  1.                 WORKAROUND FOR INSTALLING DRIVERS
  2.  
  3. Follow the steps below to place a copy of the updated LZEXPAND.DLL
  4. (which is included here as LZEXPAND.NEW) on your hard drive.  This
  5. will allow you to install WIN-OS/2 drivers (printers, sound, drivers,
  6. international, etc) after applying the Service Pack on a system
  7. running OS/2 2.1 blue label diskettes.
  8.  
  9. The instructions assume that the new file provided with this
  10. workaround (LZEXPAND.NEW) is on a diskette in the A: drive.  The
  11. instructions also assume that WIN-OS2 is installed on the same
  12. drive as OS/2.  If your system is configured differently, please
  13. make sure you the use the appropriate drive references for your
  14. system.

  18. Follow these steps to place a copy of the updated LZEXPAND.DLL
  19. onto your hard drive:
  20.  
  21.  1.  Close all WIN-OS2 sessions
  22.  
  23.  2.  Open an OS/2 Fullscreen session
  24.  
  25.  3.  Change to the WINOS2\SYSTEM directory by typing:
  26.           CD \OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM  <ENTER>
  27.  
  28.  4.  Make a copy of LZEXPAND.DLL by typing:
  29.           COPY LZEXPAND.DLL LZEXPAND.ORG  <ENTER>
  30.  
  31.  4 1/2 - Sysop work-around - ie this is not supported, but it is reported to work
  32.  
  33.      Make a copy of UNIDRV.DLL by typing
  34.           COPY UNIDRV.DLL UNIDRV.ORG <ENTER>
  35.           ERASE UNIDRV.DLL.  The install will make a new one.
  36.  
  37.  5.  Copy LZEXPAND.NEW from the diskette to the hard drive by
  38.      typing:
  39.           COPY A:\LZEXPAND.NEW  <ENTER>
  40.  
  41.  6.  Copy  LZEXPAND.NEW to LZEXPAND.DLL by typing:
  42.           COPY LZEXPAND.NEW LZEXPAND.DLL <ENTER>

  44.  7.  Exit the OS/2 Fullscreen session, by typing:
  45.           EXIT  <ENTER>

  50. WIN-OS2 might prompt for the wrong printer driver diskette (this
  51. is a known problem and is already being addressed).  In order to
  52. complete a printer installation, continue to insert the three
  53. new printer driver diskettes until WIN-OS2 no longer prompts for
  54. any more diskettes.

  56. If you are updating a driver, it is best to physically delete the
  57. current driver from your hard drive before installing the new one.
  58. If you do not know the driver name, then make sure you choose "New"
  59. when asked if you want to replace the existing driver.
  60.  
  61. Some applications programs might require the old LZEXPAND file.
  62. You will need to copy LZEXPAND.ORG to LZEXPAND.DLL.

  64.         A.  Follow steps 1 through 3 above.  Then type:
  65.               COPY LZEXPAND.ORG LZEXPAND.DLL  <ENTER>
  66.  
  67.         B.  Switch back to your desktop(CTL+ESC) and complete
  68.             the process you were trying to run.  You might have
  69.             to close WINOS2 and restart it before you can complete
  70.             your task. When it is done, switch back to your OS/2
  71.             Fullscreen session.

  73.         C.  Copy LZEXPAND.NEW back to LZEXPAND.DLL by typing:
  74.               COPY LZEXPAND.NEW LZEXPAND.DLL <ENTER>

  76.         D.  Exit the OS/2 Fullscreen session by typing:
  77.               EXIT  <ENTER>
