  10.         Make ALL install selections in response file BEFORE the
  11.         installation.

  15.         COPYING THE RESPONSE FILE TO DISK #1
  16.  
  17.         ____________________________________

  19.         The following is a list of the steps you would perform to modify
  20.         a response file and then place that response file on a copy of
  21.         disk #1.
  22.  
  23.         This procedure requires UNPACKing compressed files.  To do this,
  24.         copy UNPACK.EXE from Diskette #2 of the OS/2 package to your hard
  25.         drive.  Any reference to UNPACK should be performed from the hard drive.
  26.  
  27.         To copy the response file onto a diskette, you must make some
  28.         modifications to disk #1. These modifications make room on the
  29.         diskette for the response file.
  30.  
  31.         1.)     Make a copy of disk #1. You will modify the copy only.
  32.  
  33.         DISKCOPY A: A: (to use the same drive as source and destination)
  34.  
  35.         DISKCOPY A: B: (to use different drives as source and destination)
  36.  
  37.         2.)     Make extra room on the copy of disk #1 by deleting files
  38.                 that will not be needed in a response file installation.
  39.  
  40.         a.) Delete the MOUSE.SYS file from the copy of disk #1
  41.  
  42.         b.) Delete the BUNDLE file from the copy of disk #1
  43.  
  44.            NOTE:  This step is not necessary for CD-ROM installations.
  45.  
  46.         c.) Delete the SYSINST2.EXE file from the copy of disk #1
  47.  
  48.         d.) If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a Micro Channel(*)
  49.             computer, delete the following file from your copy
  50.             of disk #1:
  51.  
  52.         DEL IBM1*.ADD
  53.  
  54.         e.) If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a non-Micro Channel
  55.             computer, delete the following files from your copy
  56.             of disk #1:
  57.  
  58.         DEL IBM2*.ADD
  59.  
  60.         f.) Edit the CONFIG.SYS that exists on the copy of diskette #1.

  68.         1.) Change the SET OS2_SHELL statement from:

  70.          SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE
  71.  
  72.          to:

  74.          SET OS2_SHELL=RSPINST.EXE A:\OS2SE20.RSP

  77.         2.) Delete the following statement:

  79.          DEVICE=\MOUSE.SYS
  80.  
  81.         3.) If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a Micro Channel
  82.             computer, delete the following statements in the CONFIG.SYS
  83.             file on the copy of disk #1.

  85.          BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD
  86.  
  87.          BASEDEV=IBM1ADSK.ADD
  88.  
  89.          BASEDEV=IBM1SCSI.ADD
  90.  
  91.         3.)   Make a copy of the SAMPLE.RSP file, located in a
  92.               compressed file named REQUIRED on disk #13 that has
  93.               to be unpacked and then copied to the copy of disk #1:
  94.  
  95.         UNPACK A:\REQUIRED C:\ /N:SAMPLE.RSP
  96.  
  97.         This will place the file in the root directory of the C:
  98.         drive.
  99.  
  100.         4.)   Use an editor (such as the system editor) to modify and
  101.               save the file. The file contains comments that explain each
  102.               of the installation options.
  103.  
  104.         5.)   Copy the modified response file to the copy you made of
  105.               disk #1.
  106.  
  107.         Use the name OS2SE20.RSP when you copy the file:
  108.  
  109.         Example: COPY C:\SAMPLE.RSP A:\OS2SE20.RSP
  110.  
  111.         6.)   Copy the RSPINST.EXE File, located in a compressed file
  112.               named REQUIRED on disk #7 that has to be unpacked and then
  113.               copied to your copy of disk #1:
  114.

  116.         UNPACK A:\REQUIRED C:\ /N:RSPINST.EXE
  117.

  119.         This will place the file in the root directory of your C:
  120.         drive.

  127.         7.)   Begin the installation of the workstation by inserting the
  128.               installation diskette and restarting the system.
  129.  
  130.  
  131.         8.)   When prompted for disk #1, insert the modified copy of
  132.               disk #1 and press enter. From this point, the installation
  133.               program will ask only for the insertion of diskettes.  No
  134.               other installation actions will be necessary.

  138.         NOTE: When prompted to insert disk #1 again, insert the original
  139.                 disk #1 into drive a:
  140.  
  141.

  143.         Response files can be used to install the same set of options on
  144.         multiple workstations.  Ensure that the workstations are set up
  145.         with the same set of options and hardware.
