OS2SMP - REVISED OS/2 FOR SMP SUPPORT PROCEDURES
10/19/94
================================================================
REVISED OS/2 FOR SMP SUPPORT PROCEDURES
================================================================
Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedure
----------------------------------------------------------------
Support for OS/2 SMP is expanded to included all hardware
claiming to be MPS 1.1 or Intel 1.1 compliant.
----------------------------------------------------------------
OS/2 for SMP was tested to run on all the hardware listed on the
package box. OS/2 for SMP should also run on any hardware
compliant with the MPS 1.1 or Intel 1.1 specification (standard).
- If the hardware claims to be MPS 1.1 or Intel 1.1 compliant,
OS/2 for SMP is supported on that hardware. The problem needs
to be investigated - business as usual.
- If the customer wants to return OS/2 For SMP, because of
problems that cannot be resolved, for example: change team
cannot correct with code, hardware is not compliant with MPS
1.1 or Intel 1.1, code change required but is not in current
future release, etc..
The customer can take their receipt to the dealer
where they purchased OS/2 For SMP.
The customer can call the IBM General Information
number (1-800-426-3333), if they purchased OS/2 For SMP
more than 30 days ago, and ask about getting a refund.
General OS/2 for SMP Process Information:
----------------------------------------------------------------
OS/2 for SMP PMRs should only enter at Level 2. Socrates
determines the correct Level 2 input queue and forwards the PMR
to that location. OS/2 for SMP should go to one of following
queues: Disk, Dosap, Hngtr, Instl, Mkbcm, MMPM, Other, OS2OEM,
Print, Video, Winap, Wpshl.
OS/2 for SMP runs in uni-process and multi-processor mode.
Switching an OS/2 for SMP multi-processor mode environment
to a uni-processor mode can be done by remming out the
Platform Specific Driver (PSD=) statement in the CONFIG.SYS and
restarting the system. For example the Proliant has the following
statement in the CONFIG.SYS: PSD=PROLIANT.PSD.
This information helps when performing PD/PSI on a particular
OS/2 for SMP reported problem. If the problem is unique to
multi-process or uni-processor mode, this information helps
determine if the failure is related to the OEM hardware, or
the OS/2 for SMP code.
