  9.    This package contains the cumulative fixes for the ImagePlus
  10.    Workstation Program/2 (IWPM/2) 1.2.1. This package is distributable
  11.    to any customer who has an IWPM/2 1.2.1 license.
  12.  
  13.    This package also contains Cornerstone ImageAccel Scale-to-Gray
  14.    support for IWPM/2. The Cornerstone ImageAccel is a card that
  15.    provides hardware assisted scale-to-gray capability for displaying
  16.    bilevel images. Scale-to-gray improves the readability of monochrome
  17.    images displayed. Refer to the CORNER.TXT file for additional
  18.    information.

  30.     IWPM/2 if it is running and backup to diskette the existing versions
  31.     of the following files. (These files are in the directory where
  32.     IWPM/2 is installed):

  78. 2b. If you are using scanner device drivers supplied by Eastman Kodak
  79.     Company (tm), you must back up the files EXYKO.DLL and EXYKO.SYS,
  80.     and restore them after unpacking EVN121B.ZIP.
  81.  
  82. 3.  Copy the EVN121.ZIP and EVN121B.ZIP files to the directory where
  83.     IWPM/2 is installed.  Use PKUNZIP2 to unzip these files.  This will
  84.     replace the files you backed up in step 2a. above.  (If you wish to
  85.     test the unzipping, copy the EVN121.ZIP and EVN121B.ZIP files to
  86.     a test directory and unzip them.  Then perform a DIR on that test
  87.     directory and compare the results to the list above to ensure all
  88.     files are present.)

  90. 4.  If you are using scanner device drivers supplied by Eastman Kodak
  91.     Company (tm), restore the files EXYKO.DLL and EXYKO.SYS from the
  92.     location where they were backed up in step (2b) above.
  93.  
  94. 5.  Re-boot and restart the workstation.  Test the IWPM/2 fixes.
  95.  
  96. 6.  When you are confident that the IWPM/2 fixes are working the way you
  97.     desire, you can repeat step 3 for all appropriate workstations.

  100. ***                      FIX PROBLEM DESCRIPTIONS                    ***
  101. ************************************************************************
  102.  
  103. The following are descriptions of the fixes included in the modules
  104. available with this package:
  105.  
  106. 1) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/07/08  PMR: 0X140 B358     APAR: IR22992
  107.  
  108. The Document Verify function of IWPM/2 used during scanning operations
  109. was not working correctly.  Instead of waiting for the user to press
  110. Enter to accept a page, IWPM/2 would, under certain conditions, restart
  111. the scanner and continue to scan pages.
  112.  
  113. 2) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/08/04  PMR: 3X872 B483     APAR: IR22823
  114.  
  115. When modifying a document with MVS/ESA ImagePlus, IWPM/2 could
  116. corrupt the modify instructions, and end under OS/2 with the error:
  117.      SYS1943 TRAP 000D
  118.

  121. IWPM/2 was batch scanning with bar codes using the IWPM/2 Input
  122. Filter for interpretation of barcodes in software.
  123. The next to last and last documents scanned in a batch were
  124. being stored to the host with the same barcode value.
  125. This barcode value was placed in Scanner Data Field 3.
  126.

  129. IWPM/2 would display msgEVNA388D when attempting to scan with a
  130. Sharp JX-450 or Howtek Scanmaster scanner when running on 95xx
  131. series PS/2's, such as the 9595.
  132. The problem was caused by the latest GPIB.SYS device driver, and latest
  133. GPIB adapter card from National Instruments.
  134.  
  135. 5) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/08/04  PMR: 9X470 B278     APAR: IR23277

  137. IWPM/2 would display msgEVNI0250 during scanning, requiring
  138. user intervention.  The user would have to press the Scan pushbutton
  139. in the New scan dialog box to continue scanning.  This should be
  140. unnecessary when batch scanning with the Kodak 900D scanner.
  141.  
  142. 6) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/08/04  PMR: 2X272 B004     APAR: IR23288
  143.  
  144. In the IWPM/2 Scan Method, Keep Document Header could be set to
  145. No, and greyed out (unselectable).  This selection in
  146. the scan options file for scan method could cause incorrect
  147. scanner operation.  For example, when batch scanning
  148. single page documents, IWPM/2 could stop scanning after each page.
  149.

  152. When using IWPM/2 to perform host initiated batch scanning, the user
  153. was forced to click on the scan button in the New scan dialog box
  154. to continue scanning for the third document.
  155.

  158. When a user scans a new document, they complete the scan,
  159. press Cancel to remove the New scan dialog box, and select
  160. Documents from the action bar to save the scanned file, but
  161. the "Save" and "Save as" lines are greyed-out and cannot be
  162. selected.  If they select Documents a second time the Save
  163. functions are enabled again.
  164.  
  165. 9) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/08/12  PMR: 2X205 B246     APAR: IR23286
  166.  
  167. When scanning in duplex mode with the Bell & Howell
  168. 6338 Scanner attached through a Kofax card, IWPM/2 may treat
  169. the scanner feeder is empty when it is not.  The first side of
  170. a page is scanned, and the user is waiting to scan the second
  171. side when IWPM/2 issues msgEVNI388C ("The scanner's automatic
  172. document feeder is empty").  When IWPM/2 resumed scanning,
  173. it used the second side of the previous document as the first
  174. side of the next documents.
  175. No error messages are generated.  No error occurs when the
  176. users scan at a slower rate.  Th error occurs when users
  177. press scan and store in the New Scan dialog box at a faster
  178. rate.
  179.  
  180. 10) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/08/24  PMR: 95075 B033     APAR: IR23211
  181.  
  182. When performing duplex scanning with  IWPM/2 1.2.0 or 1.2.1,
  183. page 1 of 1 may be lost when another document has been scanned in.
  184. For example, the following steps would occur:
  185. - User starts scanning
  186. - The first document is scanned
  187. - The document is displayed in IWPM/2 as 'Page 1 of 1'
  188. - The Scan pushbutton is pressed
  189. - The IWPM/2 title bar displays 'Page 1 of 2'
  190. - msgEVNI3C05 appears: "Storing document."
  191. - msgEVNI0250 appears: "Document is now stored."
  192. - Several other pages are scanned
  193. - Then, IWPM/2 displays 'Page 2 of 2'
  194. - When this occurs, page 1 has been mistakenly discarded without
  195.   being stored.
  196. The Scan Overlap feature introduced in
  197. IWPM/2 1.2.0 created a timing dependency, resulting in a
  198. window through which scanned pages could be discarded.
  199.  
  200. 11) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/09/01  PMR: 5X518 B322     APAR: IR23323
  201.  
  202. IWPM/2 was unable to print a PTOCA (coded data) object with an
  203. IOCA (form) overlay name longer than 8 characters.
  204. IWPM/2 would issue msgEVNA4228.
  205.

  207.  
  208. When the IWPM/2 working set was cleared by the ImagePlus host issuing
  209. the Reset command, the clear could take to long to complete.
  210.

  212.  
  213. During scanning, if the image scanned was smaller than the IWPM/2
  214. display window, the user would see the page flicker several times
  215. as IWPM/2 redrew the image redundantly.
  216.

  219. When documents are sent from the host, and then stored back to
  220. the host by IWPM/2, IWPM/2 would end with a TRAP, and host
  221. communications would be lost as IWPM/2 was trying to store
  222. the 11th document.  IWPM/2 could be closed, or ended by OS/2
  223. with a SYSxxxx error message.
  224.  
  225. 15) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/09/07  PMR: 5062X B044     APAR: IR23400
  226.  
  227. When a document is saved on the workstation, the user expects
  228. to see msgEVNI0263 informing them that the document has
  229. been saved.  This message was not displayed with IWPM/2 1.2.1.
  230.

  233. When using the REUI_MAGNIFYC Application Programming Interface
  234. of IWPM/2 1.2.1 to perform page magnification from another application,
  235. the pages would display improperly and eventually IWPM/2 would hang.
  236.

  239. The verify page function of IWPM/2 scanning may function incorrectly,
  240. and display all pages, even though the user had chosen only to view
  241. every nth page.
  242.

  244.  
  245. While the operator is scanning pages for insertion into a document
  246. to be modified, if all of the scanned pages are discarded, and then
  247. rescanned, IWPM/2 would display msgEVNA6802, indicating that the
  248. modify operation had failed.  This would occur when the user pressed
  249. the Store pushbutton.
  250.  
  251. 19) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/10/08  PMR: 5594X B044     APAR: IR23780
  252.  
  253. When using IWPM/2 in dual-display mode, and displaying PTOCA (coded
  254. data) pages on the 8508 or 8506 display, the SWAPPER.DAT file used
  255. by OS/2 to allocate virtual memory would grow excessively after many
  256. PTOCA pages were displayed.  For example, displaying 10 different
  257. PTOCA pages could cause the SWAPPER.DAT file to grow by 1 Megabyte.
  258.  
  259. 20) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/10/08  PMR: 5X055 OP1L2    APAR: IR23864

  261. When using IWPM/2 with multiple 5250 emulator sessions defined,
  262. and AS/400 ImagePlus is using the Return_Focus parameter of IWPM/2,
  263. IWPM/2 could return focus to a 5250 session other than the one running
  264. AS/400 ImagePlus.  With the change for this APAR installed, an
  265. environment variable can be defined in the CONFIG.SYS to indicate
  266. a target 5250 session for IWPM/2 to return focus to.
  267. The user must add the following line to the CONFIG.SYS file:
  268.  
  269.       SET EVN_EMULATOR=(PLU1,ID1),(PLU2,ID2),...(PLUN,IDN)
  270.  
  271. where PLU1,PLU2,..,PLUN are the PLU alias's of hosts as defined
  272. by the IWPM/2 configuration program (EVNCONF.EXE).
  273. Normally, the user will only need to specify one definition.
  274. For example:
  275.  
  276.       SET EVN_EMULATOR=(5250PLU,A)
  277.  
  278. ...if the 5250 window for AS/400 ImagePlus was session 'A'.
  279. If the user is using Communications Manager/2,
  280. this variable will allow IWPM/2 to correctly identify the
  281. Presentation Manager window of the session.
  282. If the user is using earlier versions (Communications
  283. Manager EE or ES), this variable will allow IWPM/2 to identify
  284. the Presentation Manager window handle of the session
  285. ONLY if there is no other Presentation Manager window
  286. with the exact same size and position of the specified emulator
  287. session.
  288. NOTE: the user must always use the session specified by the
  289. environment variable to sign on to AS/400 ImagePlus,
  290. (or change the environment variable and reboot).
  291.  
  292. 21) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/10/08  PMR: none           APAR: IR23857
  293.  
  294. When scanning with IWPM/2 using IPFO to create a Machine-Generated
  295. data stream (MGDS), no MGDS data would be sent to IWPM/2's host
  296. in some cases.  For example, when the document delimiter chosen
  297. for scanning was "number of pages", and the user pressed the
  298. "End batch" push button, no MGDS data would be sent to the host.
  299. IPFO would issue a message relating to "Unreadable Characters".
  300.  
  301. 22) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/10/08  PMR: none           APAR: IR23923
  302.  
  303. When a problem condition arises that should cause IWPM/2 to issue
  304. msgEVNA7FF4, this message is not displayed in a message box
  305. to the user.  The message can be displayed only by
  306. selecting Diagnostics then displaying the IWPM/2 history buffer.
  307. A situation where the message would occur would be when the
  308. user attempts to display a document from AS/400 ImagePlus,
  309. but the partner LU is incorrect in Communications Manager,
  310. or the host names entries in the IWPM/2 configuration are incorrect.
  311. In this example, the document would not be displayed, but no
  312. explanation of why the display failed would be given to the user
  313. by IWPM/2.
  314.  
  315. 23) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/10/08  PMR: 4X085 B004     APAR: IR23924
  316.  
  317. Using IWPM/2 1.2.1 with AS/400 ImagePlus, and performing batch
  318. scanning, the user had the IWPM/2 Display Time set to 4 seconds
  319. to verify the document.  When the user is dissatisfied with the
  320. document, and attempts to stop scanning by pressing the Cancel
  321. or Stop pushbuttons in IWPM/2's New scan window, IWPM/2 would
  322. not stop scanning.  The Scan Method was Host initiated
  323. batch; verify level=page, verify interval=1.
  324.  
  325. 24) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/10/08  PMR: 5X066 B358     APAR: IR23938
  326.  
  327. When viewing images with the Overview box displayed, if an image
  328. window is closed with the Overview box displayed, IWPM/2 would
  329. be ended with OS/2, and the error message SYS3175 displayed.
  330.  
  331. 25) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/10/27  PMR: 1X464 B358     APAR: IR23396
  332.  
  333. IWPM/2 now has the following abilities to remap fonts as required
  334. in specific customer situations:
  335.  
  336.  - The ability to substitute 12.5 for 12 pitch fonts through an
  337.    environment variable placed in the CONFIG.SYS:
  338.  
  339.         SET EVN_FONT_12_PITCH_REMAP=YES
  340.  
  341.    This environment variable should be used only by customers who
  342.    have documents with 12 pitch fonts created with AS/400
  343.    ImagePlus 2.3, but began working with forms and 12.5
  344.    pitch fonts with AS/400 ImagePlus 2.2 or earlier.
  345.  
  346.  - The ability to remap a 24 point Helvetica font to a smaller
  347.    font through an environment variable placed in the CONFIG.SYS:
  348.  
  349.         SET EVN_FONT_HELV_24_PT_REMAP=YES
  350.  
  351.    This environment variable should be used only by customers who
  352.    created documents with 24 point Helvetica, using IWPM/2 1.1,
  353.    before 24 point Helvetica was officially supported by IWPM/2.
  354.  
  355.  - The ability to control the degree of tolerance IWPM/2 will apply
  356.    when selecting a font through OS/2, specifically regarding
  357.    whether the font chosen is bitmap or vector.  This
  358.    environment variable must be placed in the CONFIG.SYS:
  359.  
  360.         SET EVN_FONT_TOLERANCE=n
  361.  
  362.    Where n is 0, or a value from 2 to 9.  9 is minimal
  363.    tolerance (the font returned from OS/2 will be an accurate match,
  364.    and likely a vector font), and 2 is maximum tolerance (the font
  365.    returned from OS/2 will likely be a bitmap font).  If 0 is selected,
  366.    a vector font is used, if available.
  367.    The default is 3 (large chance of getting a bitmap font).
  368.    Bitmap fonts are faster than vector fonts.  Vector fonts tend
  369.    to be closer in size to the font requested in the PTOCA document,
  370.    and may be more readable for that reason.
  371.  
  372. The workstation must be rebooted to activate these environment
  373. variables.
  374.  
  375. 26) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/11/04  PMR: 5239X B640     APAR: IR24047
  376.  
  377. The user would start IWPM/2, making sure that in the
  378. Setup menu, the Save window positions option is selected.
  379. The user would then minimize IWPM/2 by clicking on the arrow on
  380. the top right of the main window.  This turns IWPM/2 into in an icon.
  381. On the OS/2 Desktop folder, the user would save the Presentation
  382. Manager configuration and then stop OS/2.
  383. After OS/2 has restarted, IWPM/2 would be restarted outside the
  384. screen.  The user could only get to IWPM/2 by
  385. reorganizing the desktop, using the 'juxtaposition' option of
  386. OS/2, to get the IWPM/2 window back on the screen.
  387.  
  388. This error has only been reported with French versions of OS/2
  389. and IWPM/2.  It was caused by an IWPM/2 error in recording
  390. Presentation Manager coordinates.  The error would only be
  391. exposed in translated (non-U.S. English) versions of IWPM/2.
  392.  
  393. 27) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/11/17  PMR: 6X121 B246     APAR: IR24265
  394.  
  395. IWPM/2 would hang while performing a host-initiated print
  396. (AS/400 ImagePlus Demand Print).  The IWPM/2 communications
  397. component (EVNC.DLL) could, in such situations, slowly deplete
  398. the Presentation Manager heap.  This can eventually lead to hangs.
  399. The problem could occur for customers that have AS/400 ImagePlus
  400. as one of the selected hosts in their IWPM/2 configuration (EVNCFG.DAT)
  401. and that receive the Obtain_Focus parameter on commands from a host.
  402. Note that this heap depletion does not cause the OS/2 SWAPPER.DAT
  403. file to grow.  The memory depleted in the heap is a small amount of
  404. memory, but from a limited supply.
  405.  
  406. 28) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/12/16  PMR: 7X507 B469     APAR: IR24457
  407.  
  408. The user was scanning with the IBM 2456 scanner, IWPM/2 and AS/400 ImagePlus,
  409. and IWPM/2 had two sets of scanner options defined, one using the
  410. 2456 automatic document feeder, and the other using the 2456 flatbed.
  411. AS/400 ImagePlus can cause IWPM/2 to switch between the two scanner
  412. options files.  When AS/400 ImagePlus tells IWPM/2 to switch from
  413. the feeder to flatbed mode, IWPM/2 would ignore the change in scanner
  414. mode, and continue to attempt to use the 2456's automatic document
  415. feeder.
  416.  
  417. 29) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/12/16  PMR: 0X388 B49R     APAR: IR23921
  418.  
  419. Scanning with IWPM/2, the Kodak 900 scanner, and MVS ImagePlus, the
  420. user would experience scanner problems that could result in documents
  421. not being stored to MVS, and messages indicating that host communications
  422. had been lost.  For example, msgEVNA7A00 ("APPC reported a possible
  423. hardware, cable, or configuration problem.  Contact your support
  424. personnel.").  Before receiving message EVNA7A00, the user would see
  425. msgEVNA388D (unrecoverable scanner error), msgEVNI3C0A, and msgEVNA7A00.
  426. The msgEVNA388D has its origin in the Kodak scanner, and cannot be
  427. prevented in IWPM/2.  The source of the IWPM/2 defect is that IWPM/2
  428. would abnormally end communications with MVS, and not store the
  429. last document.  With the service for this APAR applied, when IWPM/2
  430. encounters an unrecoverable scanner error (msgENVA388D), it will store
  431. all documents that were completely received from the scanner.  The
  432. user must then determine which documents were successfully stored,
  433. and begin rescanning with the first document not stored.
  434.  
  435. 30) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/12/16  PMR: 3X069 B370     APAR: IR24308
  436.  
  437. IWPM/2's use of checkpoint files (*.CKP) while processing host-initiated
  438. print requests could result in a low disk space condition on an
  439. OS/2 workstation.  Limited disk space availability on OS/2
  440. workstations can result in a swapper full message or OS/2 terminating
  441. IWPM/2 (PJ06311).  AS/400 ImagePlus sends all documents to be printed
  442. in large batches without dividing up the batches in segments.  This can
  443. result the accumulation of many printer checkpoint files in the IWPM/2
  444. directory.  With the following environment variable defined,
  445. the reception of files from the host is paced:
  446.  
  447.      SET EVN_WAF_PRINTCMD_PACING=YES
  448.  
  449. This service results in creating these checkpoint files more
  450. slowly, but to properly address this problem, the user should, in addition
  451. to applying the service for this APAR, do these two things:
  452.  
  453. 1. Provide as much disk space as possible for the OS/2 SWAPPER.DAT
  454.    drive, installing a larger hard disk, if necessary.
  455.  
  456. 2. Increase the Printer queue minimum reserve storage parameter
  457.    using the IWPM/2 configuration program (EVNCONF.EXE)
  458.    to at least 6000K to provide more space for the OS/2 SWAPPER.DAT
  459.    file.  From the configuration program, select
  460.    Functions/Printing/Printer queue../Minimum Reserved Storage to
  461.    change this parameter.
  462.  
  463. 31) PROBLEM REFERENCE:   FIX DATE: 93/12/16  PMR: 6X006 B379     APAR: IR24164
  464.  
  465. Most documents printed with IWPM/2 have 200 pels per inch.  IWPM/2
  466. can print images directly to the 4019 printer using 200 pels per inch.
  467. With the 4029 driver, the printer could perform a resolution modification
  468. to print the image at a different resolution, resulting in a loss of
  469. image quality.  With the service for this APAR applied, IWPM/2 prints

  483. case of this APAR, 240 was used in the PGD (Page Descriptor).

  494. be reprinted.  IWPM/2 was not using the NEWFRAME command for each page.
  495. Instead, the printer device context was opened once, and the entire
  496. print job was sent. IWPM/2 will now use a NEWFRAME command for each
  497. page.  IWPM/2 will do this for each PrintImageData that followed
  498. a Print Eject.

  514. The exact value is determined by the Communication_Buffer_Size when
  515. IWPM/2 is initialized by a controlling application.

  517. If a document had a size in bytes that exactly matched a multiple
  518. of Communication_Buff_Size (for example, 16384 bytes, 32K, 48K, 64K,
  519. and so on), instead of closing the file, IWPM/2 would write the next
  520. document scanned to the same file. So, two complete documents would
  521. be stored to the same PC file, in AS/400 Shared Folders, or
  522. elsewhere as determined by the controlling application (the problem
  523. would not occur with MVS/ESA ImagePlus and IODM).

  526. be two complete document structures (each delimited by MO:DCA
  527. BDT/EDT tags).  When this file was displayed, the first document
  528. would display, the second would not, and IWPM/2 would issue message
