  11.         FOR: IBM OS/2 ver 2.1 and "OS/2 for Windows"

  15.         The driver set consists of the following disk:
  16.  
  17.         - Display Driver Diskette 1 (volume label DISP 1)
  18.         - Display Driver Diskette 2 (volume label DISP 2)
  19.  
  20.         
  21.         INSTALLATION:
  22.         -------------
  23.                                                          
  24.         The OS/2 installation procedure is as follows:
  25.  
  26.         1- Under OS/2 desktop select icon: OS/2 System and then
  27.            icon: Command Prompts.
  28.  
  29.         2- Select OS/2 or DOS Window (either Desktop or FullScreen).
  30.            
  31.         3- Insert the driver diskette 1 into the floppy drive. (e.g. drive A:)
  32.  
  33.         4- Run INSTALL.BAT or INSTALL.CMD.  (e.g. if the floppy drive
  34.            is A: and OS/2 is installed on C: then type "A:\install a c")
  35.            For help on INSTALL.BAT, just type "A:\install".
  36.            This will load necessary files needed for OS/2 installation on 
  37.            the hard disk.
  38.  
  39.  
  40.            Steps 1-4 are required only for the first time installation of
  41.            Avance Logic drivers. On subsequent installation of drivers
  42.            you may skip the steps 1-4.
  43.  
  44.         5- On OS/2 window (under Command Prompt) run DSPINSTL.
  45.  
  46.         6- Select "Primary Display" and click on "OK".
  47.  
  48.         7- Select "Avance Logic, Inc." in the driver selection menu.
  49.  
  50.         8- Select "Install Using Defaults for Monitor Type" in the
  51.            menu "Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility".
  52.  
  53.         9- User will be prompted for Video Refresh Rate Selection Menu.  If
  54.            you are not sure about the monitor, select "NO".  Selecting
  55.            wrong refresh rate not supported by monitor could hang OS/2
  56.            system and you may be required to load the OS/2 system all 
  57.            over again.  If you select "YES", utility: AScanOS2 is invoked
  58.            which will present the available scan rates.  If you are still
  59.            not sure about which scan rates to choose, select the lowest
  60.            scan rates in each of the four columns.  For information on
  61.            AScanOS2 read Help provided in the program.
  62.  
  63.        10- Select desired display resolution.
  64.  
  65.        11- Use Disks: Display Driver Diskettes 1 and 2 when prompted.

  69.         NOTE:
  70.         -----
  71.  
  72.         - Please note the volume label of "Display Driver Diskettes" are
  73.           "DISP 1" and "DISP 2", respectively.  If you make copies of these 
  74.           disks, make sure you give correct volume labels.  (Use 
  75.           DOS command "LABEL" to change the volume label of a disk.)
  76.  
  77.         - Close all Windows Seamless and FullScreen applications before
  78.           you use DSPINSTL.
  79.  
  80.         - To change resolution of the installed drivers or to change 
  81.           the refresh rate of the video screen, it is necessary to
  82.           perform the installation steps 5-11 as stated above.
  83.         
  84.         - If you are installing Avance Logic's GUIEngine/ALG2101 board, it is
  85.           possible that during installation the display becomes monochrome.
  86.           This problem will only occur because of incorrect installation
  87.           of the drivers.  The remedy is to shutdown the system and perform
  88.           all the installation steps as stated above. 
  89.  
  90.         - Under OS/2 desktop, if you are running Windows Seamless session
  91.           it is possible that the shades of colors may change in the 
  92.           OS/2 desktop.  This may happen because of palette change and it
  93.           is quite O.K.  To refresh the screen click mouse on OS/2 desktop
  94.           with Button 2 (just like you do the system shutdown) and choose
  95.           menu item "Refresh Now".  This will refresh the OS/2 desktop
  96.           with correct color shades.  However, this will not correct any
  97.           palette problem for applications running under Windows Seamless.
  98.  
  99.         - While installing Avance Logic, Inc. SVGA drivers, you may get
  100.           a message saying "...target file SETM.EXE is newer than the
  101.           source file...Select O.K. to overwrite...".  On this message 
  102.           select "OK".
  103.

  106.         
  107.         
  108.         DE-INSTALLING DISPLAY DRIVERS:
  109.         ------------------------------
  110.  
  111.         - It is important to note that you must de-install Avance Logic, Inc.
  112.           drivers and load SVGA (Super VGA) drivers before you change the
  113.           video board on the system.  To change to SVGA drivers follow the
  114.           following steps.
  115.  
  116.         - If you want to remove Avance Logic, Inc. display drivers, 
  117.           follow steps 5-11 and select "Super VGA (SVGA)" instead of
  118.           "Avance Logic, Inc." when prompted at step 7.  Use IBM's OS/2 
  119.           original disks during this installation.  During this
  120.           installation you may get a message saying "... File BVHSVGA
  121.           is newer than source file ...".  Press O.K. to this dialogue 
  122.           box.  It is not necessary to perform shutdown at this point. 
  123.           
  124.           Open either DOS or OS/2 window.  Insert Avance Logic's driver 
  125.           diskette 1 in the floppy drive and run "DEINSTAL".  For instance, 
  126.           if OS/2 has been installed on drive C then type: "A:\deinstal c".  
  127.           This will restore the original files changed during installation 
  128.           of Avance Logic drivers.  For help on "DEINSTAL" just type
  129.           "A:\deinstal".
  130.  
  131.           Perform system shutdown now, for the changes to take effect.
  132.  
  133.           Please note that if your copy of OS/2 is on CD-ROM, make copies
  134.           of "Display Driver Diskettes" from CD-ROM to floppy disks before 
  135.           you perform the de-installation steps as you need the said disks.
  136.           Check OS/2 user manual for instructions as to how to make copies
  137.           of OS/2 diskettes from CD-ROM to floppy disks.

  143.         PENDING ISSUES: 
  144.         ---------------
  145.  
  146.         The following issues have been found in IBM OS/2 2.1:
  147.         
  148.         - On screen resolution of 1024x768x256colors, under Windows session
  149.           if you open "Color" ("Control Panel") you may not get
  150.           correct "Custom Color Selector".  This has been observed in
  151.           video boards by other manufacturers.  
  152.  
  153.         - A GPF error occurs when running Windows Benchmark program, 
  154.           "WINTACH", under Windows Seamless session.  This had also been
  155.           observed in video boards by other manufacturers.
  156.  
  157.         - If "Advanced Tests" are performed on Windows Benchmark program,
  158.           "WINBENCH ver 3.11", running under Windows Seamless session then
  159.           sometimes portion of screen under dialogue boxes and pull-down
  160.           menus gets blank-out.  This error has also been observed in 
  161.           other video boards and does not occur in Windows FullScreen session
  162.           of OS/2.
