********************************************************************************
DO NOT APPLY THIS FIX UNLESS YOU HAVE THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED BELOW!!
********************************************************************************
This fix is for APAR PJ08679 -
* Can not install OS/2 2.1 on a NEC Ultralight Versa laptop machine.
Updated Module: KBD01.SYS
This fix requires the OS/2 2.1 Installation Diskette # 1 to be updated with a
new KBD01.SYS file. Please follow the instructions below so that we can provide
service to your machine in the future.
To Install:
1.) Create a backup of your original OS/2 2.1 Installation Diskette # 1 by doing
a DISKCOPY.
2.) Copy the KBD01.SYS file from the fix diskette to the backed-up Installation
Diskette # 1.
3.) Install OS/2 2.1, using the backed-up Installation Diskette # 1.
4.) After OS/2 2.1 is installed, you must perform the following steps. In order
for us to be able to provide service to your machine in the future, we must
save the original OS/2 2.1 GA-level KBD01.SYS file on a separate diskette,
and save the "service log" file LOGU001.OS2 in \OS2\DLL.
1.) Start an OS/2 Full Screen session.
2.) Insert the original OS/2 2.1 Installation Diskette # 1 in drive A:
3.) At the command prompt, type "COPY A:\KBD01.SYS C:\OS2\DLL"
(where C: is your OS/2 partition. If you installed OS/2 in a different
partition, use that drive letter.)
4.) Insert a blank diskette in drive A:
5.) Type "MD A:\ARCHIVE"
6.) Type "MOVE C:\OS2\DLL\KBD01.SYS A:\ARCHIVE"
(where C: is your OS/2 partition. If you installed OS/2 in a different
partition, use that drive letter.)
7.) Print the following on a label and attach it to the diskette in drive A:
"ARCHIVE: KBD01.SYS 8679VOL"
Please save this diskette as it will be needed if future service is
required for the KBD01.SYS module.
8.) Insert the fix diskette in drive A:
9.) Type "UPDATE A: C:".
(where C: is your OS/2 partition. If you installed OS/2 in a different
partition, use that drive letter.) This will update the service log,
LOGU001.OS2, on your system. The service log is a requirement to be
able to apply fixes to your machine in the future.
