  22.   BEFORE INSTALLATION
  23.   -------------------
  24.
  25.   1. Attaching Extended Attributes
  26.
  27.      The Extended Attribute file (.EA) for the driver must be attached
  28.      to the actual driver file (.DRV) so installation of the driver
  29.      will succeed.  This is done by using the EAUTIL.EXE program that
  30.      is part of OS/2.
  31.
  32.      -> Use the command file provided to do this for you.
  33.         (examples: EPSON.CMD    for the Epson printer driver EPSON.DRV
  34.                    LASERJET.CMD for the Laserjet driver LASERJET.DRV
  35.                    PSCRIPT.CMD  for the PostScript driver PSCRIPT.DRV
  36.                    SMGXPJET.CMD for the PaintJet driver SMGXPJET.DRV
  37.                    IBMNULL.CMD  for the IBM Null driver IBMNULL.DRV
  38.                    IBM4019.CMD  for the IBM 4019 driver IBM4019.DRV
  39.                    IBM42XX.CMD  for the IBM 42XX driver IBM42XX.DRV
  40.                    IBM52XX.CMD  for the IBM 52XX driver IBM45XX.DRV
  41.                    IBM52012.CMD for the IBM 52012 driver IBM52012.DRV
  42.                    PLOTTERS.CMD for the IBM Plotter driver PLOTTERS.DRV)
  43.
  44.      The command file must be run from the same directory where all
  45.      the driver files were unzipped to.
  46.
  47.      Once this is done successfully, you may proceed with normal
  48.      printer driver installation if you are not replacing an older
  49.      version of the same driver.  If you are see step #2 below.
  50.
  51.      The installation of an OS/2 Printer Driver is documented in
  52.      OS/2 2.0's online Master Help Index under the topic 'installing'
  53.      and the subtopic 'OS/2 printer drivers'.
  54.
  55.      The installation of an OS/2 Printer Object is documented in
  56.      OS/2 2.0's online Master Help Index under the topic 'Creating'
  57.      and subtopic 'Printer Object'.
  58.
  59.   2. Replacing existing drivers
  60.
  61.      If you are replacing an existing driver with the same driver there
  62.      are a few things that need to be done before installation.
  63.
  64.      a) "Hold" every printer object (queue) that has the driver you are
  65.         replacing installed as the "Default printer Driver".
  66.
  67.         "Holding" a printer object (queue) is accomplished by:
  68.         i.   Right mouse button on the printer object (queue),
  69.              a menu should appear.
  70.         ii.  Left mouse button on the menu item "Change status",
  71.              a sub-menu should appear.
  72.         iii. Left mouse button on the sub-menu item "Hold"
  73.              A check mark should appear next to the "Hold" sub-menu item
  74.              on subsequent accesses of this sub-menu.
  75.
  76.         "Default printer driver" for a print object (queue) is found by:
  77.         i.   Right mouse button on the printer object (queue),
  78.              a menu should appear.
  79.         ii.  Left mouse button on the arrow to the left of menu item
  80.              "Open", a sub menu should appear.
  81.         iii. Left mouse button on the sub-menu item "Settings",
  82.              a notebook should appear.
  83.         iv.  Left mouse button on the notebook tab labelled "Printer driver",
  84.              the notebook page should change.
  85.         v.   You should see a window on this page labelled
  86.              "Default printer driver" where all printer drivers used
  87.              by this queue are shown.
  88.
  89.      b) Shut down all programs that use any printer object (queue)
  90.         for printing.  Also, remember to remove any programs
  91.         that might automatically start upon booting from the
  92.         "startup" folder or startup.cmd file or other command files.
  93.         This will ensure these programs won't load the printer driver
  94.         you are trying to replace, causing installation of the new
  95.         version of the driver to fail.
  96.
  97.      d) Shut down your computer to save any changes.
  98.
  99.      c) Reboot your computer.  Your system should come up fresh
  100.         with no jobs printing or programs running.
  101.
  102.      d) Directly following this reboot, install the new version
  103.         of the printer driver from the directory you unzipped it to.
  104.
  105.         The installation of an OS/2 Printer Driver is documented in
  106.         OS/2 2.0's online Master Help Index under the topic 'installing'
  107.         and the subtopic 'OS/2 printer drivers'.
