TO REDIRECT YOUR DRIVES:
A tool is available on the IBM PCC BBS and Compuserve
that lets you install OS/2 2.X from the B drive, when
the B drive is 3.5, and A drive is 5.25, and the diskettes
are 3.5. The utility is called:
INST21L for diskettes with blue labels
INST21M for diskettes with salmon labels
CD-ROM INSTALLATION:
If you are installing with a CD ROM, see the OS/2 documentation
for additional information. If CD-ROM or adapter,
is NOT listed, you may need to obtain device drivers specific for
OS/2. Call the vendor for drivers you need and continue with
instructions in Installation Guide, page xviii, for adding the
drivers to the Diskette 1 and CONFIG.SYS.
If you have the device drivers for CD-ROM and adapter, refer to
page xviii of Installation Guide. If you need more space on
Diskette 1, delete the following files:
Make a DISKCOPY of Diskette 1 first and use the COPY.
DEL IBM2.* and press Enter. For Non-Micro Channel Systems
DEL IBM1.* and press Enter. For Micro Channel Systems
For most OEM, it is recommended you disable following features:
Turbo
Cache
Shadow rom
These features are usually found in BIOS. If you have any
questions regarding these features, contact the vendor.
After installation these features can be ENABLED.
(Packard Bell systems do NOT need to disable above features.)
When installing OS/2, your VIDEO needs to be in VGA mode. If it
is not, it is recommended VIDEO be set to VGA mode as listed:
VGA mode
8 bit slot or mode, if possible
640 X 480 resolutions
Autosensing disable, if adapter has capability
If you are having difficulty with the installation and have
additional devices such as tape backup, network card, scanner,
it is recommended to disconnect devices during installation.
BIOS should be fairly recent. The recommended dates are:
AMI BIOS Recommended date is 5/91
Phoenix or Award BIOS Recommended date is 5/92
If you need an upgrade you can contact the vendor.
When installation completes, enable and reconnect the devices and
features disconnected during installation. If your VIDEO has
capability of higher resolution, you can review your adapter's
information in the OS/2 documentation. If you have problems with
the VIDEO it is recommended you FIRST call the vendor, to check
to see if you have the latest driver.
