Cornerstone ImageAccel Scale-to-Gray Enhancement to
ImagePlus Workstation Program/2 1.2.1. (IWPM/2)
IBM Bethesda, October 1994
The Cornerstone ImageAccel is a card that provides hardware assisted
scale-to-gray capability for displaying bilevel images. Scale-to-gray
improves the readability of monochrome images displayed.
The latest GA version of IWPM/2 has been enhanced to take advantage
of the ImageAccel card's scale-to-gray capability. Details of the
enhancement follow:
- If a workstation is not an ImageAccel workstation, then bilevel
images and text objects will be displayed bilevel, identical to
the way the code has been working. An ImageAccel workstation is
one that has an ImageAccel card installed along with a supported
display. Examples of supported displays include the IBM 9504,
the Cornerstone DualPage 120, the Cornerstone DualPage 150,
the Cornerstone Color 21/76, etc.
- If a workstation is an ImageAccel workstation, then bilevel
images and text objects will be displayed with scale-to-gray.
For a page that contains non-bilevel images, no scale-to-gray is
performed. For instance, a composite page that is composed of a
bilevel image and a color JPEG image will not be rendered using
scale-to-gray, even though it contains a bilevel image.
- When a page is displayed using scale-to-gray, all current IWPM/2
operations are still valid. For instance, one can add and save an
annotation, add and save a highlight, create a mask, create and
remove a temporary highlight, rotate the page, zoom the page,
display the page in reverse video and scroll to view parts of the
page that are outside the client rectangle.
Installation Considerations
In order to take advantage of the Cornerstone ImageAccel
Scale-to-Gray support added to IWPM/2, you must
1. Install the appropriate ImageAccel card and display;
2. Install the OS/2 device drivers for ImageAccel;
3. Install IWPM/2 1.2.1 with fixes dated October 1, 1994 or later.
Type EVNLEVEL from an OS/2 prompt to determine your version and
fix level.
Restrictions and Problem Determination
- With scale-to-gray, the memory requirement of IWPM/2 is increased
by about 20%. After some extensive continuous operation the swapper
file might be near the hard drive limit, causing OS/2 to shut down
IWPM/2. To prevent this abnormal shutdown, add "COMMIT" to the
MEMMAN statement in your CONFIG.SYS file. For more information, see
the readme.txt file in your IWPM/2 subdirectory. Search for "B15"
(The second occurrence).

*** FIX PROBLEM DESCRIPTIONS ***
************************************************************************
The following are descriptions of the fixes included in this package to
support Cornerstone ImageAccel Scale-to-Gray.
1) PROBLEM REFERENCE: FIX DATE: 94/10/13
The IWPM/2 overview window used when zooming does not work as expected.
When the customer clicks the mouse in the overview window (400% zoom)
the area outlined in the overview window is not the same as the area
displayed on the full size image window. This problem was caused by
incorrectly estimating the scaling factor.
