  4. Installation
  5. ------------
  6. Place RAFIX.COM in any directory you like.
  7.  
  8. Usage
  9. -----
  10. Run RAFIX each time before you run Red Alert.  Assuming your CD-ROM drive is
  11. D:, you may use the enclosed RAOS2.BAT file.  I recommend you close the DOS 
  12. window that you run RAFIX in after you are finished playing.  It is a TSR
  13. program and has not been tested with other applications so it may cause
  14. problems.  When you start RA.EXE make sure you use the -CDx: parameter where
  15. x is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.

  17. Setting up an OS/2 DOS Fullscreen session for Red Alert
  18. -------------------------------------------------------
  19. Set DOS_HIGH to On to give RA some extra conventional memory.
  20. Set DPMI_DOS_API to enabled
  21. Set DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT to 64.
  22. Set HW_TIMER to On.
  23. Set INT_DURING_IO to On.
  24. Set VIDEO_MODE_RESTRICTION to NONE.

  26. Null-Modem Multiplayer May Not Work
  27. -----------------------------------
  28. On some systems if you choose to start a null-modem multiplayer game, Red
  29. Alert crashes.  Sorry, I'm not going to fix this.  This problem is not
  30. related to the RAFIX.COM program.

  33. -----
  34. Command & Conquer Red Alert works great in OS/2 but if you love the game, you
  35. have to play the add-on packs.  The add-on packs offer several new missions
  36. each, include many multiplayer maps, and improve the game's features in a 
  37. number of areas.  Unfortunately the add-ons don't work in OS/2, they can't 
  38. find the CD-ROM drive.  Talking to Westwood's support got the standard response
  39. "we don't support OS/2" so I decided to try and fix things myself.

  41. RAFIX is a small DOS TSR program that fixes the OS/2 DOS box so that it
  42. operates exactly like MS-DOS does in one circumstance.  This program does 
  43. nothing to any Westwood files, it is not a patch.  This program DOES NOT 
  44. disable Red Alert's copy protection in any way, you still need to purchase
  45. the program and use the CD's to play Red Alert.

  47. This program is not sanctioned or supported by Westwood, so please don't
  48. bother them about it, you'll probably just get me in trouble.

  50. This program was tested on OS/2 Warp 4.0 and OS/2 Warp 4.0 with fixpack 5.
