  2. The following section replaces pages 77 and 78 of the
  3. OS/2 2.1 Installation Guide.
  4. Corrections are indicated by a | to the left of the text.

  6. COPYING THE RESPONSE FILE TO DISKETTE
  7. _____________________________________
  8.  
  9.    The following is a list of the steps you would
  10.    perform to modify a response file and then
  11.    place the response file on a copy of Diskette
  12.    1.  To copy the response file onto a diskette,
  13.    you must make some modifications to Diskette 1.
  14.    These modifications make room on the diskette
  15.    for the response file.
  16.  
  17.    1.  Make a copy of Diskette 1.  You will modify
  18.        the copy.
  19.  
  20.    2.  Make extra room on the copy of Diskette 1
  21.        by deleting files that will not be needed
  22.        in a response file installation:
  23.  
  24.        a.  Delete the MOUSE.SYS file from the copy
  25.            of Diskette 1.
  26.  
  27.        b.  Delete the SYSINST2.EXE file from the
  28.            copy of Diskette 1.
  29.  
  30. |     c.  Delete the BUNDLE file from the copy of
  31. |         Diskette 1.
  32.  
  33.        d.  If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a
  34.            Micro Channel(*) computer, delete the
  35.            following file from your copy of
  36.            Diskette 1:

  38.                IBM1*.ADD
  39.  
  40.        e.  If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a
  41.            non-Micro Channel computer, delete the
  42.            following files from your copy of
  43.            Diskette 1:
  44.  
  45.                IBM2*.ADD
  46.                *02.SYS
  47.  
  48.        f.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file that exists on
  49.            the copy of Diskette 1.

  51.            1)  Change the SET OS2_SHELL statement
  52.                from:

  54.                       set os2_shell=sysinst2.exe
  55.  
  56.                to:
  57.  
  58.                       set os2_shell=rspinst.exe a:\os2se20.rsp
  59.  
  60.            2)  Delete the following statement:
  61.  
  62.                       device=\mouse.sys
  63.  
  64.            3)  If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a
  65.                Micro Channel computer, delete the
  66.                following statements from the
  67.                CONFIG.SYS file on your copy of
  68.                Diskette 1:
  69.  
  70.                    BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD
  71.                    BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD
  72.  
  73.            4)  If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a
  74.                non-Micro Channel computer, delete
  75.                the following statements from the
  76.                CONFIG.SYS file on your copy of
  77.                Diskette 1:
  78.  
  79.                    BASEDEV=IBM2FLPY.ADD
  80.                    BASEDEV=IBM2ADSK.ADD
  81.                    BASEDEV=IBM2SCSI.ADD
  82.  
  83.    3.  Make a copy of the SAMPLE.RSP file (located
  84.        in the OS2\INSTALL directory).
  85.  
  86.    4.  Use an editor (such as the System Editor)
  87.        to modify and save the file.  The file
  88.        contains comments that explain each of the
  89.        installation options.  Make sure you delete
  90.        the commented lines when you modify the
  91.        file.
  92.  
  93.    5.  Copy the modified response file to the copy
  94.        you made of Diskette 1.  Use the name
  95.        OS2SE20.RSP when you copy the file.
  96.  
  97.    6.  Copy the RSPINST.EXE file (located in the
  98.        OS2\INSTALL directory) to the copy of
  99.        Diskette 1.
  100.  
  101.    7.  Begin the installation of the workstation
  102.        by inserting the Installation Diskette and
  103.        restarting the system.
  104.  
  105.    8.  When prompted for Diskette 1, insert the
  106.        modified copy of Diskette 1, and press
  107.        Enter.
  108.  
  109.    From this point, the installation program will
  110.    prompt only for the insertion of diskettes.  No
  111.    other installation screens will appear.
  112.  
  113. |  Note:  When prompted to insert Diskette 1
  114. |  again, insert the original copy of Diskette 1.
  115.  
  116.    This procedure can be used to install the same
  117.    set of options on multiple workstations.  Using
  118.    a response file, you can make sure that a group
  119.    of workstations is set up with the same set of
  120.    options.

  124. In the install read_me on diskette 3, the following
  125. replaces the information beginning with
  126. the sentence "If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a non-
  127. Micro Channel (MCA) system," :
  128.  
  129. |  If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a non-Micro Channel (MCA)
  130. | computer, some CMOS settings might have to be adjusted:
  131.  
  132. |  1.Turn off ROM Shadowing (system and video).  OS/2
  133. | does not use shadow BIOS.
  134.  
  135. |  2.If you experience traps or your system stops processing
  136. | while you are installing OS/2,
  137. | turn your external processor cache to OFF
  138. | If this fixes the problem, contact the manufacturer of your
  139. | computer to have your system board repaired before turning your
  140. | external processor cache back on.
  141.  
  142. | 3. If you get a Trap 2 error,
  143. | turn the turbo/system speed of your computer to OFF or SLOW.
  144. | If this fixes the problem, contact the manufacturer of your
  145. | computer about possible memory problems (for example, mismatched
  146. | or bad memory modules or DRAM problems).
