IBM Token-Ring MAC Driver for Symmetrical Multi Processing (SMP) Architecture
This file contains information about IBM Token-Ring Multi Processing
(IBMTOKMP.OS2, version M.2.02) NDIS driver for Symmetrical Multi Processing
(SMP) systems.
DIFFERENCES WITH THE IBM TOKEN-RING (IBMTOK.OS2) NDIS DRIVER
The IBMTOKMP.OS2 NDIS driver for Symmetrical Multi Processing (SMP)
systems, version M.2.02, is the same driver as the IBM Token-Ring (IBMTOK.OS2)
NDIS driver except for changes that have been made to specifically work on SMP
architectural systems. The primary code difference between the two MAC drivers
is the IBMTOKMP.OS2 driver does not directly manipulate the SMP's Programmable
Interrupt Controller (PIC) to mask interrupts as does the IBMTOK.OS2 NDIS
driver.
IBMTOKMP.OS2 NDIS DRIVER RESTRICTIONS
The following restrictions apply to the IBMTOKMP.OS2 NDIS driver for SMP
systems:
1. The IBMTOKMP.OS2 driver is only supported on SMP systems.
2. The IBMTOK.OS2 driver is not supported on SMP systems.
3. NO interrupt sharing is allowed with the IBMTOKMP.OS2 driver.
NOTE: Testing has shown that IRQ 2, IRQ 7, and IRQ 9 are commonly
shared interrupts. IRQ 2 and IRQ 9 are the cascade interrupt.
IRQ 7 is shared by the OS/2 parallel port device driver.
These interrupts have been found to cause various LAN problems
with the IBMTOKMP.OS2 device driver.
