  6. The InCharge installation program sets up the system for use under OS/2. It 
  7. will unpack the distribution files and place them in a directory of your choice 
  8. which it will create if not currently in existance. The installation program 
  9. will place the InC icon on the OS/2 desk top so that you may quickly and easily 
  10. access the program. The CONFIG.SYS file will be modified so that the program 
  11. can find its documentation files and data files.

  13. The first step in using the installation program is to enter the source and 
  14. destination drive/paths and select whether you want the installation program to 
  15. modify the CONFIG.SYS file and place the InC icon on the desk top. After you 
  16. have made your choices, click on the Install button and the actual installation 
  17. process will start. You may follow the installation progress via the progress 
  18. guage. When the installation is complete you will be notified by a message 
  19. indicating whether or not you need to re-boot the system for the changes to the 
  20. CONFIG.SYS file to take effect.

  22. If an error occurs during the installation, an error message will be displayed 
  23. with directions on how to correct the problem.

  30. When installing an update to InCharge downloaded from our Internet home page or 
  31. Compuserve, you must have a subscription key. This key is obtainable only 
  32. directly from Spitfire Software and is based on your registration number. 
  33.  
  34. A subscription key costs $20 for a six month subscription period and enables 
  35. you to install all updates released during that period (average 1 update every 
  36. 3-4 weeks). If you do not have a key call Spitfire Software at 404-257-0187 and 
  37. get yours today. You can also get one via e-mail sent to "landeck@onramp.net". 
  38. Be sure to include you InCharge registration number, Visa/Master Card number, 
  39. and expiration date.

  41. The current subscription period is November 1, 1996 through April 30, 1997.

  48. The source drive/path field displays the location you are installing from. This 
  49. field is read only and is the path installation progam.

  56. The destination drive/path entry field enables you to specify the loaction 
  57. where the InC program and data files are to be installed. The default loaction 
  58. is the directory INCHARGE on the OS/2 boot drive. If you wish to install to a 
  59. different drive or directory enter the destination in its entry field.

  66. If you want to be able to start In Charge from the OS/2 command line with the 
  67. current directory being other than the In Charge program directory, OS/2 needs 
  68. to know the location of the In Charge program file and In Charge needs to know 
  69. the location of its documentation files. The information is determined from the 
  70. environment PATH and HELP variables. The installation program will update these 
  71. variables for you if you wish. The installation program checks the current 
  72. definitions of the variables to insure no redundant entries are made.

  74. When installing future InCharge upgrades, the installation program checks the 
  75. environment PATH to find where you originally installed InCharge. If it finds 
  76. it on the PATH, that directory becomes the default directory for installation. 
  77. Therefore it is highly recommended that you allow the installation program to 
  78. update the CONFIG.SYS file for the initial install.

  80. Before modifying the current CONFIG.SYS file, the installation program backs it 
  81. up to CONFIG.SFF. Therefore, if you do have a problem with the installation, 
  82. you can recover your original CONFIG.SYS file.

  89. It is your option whether or not InC adds its folder and icon to the OS/2 
  90. desktop. By adding it to the desktop you are able to access InCharge quickly 
  91. and easily. If you are installing an upgrade and the InCharge folder is on the 
  92. desktop, you should check this option so that any new programs in the upgrade 
  93. are added to the folder.

  95. If you have already installed InC on the desktop and try to again, you may get 
  96. a warning message indiacting that the icon was previously installed. You can 
  97. ignor the message or delete the current icon from the desktop and re-install 
  98. InC.

  105. This function enables you to re-create the In Charge folder and program icons 
  106. if they have been lost. It requires that you set the destination directory to 
  107. the directory containing an installed version of In Charge.

  109. Clicking on the Make Folder button will result in the install program testing 
  110. for the existance of the folder and each program icon, re-creating any that are 
  111. missing.

  118. To remove either the standard or demo version of In Charge from your system, do 
  119. the following:

  121.  1. Start the Installation program from the In Charge folder. Select and 
  122.     execute the Erase INI function. Exit the Installation program.

  124.  2. Delete the In Charge folder and all of its contents from the desktop. 
  125.  
  126.  3. Delete the In Charge program directory and its subdirectories.

  128.  4. If you have installed the standard version of In Charge and selected to 
  129.     update the CONFIG.SYS file, you should delete the entries in the PATH and 
  130.     HELP variables that point to the In Charge program directory. Use any text 
  131.     editor for this operation.

  138. The Serial # button enables you to set or reset the serial/registration number 
  139. of the installed copy of InCharge.

  146. Enter the product identification or serial number for your copy of InCharge. If 
  147. you are installing from diskettes in the shrink wrapped package, you will find 
  148. this on the first installation diskette. If you are installing the electronic 
  149. distribution version of InCharge, it was provided to you via e-mail when you 
  150. ordered InCharge.

  157. The Demo Version of InCharge allows only one set of books to be used (the 
  158. SAMPDATA books) and today's date is hard set to Septemer 15, 1993. All other 
  159. functions are enabled. The SAMPDATA books have a complete set of test data so 
  160. that you can try reports, post tranactions, run queries, etc. but can not use 
  161. it in a production mode.

  163. In order to convert a Demo Version to a Registered Version you need a 
  164. serial/registration number and a subscription key. The subscription key enables 
  165. you to install updates to InCharge released in the current subscription period. 
  166. To obtain a serial/registration number and subscription key call Spitfire 
  167. Software at 404-257-0187 or send an e-mail to landeck@onramp.net. The cost of a 
  168. serial/registration number and subscription key is $79.00.  You can also order 
  169. the complete shrink wrapped boxed version of InCharge including printed manual 
  170. by contacting Spitfire Software at the same number as above.
