I found that the S3 drivers for the 864 DRAM boards have a bug in
which a DOS session will "lose" the mouse when a windowed DOS session
is switched full screen, or a full screen DOS session is switched to a
windowed session and back. I found this bug in the Diamond Stealth 64
DRAM drivers V1.01 and V1.02, as well as the S3 corp V2.2 OS/2 drivers
under OS/2 2.11.
Quite by accident I discovered the problem lies in the VSVGA.SYS file
which normally resides in the \OS2\MDOS directory. I found that if
I replaced the VSVGA.SYS file from the Diamond or S3 drivers with the
one that is included in the IBM S3 64K drivers (10/29/93). Included
in this archive is VSVGA.SYS from the IBM S3-64K drivers.
Personally, I used the Stealth 64 DRAM OS/2 drivers V1.02, but other
S3-864 drivers should work (as far as I know, all of the S3-864
OS/2 2.11 drivers have this mouse bug. If the S3-964 based boards
also have this problem, this fix may work for them as well.). After
your S3-864 drivers are installed, simply rename the existing VSVGA.SYS
in your \OS2\MDOS to VSVGA.SAV (just in case this does not work :-)).
Copy the VSVGA.SYS from this archive to the \OS2\MDOS directory and
then shutdown and reboot.
This works on my system (486 VLB MB with a Diamond Stealth 64 DRAM 2MB)
at the following resolutions: 800x600x64K, 1024x768x256, and 1024x768x64K.
I could not test 1152x882x256 because I could not get the sync rates
to work properly on my system. It should work at other resolutions, but
I did not test them.
This is released to the public domian, i.e. its free. It took me a while
to get the Stealth 64 DRAM working with OS/2 2.11 and felt I should pass
on what I discovered. I am curious about how well this works. If you
get this working or your system please email me. If you can't, and
your question is simple, I will try to answer it. I make no promises
that this will work on your system.
