The enclosed package contains the following:
1. SNMPNEW.TXT
This file that explains contents of package.
2. New ISODEDLL.DLL
Copy this file to tcpip\DLL\ISODEDLL.DLL
3. New SNMP.EXE
Copy this file to tcpip\BIN\SNMP.EXE
4. New SNMPGRP.EXE and new SNMPTRAP.EXE
Copy these files to tcpip\BIN\SNMPGRP.EXE
and tcpip\BIN\SNMPTRAP.EXE
This step is optional. These 2 executables have not really changed
but since they do use the same ISODEDLL.DLL, you may want to have
them in sync. and up to the latest compiled/linked level.
5. REBOOT your machine to make sure that the
new ISODEDLL.DLL is picked up.
The new SNMP.EXE has a fix for the display of octet strings.
The old SNMP.EXE (as shipped with TCP/IP 1.2 for OS/2 has a set of
hardcoded variables (objectIDs) that it considers OctetStrings.
All others are handled as DisplayStrings.
The new SNMP.EXE (as part of this package) uses the definition in the
tcpip\ETC\MIB2TBL. If a variable is defined as STRING it is displayed
in hexadecimal form. If a variable is defined as DISPLAY it is
displayed as a printable ASCII string.
The new SNMP.EXE also accepts an optional first argument of -d
This flag will trace (display) outgoing and incoming SNMP PDUs.
Example:
SNMP -d get hostname community_name sysDescr
