in floppy drive A:
c. As per README file, do S3INSTL and shut down and re-boot the
system.
d. Follow instruction on page 114 of the install guide for
"dspinstl". The cirrus logic chip should now be
identified(not s3).
